So this place gets a lot of hype in Cherokee Co. Been wanting to try it for a while and the last time we were over this way it wasn't open. Very nice inside and the place was packed as we were dining. Great service although our server was a little timid and didn't speak very loudly. Very attentive though. We ordered a couple of rolls, the calamari app. and a large ginger salad. The salad was fantastic although it was just mixed greens, but the dressing was probably the best ginger dressing I've ever had. The calamari was way over cooked and wasn't good at all. No way that wasn't pre-breaded and frozen. Skip that. Our rolls were just ok. The fried shrimp for some reason tasted stale so we wondered if it was cooked to order and the roll itself just had too much sauce. The other roll was Pretty good but not memorable. All in all Yoon was just ok for us. Plenty of other menu items to try and we would be back if we were back in the area for something else. My new son-in-law and I were able to enjoy three sushi items from the menu along with great service by Juan. it is a very small venue, so there was a line out the door in no time. The ceilings are nice and tall, and it is very airy. They do have a sushi bar where you can watch the chefs create your dish, but we got a nice little table where we could talk and enjoy a meal, although the next table was literally an arms length away... I guess you could say I'm a Yoon fan by marriage. My husband is a fanatic and it may have been the first restaurant we ever went to together. (Fun side story: he had been going there for awhile by himself and occasionally with his daughter. So we had been in for dinner a few weeks after meeting and as we were leaving, one of the owners saw him. She chatted with him as we were heading out the door and then realized he was with me and she goes "Oh! You brought your girlfriend!" I did not pay her to say this, btw... He brushed it off in his sweet way, but it seems kind of prophetic.) ANYWAY!!! My husband has a very particular order of sushi & sashimi - fatty salmon and fatty yellowtail. He won't order anything else and he loves it more than he loves me. I've had a couple of specialty rolls, wonderful every time. I'm now HOOKED on the tuna crispy rice and it's a perfect portion for me. The one thing I will never get again is the kimchi; I wanted to push through and eat it, but it was far too spicy for me. I've also had the seaweed salad a couple of times and really enjoyed that as well. I've also tried the wasabi pork dumplings. They were delicious, but even though I think this is the point, there was too much liquid inside for me. My takeout experience was mediocre. The spring rolls were decent (how do you mess those up), but things like the "tuna tower" were a big disappointment. More like a "tuna surprise you paid $15 and you got this diced tuna slurry!" I still ate it, but I was hungry and what was it gonna do? I am also a big fan of wasabi. I realize that what we get here in the US isn't actual real wasabi, and instead it's just some rehydrated paste made from horseradish, mustard and green food dye. But this vibrant shade of kelly green was just too much. Perhaps it was fine, I'm not going to be the one in the house to taste it to find out. The rolls we ordered were decent but nothing special. The beginning hamachi tempura maki (fried yellowtail roll) was kinda dried out and tasted like fast food french fries. The tuna avocado roll was probably the best thing we ordered and it was ok. I agree with all of the nice things said by the 5 star reviewers. I'm only docking one Star because - like all Sushi restaurants - they don't offer a cauliflower rice alternative to white rice. More and more people are turning to a Keto diet/life style, to cut down on carbohydrates and improve their metabolic health. Sushi bars/restaurants offer keto dieters a variety of healthy fish. But paying for rice as an automatic compliment to the fish, and not being able to eat it, is a waste of money. The type of rice served at sushi restaurants is a "state of Ketosis killer". Cauliflower rice is Keto friendly and would compliment fish just fine.
