I have been wanting to try this restaurant for some time and this past weekend we did just that. They had a special Lobster bisque which we are suckers for. What a disappointment no lobster taste and I swear there was the imitation crab chunks. I went safe with a lamb Gyro w/ fries wife had chicken souvlaki. Both were good but not outstanding. The gyros are solid and reasonably price, but I hate that a side of fries (and not a great side of fries) is a 7 dollar add on. Always forget to remind myself to not get the fries. Other than that, a workable spot for a gyro. read more

This is still my go-to for sure, with the friendly staff and of course, the delicious food. Plenty of seats available which will indeed fill up, especially during the peak of lunch and dinner -- plan accordingly. So far, I'm thrilled with the choices I've picked from the menu, the Cheeseburger Deluxe, Chicken Gyro in the Pita, and Gyro in the Pita (regular). Everything in those orders was delicious, as well as messy. I'm curious to see what other foods they have to offer since I don't dine frequently. The owner, George, every time we come, will check-in and ask if we need anything, which goes a long way. Rarely, it's seen in other restaurants. We were traveling north on the Taconic when we decided to stop for lunch! So glad we chose Athena Gyro! The owner and her staff were super welcoming. The restaurant was very clean. The food was absolutely delicious and came in huge portions. I had a souvlaki gyro which I could barely finish. I wished that I had room for one of their desserts which are all homemade. I normally never ever comment when I have a negative review about a place or location because my opinion of their food it's just that an opinion. However this is the second time I've ordered from this location and felt bullied or judged while PICKING up my order. Both times I've picked up at this location I've been at the register paying and behind the girl taking my payment stands a man who I assume is the owner watching my every move and CLEARLY is annoyed at my lack of a tip. First time I got a dirty look tonight met with sarcasm. I always always tip generously while eating in and delivery but I have personally picked up my food twice and I know we live in a tip world but there is NO obligation for tipping at a pick up order. I will never give this place my business again. It's actually crazy to have someone act this way let alone stare you down and be so arrogant. I'm sure I'm not the only one! Our food arrived promptly and it tasted just as we'd remembered from the last trip to the area. Tried the befteki on pita. Excellent choice. It's essentially a grilled burger with the usual salad and tzatziki on top, served medium rare. Moist, flavorful, and very filling. The decor and atmosphere are inviting. The staff very attentive without being overbearing. While the weather is clement there's open air and under a canopy outdoor seating. The restrooms are hospital clean. That's a good sign. There are soft drinks, wine, and beer. The only drawback; and it's not the restaurant's fault - it's getting out of the parking lot on to the main drag; many of the motorists on the street won't give you a chance to pull into traffic, even though they CAN see you. read more

Being from Tarpon Springs (the Greek capital of the USA), I first lived in Astoria for their Greek food and had to find the best Greek locale when I moved to Dutchess. Everyone pointed me to Athena. Honestly, I had low expectations because other Greek restaurants in the Westchester/Dutchess area had failed me... but Athena really is the real deal. Everything I eat here reminds me of home. The dolmades and keftedes are perfect. I love their Greek salads (dressing has its own unique flavor that I love - I think raspberry?).
