I came here for the first time a couple of weeks ago. I was on the lookout for a Hawaiian restaurant since I used to live there so I was very happy to stumble upon Ate-Oh-Ate. The inside of the place is nice, has cute beach vibe to it. The people that work there are helpful and were friendly. I got the 2 plate which contains the Teriyaki Chicken and the Kalua Pig , the plate also comes with 2 scoops of rice and a scoop of macaroni salad. The Kalua Pork was very delicious! It was juicy and was savory. The Teriyaki chicken was great as well! They provide sauce and they recommend this clear sauce that you put on the pork which provides even more flavor to the pork. I've come here a few times within this month and will continue to come here when I get the chance ! read more

Reviewing is subjective. Ate oh ate's long been known for its burgers, as it's owned by the same folks as laurelhurst grill and reverend's bbq, places known for their meat. The burger was a bit dry. The bun a bit fluffy but it held up well. Salad was generous but a bit simple. Friendly guy at the counter. Atmosphere fairly bland. read more

My friends and I generally like this place! The musubi is a crowd favorite and we like their poke bowl, mac salad, and fried rice. Unfortunately our meals were extremely salty last time, which made it hard to eat, but otherwise the flavor and food quality was good. Seemed like a one off though. read more

We have tried the other location and both are good :) This location was CRAZY busy with take out/ pick up orders but we didn't end up waiting terribly long. The seating is good and the ambiance is cute, local art and stuff cute. Food is good we love a good Hawaiian place. The only complaint we have (personal preference) is that the katsu is not as chunky/ crispy fried like we like but flat crispy. Still good though! I would not recommend this place for a few reasons: The pictures on their website show the Chicken Teriyaki with a lot of sauce. The only sauce you get is what was cooked into it and you have to spend about an extra $15 to get the amount of sauce pictured on the menu. The Kalua Pig was good the first time we ordered it. Then, the next time it was watery - no flavor. And chicken thighs we got had bones in it. Also beware of ordering online. You may not get your food and if you do not, they will not refund your money. That is a lot of money to be out. Also, oddly, right after signing up to order online I started getting some bad spam in my email. Most of the people who work there are nice tho. The food is okay - but not consistent. It's nice to not have to cook. But it is not worth it to go here. read more

I've walked by here every 6 weeks for the last 3 years and thought to myself that I should try it...well I finally did and I'm sad I waited so long to do it. We love Ate-Oh-Ate! They are perfect for take out, delivery or a quick sit-down meal. If you're veg or just want to eat less meat, I think they have the best teriyaki tofu I've ever had. I eat here every day for lunch. Normally a very good place and food is mighty tasty. When I place my order I usually ask to subtract white rice and add extra Kim chi however I got a very odd response from them and they said no not sorry nothing I called back asking for manager the manager tells me to stop coming. Mind you I've lived across the street and went to our lady of sorrows I tried to track down the owner or owners to no avail so if you want tasty food with horrible customer service go here. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. This was, without a doubt, the worst attempt at Hawaiian food I've ever had. I ordered two meals and an appetizer, and the only thing even remotely edible was the macaroni salad--which was still subpar but at least wasn't dried out like everything else...even the rice! The chicken was an absolute disaster--dry as a bone, over-seasoned to the point of being inedible, and had zero resemblance to anything remotely Hawaiian--stale, dry, and completely flavorless (except for the overwhelming salt and seasoning). It's honestly impressive how they managed to ruin every part of the meal. If you're craving Hawaiian food, do yourself a favor and go literally anywhere else. I can't believe they have kept the doors open in this place... Never again. What a waste. Nothing like spending $50 on a scoop of Mac salad. read more

