The vegetable tempura was delicious, the individual pieces were very large. Without using a knife they were difficult to cut and manage. Still, very good. Plenty of parking and the service good. Ok we walked in and didn't recognize the place! For years we called it the blue door place bc of the revolving blue door which is no longer there. They changed the entire inside. The service was friendly but there was something off! It was just mid! I don't know about you but if you are going out to eat now a days and you end up spending $100 each time, it better be worth it. This place was just off! The sushi was good but the rolls were weird. Didn't have salmon in the raw side we ended up getting shrimp one which was good, not great. The crab raccoons were fried weird. Horrible experience, girlfriend found a bug in her soup after she ate half of it. Kindly informed our server and he just laughed it off and apologized. At this point our appetites are ruined. When I got the check I saw he only gave us a 15% discount. As a restaurant manager, this is unacceptable and the whole meal should have been compensated. Good sushi place for sure. They have hibachi also, but never had it. Gotten my kiddo the chicken hibachi meal before and my god the portions are huge and she gets to munch on it for multiple meals. So the value is for sure there. Their sushi is extremely good, may take a while some times, but the wait for it is worth it. Lots of options if you are picky or even if you just want specific types of sushi. Have not tried other things on menu yet but will in the future. The ambiance is good, they have projections on the walls and seats are open so if you come in a group you all sit at a long table they make with smaller tables. Hibachi section is normal with the grill being the center and made to be a show. Service is good, but slow on busy days but that is normal, just be patient and everything comes as you ask for it. Ordered takeout online. Get there and they say it's not ready so I wait at the bar. After 10 minutes, I ask a different hostess if my order was ready but she said no still. Wait another 10 minutes and ask again, and she looks and it's been ready the whole time. I waited 20 minutes for nothing. I come here once every week with my wife. My parents also go here once a week. The food is great and authentic in my opinion. It tastes fresh and healthy as well. The service is great of course and the Tuesday have price sushi is even greater. Disclaimer: special days that land on a Tuesday such as new years and Christmas will not be half price sushi. That did seem a little unfair in my opinion. I went to get an order for my entire family only to find out when I arrived that it was not half price on New Year's Eve even though it was Tuesday. That felt like a dirty move to be completely honest and that's why I'll be leaving a four star review instead of five. You go to get half price sushi every Tuesday and it doesn't change, so when you go on new years that falls on a Tuesday, you expect half price sushi. The entire family gives me their order and I go to get it only to find out the tab is double what I or any of my family was expecting. We have been going there about once a week. Very quiet atmosphere, sushi and cooked food is good. The servers do a good job but don't expect more. They don't talk to you beside if it's related to your meal. And nobody recognizes you, you are like a new customer every-time. I always ask for extra wasabi, i go heavy with it on my sushi and they bring me more. Well last week we had to do take out. I asked if I could have a little extra wasabi and she told me wasabi was in the bag. I then told her i like more than most people and she furiously grabbed a small container while giving one of these looks and the sushi chef literally threw a small ball of wasabi from a foot away into the cup (Nice throw BTW). We ordered a few sushi rolls only to find a PAPER TOWEL wrapped up in one of our rolls. One corner of the towel was burned. When my husband called, we provided photos and the lady didn't believe us. They refused to give us a refund. We have contacted Cherokee Health Dept as well. After doing some research I've located the health score from 9/2021 which was a 55. I wish I was kidding when I tell this story. We have ordered take out from Atami many times and it did not disappoint. We decided to venture into the restaurant for Hibachi one night with our 2 year old son and some friends. We should've turned around when we walked in and it was empty...but we decided to give it a try. The chef came out to start cooking and was doing his little show of juggling his spatulas...and he drops a spatula on the ground. Picks it back up and keeps going and then the spatula flies out of the chef's hand and hits me in the chest. Again...he picks it back up and then proceeds to cook our meal with the same spatula. While doing the hibachi cooking he squirted my son with water once...my son said no and started crying. Then he did it again. Making my son cry harder. I wish I could say that the food quality made up for the lack of service but NOPE. Food tasted terrible. Horrible experience. Will not be back. Do not recommend. read more

Not since Abraham Lincoln turned to his wife Mary and said, " Come on honey, let's go see a show" has there been such a misguided decision in choosing to skip my prime rib roast leftovers and opt for dinner at Atami Grill. I should have stayed home and averted the disaster that was to be. Taking young kids out for dinner is always a crap-shoot as one never knows which child will implode first, but Atami did me no favors. No kids meals were brought out until 40minutes in, the waiter eventually realized the kitchen staff was never going to make them - as the order was lost somewhere. I never judge anyone on a Christmas day service but Iam going to. Our hapless server was Ineffectual and would disappear for long periods only to reappear empty handed having forgotten what we asked him to go get. A manager, I presume, finally came to our table to sort out the mess, as our children slowly withered away, and we deduced the waiter probably forgot directions to where our table was. The manager seemed to be clear enough in her solution - two comped meals ASAP to go. Well ASAP was like 20minutes, and when the bill came, she charged us $40 for the two adult meals. She refused to then comp those meals. Very shady. Suffice to say we will not be returning. read more
