My senior cat took a major downturn on a Sunday. Dr. Kurty's office responded to my call right away and made an appointment for 8am the following Monday morning. The staff person was so kind and compassionate. Dr, Kurty arrived and was a lovely, warm, sympathetic vet. She was so gentle with my cat and allowed me to sit comfortably aside my cat. She sedated first. Dr. Kurty's gentle energy alllowed me to snuggle my cat. Her process is non-invasive and my cat left me in quiet, calm and peace. It took me a long time to write this review, if only because we have been grieving the dear loss of our 5 year old cat Reya, who declined from rambunctious and healthy to paralyzed and unmoving within two days. It was the most heartbreaking experience for us, made easier by Dr Kuty's warm and compassionate nature. Dr. Kuty was amazing in absolutely every way. We were desperate when we called, as we could tell our kitty was in great pain, and unfortunately we called so many folks who were already booked up, which would have unfairly prolonged our cat's suffering for days. We also couldn't bear to say goodbye to her at the vet's office (Reya just hated cars and vet offices), and we wanted her last moments to be peaceful. Dr. Kuty was able to make time for us, recognizing the severity of the case, and was incredibly empathic, warm, and very good at an incredibly difficult job. We never felt in any way rushed, and she was amazing at just holding space as my husband and I grieved. For those more procedurally concerned: she makes the paperwork simple and straightforward so that it is not the focus of the experience. Pricing is reasonable and again, the process is streamlined. She arranges the transport and cremation of the body, and informs the vets of their passing so that you don't have to go through the countless email reminders for a checkup for a pet you have lost. I know this kind of work can be rough (I work in mental healthcare), and therefore I again offer our profound thanks and gratitude for her continuing to do such needed work. Losing our almost 12 year old German Shepherd Jimbo was the most heartbreaking experience of my life. That handsome fellow you see in the picture is Skip. He left to be with his cat buddy Raven at the ripe old age of 15. The best, funniest, most loving and loyal Dog ever. He was a rescue dog from CarePets. He had the cutest gimpy front right paw and apparently hard to find a home for because of aggressive tendencies...but when he met the family it was love at first sight. The lady at the adoption fair marveled at how the normally aggressive Skip was letting us pet him and pick him up."He's adopted you," she said and told us his name came from the movie, "My Dog Skip" as he resembled the star...He was the rock when we went through a very difficult 2016, in which I was hospitalized with multiple surgeries. While in the hospital, my mother who was in my wife's care passed away after a long illness. My wife went through hell. Me gone. Mom passing. Teenage boys. But through it all there was Skip. Skip was her rock, her anchor, her open ear. He knew when to give her a nuzzle and make it all okay. So when the day came when Skip's suffering got to the point it was time to say goodbye. It took a long time and a lot of tears to realize we didn't want him to pass in an emergency situation or suffer a scary death. We knew we didn't want to take Skip out in the cold, just to take him to the animal hospital, so we contacted Maria at At Home At Rest. She immediately put me at ease, explained the entire process. Yes it Hurts. Loosing my service dog Yara was something that I dreaded for years. He was fourteen years old and worked for me for twelve years. When I knew that his time was coming I started interviewing visiting home vets that specialize in home euthanasia. I narrowed my long list down to two vets. The next step was to talk with the doctor to get my best feeling. It was so simple to choose Dr. Kuty. She sounded so kind and her staff was so gentile and understanding. When Dr. Kuty arrived she walked us through the process. She had us place Yara where we wanted him to end his life. We had all the time that we needed to say good buy and he was so peaceful in the end. Dr. Kuty gently set him on her stretcher and covered him with a blanket and left his head showing. Dr. Maria Kuty came to my home last week to euthanize my 14 year old dog due to severe health issues, blindness and deafness. She couldn't have been more sincere, caring or patient during the whole procedure. I got an appointment with just one day's notice. She arrived exactly when she had said that she would arrive. She didn't rush me and in fact she repeated to take my time and let her know when I was ready. When the time came, she gently gave my little girl a sedative and let it start to work then put in a small catheter and injected her. My baby was finally at peace and no longer suffering. The decision to put down our little girl was devastating. No one ever prepares you for how hard it's going to be or the emptiness you feel in your life or your family after your sweet baby is no longer here. After our little girl started having nerve issues (started with incontinence and led to issues with back leg mobility), we knew it would be time to say goodbye soon. More than anything, we wanted her to go happy, peacefully, and with some of her dignity. We wanted to have time to do some of her favorite things and say goodbye when she was ready and comfortable. Dr. Maria gave that to us. I scheduled the appointment a week and a half out, and for that time we loved on our baby like crazy. That morning we went to the park and played one last time and she had salmon and sausage for lunch. When Dr. Maria came, she loved on our little girl which made her feel calm. We got to sit and snuggle our little girl in her favorite spot in the sunshine. In fact, our sweet girl fell asleep BEFORE the sedative kicked in all the way. We got to stroke her and be with her and she snores contently. There was no fear or worry. She was so peaceful. Although we are devastated and miss her so much, these were the best possible circumstances to say goodbye. Dr. Maria was so caring and attentive to our needs and timeline. Saying goodbye to our fur babies is never easy. Our 16 year old Brodie has been with us since he was 8 weeks old. We were totally in love with him. I called Dr. Kuty, and I selected a date, a couple of weeks in advance (to prepare myself). Unfortunately, my dear Zen had shoulder cancer, and a wound broke through to the bone. I needed to have her euthanized right away. Dr. Kuty was not available, and I find another vet who did a wonderful job. In January 2019 we called Dr. Maria Kuty because our poor Keke boy was suffering from illness. We received a phone call back from Dr. Kuty the same day, and she said she can come the following day to peacefully put Keke to sleep. She thoroughlly explained to us how the euthanasia procedure would go,and ensured us Keke would not feel any pain or suffer during the process. She first put in an injection to put him unconscious, and she made sure by touching him that he was completely uncousious before giving him the final injection. She made us all at ease and Keke had a smooth transition to the rainbow bridge on his favorite spot in the living room on the couch. To take Keke to the car to have him transported for cremation,she put him in a wooden bed with a blanket,he looked so peaceful. We said goodbye to our dog Tristan on April 12th. He had a long happy life, but had become very sick and his health was failing.