Everyone who worked here was really nice, so no issues with staff. They all worked hard and got the food out quickly, place was clean, etc. With that said, I've eaten a lot of local Hawaiian food spots since I left the island, this is definitely the worst- I'm not sure the owners who came up with the menu has ever eaten local food before. Bland. I don't even want to go into the eggs..., poor quality of ingredients. The best part was the Hawaii sun that got imported from Hawaii. I recommend the owners go to the islands and actually eat the food and see the difference. I was bringing food home for the family so I was waiting on answers of what each person wanted (which can get quite annoying) but the lovely hostess who took my order was beyond patient and helpful, even suggesting a drink I hadn't tried yet (Taro with Tapioca pearls) that is DELICIOUS! The food all came hot and quicker than expected, and everyone seated was happily enjoying their meals comfortably. Yes, the meal is pricey, BUT totally worth the hype. Not sure why this location has lower ratings than the one on Burnside but I'm a fan! It's definitely not a weekly meal as it can get pricey but when I'm down for a treat, I'd probably hit them up! I got the fried rice with Portuguese sausage and a fried egg, kimchi, side of Mac salad and a butter mochi cake. The fried rice was excellent but I ordered to go so the fried egg was definitely not runny. I'm sure if I had ate it when I got it, that egg would've been perfection. The fried rice was hella elevated with the kimchi. The kimchi is SO good. Mac salad was excellent as well but I think it also would've been better had I ate it right when I got it. It got room temperature so it tasted a little odd not cold That mochi cake though... damn. Chewy, buttery, so dang delicious! I will be thinking about that cake until I can satisfy the craving again. Came to participate in fundraiser for a school in the community. The cashier was so open and friendly and welcoming. I ordered a curry bowl, my daughter ordered a salad with teriyaki chicken. It's been awhile since I've gotten food from this Ate-Oh-Ate, and I while I've always been happy with it in the past, tonight was a real disappointment. We ordered delivery and I ordered the chicken teriyaki with mac salad and green salad (no rice). The green salad was fresh and crispy and the only decent part of my meal. There was rice in my dish (I didn't order or want that) but it looked like someone took a few bites of it before they closed the lid?! Maybe that or they did a half assed job of "taking it out"?! Absolutely love this place. I've been holding out on this place for too long.. I've been here for the past three days in a row. I'm pretty addicted to this teriyaki chicken they have. It's literally the greatest thing right now. The flavor is off the chain. The Mac salad is incredibly awesome too. I called here two days in a row, asking for them to really char the hell out of my chicken and make it black and they deliver every single time. It's my favorite way of chicken to be cooked on a grill charred dark. The pictures I've uploaded doesn't give it any justice. It was absolutely amazingly incredible.. Today's the first day I got the butter mochi and it was insanely good.. I highly recommend this place to anyone. Service wasn't welcoming , I had high expectations for this place for their plates based on other yelp and social media reviews . On Instagram the plate looked more fuller . We were told the portion sizes were "great ". we paid $22 for this plate the quality and portion does not equal the price we paid We asked to replace rice with salad and even paid extra for it to just be on the side with a box straight out of a bag with some carrots and sauce on top Also paid $17 for an entree of ribs just to be a tiny box (mainly bones with barely any meat) on the side we might as well have gotten another plate or a bowl. Finally tried Ate-Oh-Ate last night dinner and I thought it was great! I was hesitant with this locations reviews, seeing as the Burnside reviews are much better. But this was closer to me so I gave it a shot. I called in my order and it was super quick and easy. The guy who answered the phone was also helpful with my questions. I arrived at the restaurant 15 minutes later and my order was already ready. Due to COVID, they have a table at the front door with someone there to take your payment. The woman who took my card was also just as nice as the guy who answered the phone. My boyfriend and I ordered: Chicken teriyaki Korean chicken Fried rice with sausage + chicken cutlet Extra side of mac Everything was really great! Neither of us are kimchi fans but loved the kimchi that came with the korean chicken. It also is more spicy than sweet which is totally our preference! Also, BOTH chicken dishes had the yummy grilled/charred marks on it. You can really tell it was grilled and I love that. Mac salad was also good, more sweet than savory. Our group's last carry-out order included everyone's favorite Kalua pig (slow-roasted pork shoulder in banana leaves and steamed cabbage), multiple orders of teriyaki chicken (grilled strips of boneless chicken thighs with extra terikyaki sauce), some katsu pork (fried panko-crusted pork cutlets served with katsu sauce), and the Kalbi ribs (grilled beef short ribs in Korean marinade). All of our dishes came with nicely prepared rice and Ate-Oh-Ate's classic Hawaiian-style creamy mac salad. The food is da kine grinds to the max! The Korean Chicken Plate is my favorite. It's not fried chicken - it's perfectly grilled thighs covered with an amazing Korean sauce. Ok, this place has hella good Hawaiian food... it's just v pricey I got a spam musubi and a kalbi/teriyaki chicken combo plate. I'm usually not the biggest fan of spam musubis, but theirs are dope. They add some egg with green onion and it's heavenly. They don't advertise that they do combo plates, but you just need to ask. And of course, I made my plate Korean (MIK). Kimchi really helps cut through the heaviness of the meat and mac salad. Seasoning on everything was perfect. Not too salty like a lot of other places and just the right amount of sweetness.
