Just took the CCW class with Mike yesterday and I am very impressed! I learned more than I thought I would learn. Mike was able to keep the class entertaining with great jokes to keep us engaged and has an extensive wealth of information. The packet he gives everyone to take home has a ton of info in it and he does not just teach the minimum standards. He will run drills with you until you are ready to call it quits. Take Mike's class, but only if you want to learn while having Fun. The educational component was far beyond what I expected. His sense of humor keeps the class energy up. I'm new to guns, and I contacted several other places. The 'other places" treated me with almost a level of disgust and impatience. I was actually sent away from one place to "go shoot some" before asking them questions. Mike was the only person that made me feel comfortable and was willing to help me with making a decision on getting a gun. That was all before I signed up for his class (5 months later). There was a waitlist for CCW class at the indoor range that I go to. I'm a member at that range which means, they offer a complimentary CCW for members. Problem was, I had to wait a few months to get it. I didn't want to wait. Luckily there is "At The Ready". I am so happy that I found Mike on Yelp. My husband and I were very impressed. His lecture was very informative and was happy we had some written notes to take home with us. Best part of course, is the shooting test. Mike is very laid back and yet gives well deserved constructive criticism when needed. My only regret is that I didn't take his class years ago. Procrastination killed my desire to pursue my CCW earlier. But crazy times of 2020 thankfully reminded me how important our 2nd amendment right truly is! We went to Metro the very next day. 120 days to get the CCW permit! Simply put Mike's ATR is awesome. I recently re-certified with ATR and I'm exceptionally happy. My girlfriend and took the class together and Mike tailored each portion of the class to us individually. My girlfriend was a newbie and had never fired a gun before. I took the class with Mike in October and this review is long overdue. I was the only one in the CCW class that day and Mike was very accommodating when it came to scheduling. Mike certified me 5 years ago. He's such a great instructor. I could have gone anywhere to renew my CCW but I decided to go back to Mike. I really feel like I'm learning a lot when he's teaching. I've did my recert today and he easily taught me how to grip properly. He was able to explain and show me what I was doing wrong right away. We had some fun with drills, talked about a bunch about holsters, trauma kits, how to carry, and the laws in our state. I'm looking forward to training with him again!! Want to get your Nevada CCW ? Mr. Orr is the best instructor. He provides a very comprehensive class that is informative, interesting, highly educational while being fun at the same time. His humorous and personal accounts really add attention getting interest to the class materials. He provides insight into real life situations. We asked many questions about different scenarios and Mr. Orr opened our eyes with his thought provoking and patient answers. We went to the outdoor qualifying destination and Mr. Orr worked with each of us individually. He could not emphasize enough the practice of "safety". Took Mike's class for the CCW and learned a lot. He kept it interesting and didn't make it seem like one of those lecture types of classes. As for the shooting portion, it was really gusty out at the desert which put a bit of a damper. But we all through it and most importantly, passed. We stayed around for some more drills. Took Mike's CCW class and he was an awesome instructor! The class was extremely informative and Mike was thorough with the information and left plenty of opportunity for questions to be answered. The live fire qualification was easy but where the real benefit came was taking advantage of some extra drills he offered at the end of the class. Took the CCW class. Mike Orr does a great job at keeping everyone entertained while going over all facts. He's straight to the point when it matters and makes sure everyone understands what he's teaching throughout the duration. I found "at the ready" on yelp. My experience was great. Mike went above the required requirements both in class and at the range. Very professional and the knowledge will stay with you. I took his class a little over a year and a half ago. Will definitely be back when it's time to renew. Biggest thing that was great was I was by myself and he didn't require a min. amount of people before he would do the class. Everywhere else I called wanted nothing to do with me once they found out I was flying solo. I'm sure he will do big groups also. read more

Great instructor, very knowledgeable on firearm awareness and concealment. I was very pleased and the knowledge i received is well worth the price he was offering. He does not cover just the basics required by the state, rather he will explain many "what to do if" situations and how to use your firearm properly if the situation may ever occur. Me being disabled, Mike was able to accommodate to my needs and gave me a few pointers on how i should respond to the threat versus an able bodied person who may respond differently. I recently had the great pleasure to attend his Defensive Pistol Level 1 course, this past weekend. There were several reasons that I would very highly recommend his training program, without reservation. (1)We reviewed the Firearms Safety Rules initially and then revisited them often during the course, he made sure that we were always conducting our training from the greatest safety standpoint. (2) We worked at the pace and experience level compatible to my previous military firearms training (3) He layered the training, adding additional exercises to build upon the "Stress Inoculation" principles, as I became accustomed to the previous drills (4) Introduced Critical Decision making elements into the drills, which I definitely needed. As anyone can pull the trigger, it's knowing when and why (5) Included several Shoot/ No shoot into each drill (6) We spent time prior to and after each drill to discuss "Objectives/Lessons Learned" (7) A unique aspect of his training, was the amount of time spent discussing treatment of gunshot wounds and constructing a IFAK. (8) His knowledge and experience made the entire experience fun and interesting. I can't recommend this training course highly enough! I will definitely be attending his Defensive Shotgun and Rifle courses as soon as possible. You will not find a better defensive pistol course for the money in the Vegas Valley!! read more

I did my CCW class yesterday 4/7/18. Had a small group consisting of my mom, sister and wife. Mike was awesome. Helped everyone with just about everything you can think of, from stances to grip among other things. He made the class fun but made sure to make sure we all understood anything and everything he mentioned. We asked a lot of questions and he answered everything in a way everyone understood.
