Very underrated diner! Such a nostalgic spot and pretty much a childhood staple for anyone who grew up around here. The decor may have changed over the years, but the food has definitely not taken a step back. The hanger steak special was honestly one of the best meals I've had in a long time. Good burgers, good salads, good vibes all around. They also have a huge dessert case filled with fresh homemade pies and cakes. Service was great too -- very attentive, always checking in for refills, and never disappearing on the tables. That's hard to find nowadays. Keep it up -- I'll definitely be back. Looking for dinner on the way home Saratoga Springs and this was the perfect midway point back. A nice facade, it has some resemblance to the Daily Planet from Superman. It has a large parking lot. Upon entering, you can pick up souvenirs while you are waiting to be seated. There is counter, booth and table seating. It is quite spacious. They have an extensive menu and a separate dessert menu. We each ordered a different entree (Meatloaf sandwich, penne alla vodka, chicken and biscuit and oriental salad) and ordered a Daily Planet Smoothie. They were all pretty good. They were out of a few sides (they were very busy possibly due to power outages around town). Service was friendly and efficient. Recommend! read more

I was visiting the LaGrangeville area for the weekend. We stopped into the Daily Planet for dinner on Saturday night. It seemed pretty busy, but we were seated right away, with no weight. The inside is quite large and there is plenty of room. I have a gluten allergy and was happy to see if they had gluten-free buns, rolls and bread as options on their menu. Our waitress was very helpful and simply a delight. We both started with the Peach Arnold Palmer mocktail. It was great. And came in a fancy glass. We both had burgers with side salads for dinner. Dinners were delivered timely. Side salad was excellent. Good size and dressing was tasty. The classic bacon cheeseburger was cooked to order. I went on a Saturday morning with my daughter. It was busy! The tables were clean and the staff was very helpful. It was my 1st time and they were great at suggesting things my 11 year old might enjoy. I ordered the buttermilk pancakes with sausage. It tasted homemade & delicious! Large servings I even took 1 pancake home for my toddler. My daughter had a fun Mocktail, buffalo chicken tenders, and a huge sundae. She gasped with delight when it arrived at the table. This diner has character! Brightly lit and loosely Superman themed this isn't your dingy roadside diner. No sir! The staff was friendly and helpful and the food was great as well. If I have one "complaint" it's that the chicken in my Cobb salad was a little rubbery but it could have just been the actual piece of chicken I received and no fault of the diner. The bathrooms were super clean AND they even have an arm door opener so do don't have to touch the door handle when you leave the restroom! The dessert selection was just WOW! Don't get the 'Tuna Poke Bowl'. Just don't. Maybe I'm the clown-ass for getting this from a local diner instead of a place that specializes in sushi, but I was too curious to NOT try it. I'm dumb. This is what you get when you ask ChatGPT what a poke bowl is, and just go with it without questioning a single word of it. This is a -generated food simulation. Sticky rice? Okay... just a scoop with no seasoning. At all. It's glue. Tuna? Make sure you cook it way too much on the edges.... doesn't matter. Seaweed salad? Three strands should be enough! Cabbage slaw? Feeling generous, we'll add four strands! These were main selling points, not garnishes... and they were basically just forgotten. Literally less than a bite of each. And the eda mame. Oh christ have mercy. You're supposed to SHELL IT you dinks! You don't put full-on bean pods in the bowl, cover them in a sticky sauce, and then expect people to dig into it and use their hands to pop them open. That's dumb. You're dumb. And all of the sauce somehow was concentrated on the beans... everything else was absolutely flavorless. It was a weird tiny appetizer that cost $20. We got McDonalds on the way home. It was better. I remembered there was a diner, off of the taconic that was really good quite a number of years ago. Was hoping it was still there, and it was! Plenty of parking in the back and easy to access. Upon entering, there are mouth watering displays of dessert. Fortunately, the hostess appeared quickly and brought us to a booth. Their menu was quite extensive. So many things called to me. Finally chose the Patty Melt with Swiss cheese. My husband chose the Chicken with avocado panini. Both selections came with coleslaw and fries. The Patty melt was so good! So juicy, was glad I had lots of napkins. Was surprised to find the coleslaw was very good too! In fact, finished it all, and had leftover French fries, lol. My husband liked his Chicken avocado too. He also agreed that the coleslaw was really tasty. Had leftovers, and packed them up. Our server Maximino was attentive and friendly. Suggested dessert, but I couldn't eat another bite. Well, on our way out, I saw the strawberry cheesecake again. Took a picture, because it looked so deliciously pretty. And then decided to take a piece home. And although it seemed a bit pricey for a slice, I didn't care. So glad I did because when I took a peek at home, that slice was Huge. Easily enough for two people. And boy was it delicious!! Their "Fonz" Burger is huge, loaded with heapin' helpings of lettuce and tomato, topped with cheese and a Bermuda onion. It's a steal at $8.95. AMBIANCE: Classis, NY Diner with updated art and lighting.. extremely clean. SERVICE: our server, Nicolette, is lovely with a two million dollar smile! She was courteous, hospitable, and efficient, taking care to communicate my food allergies to the kitchen. MY ORDER: The house daily special steak($39) served with a generous helping of plump asparagus and mashed potatoes ( I substituted baked). Was it a $39 meal? No. Typically, at a diner the meals come with soup or salad and bread. I missed having bread with my meal, particularly since diners are typically known for fresh options. The steak would have been better served if it were seared to form a nice crust. It was a bit limp as it cooked with too much liquid. Perhaps it had been frozen first, which would explain the texture that was just a little underwhelming. Don't get me wrong, this meal was definitely worth every bit of $29 but at $39, a thicker cut was definitely called for. My daughter opted for a rice bowl, rice surrounded by lettuce, cubed, grilled chicken breast, avocado, and some other vegetables. I'm a huge fan of salads and didn't feel that for $20. This bowl lived up to the hype but she enjoyed it. Would we order it again, probably not I would more likely for their walnut or pecan salad with cranberries and grilled chicken which I have had before and is delicious Having just come from a family gathering, we did not want to invite in any alcohol or fizzy beverages so glass of water with lemon was my choice. Not too much room for dessert but the desserts at daily planet are extraordinary so I took dessert to go. Lemon meringue pie at 599 per slice was minuscule in comparison to other diners. The flavor was good and it was definitely fresh but for almost 6 dollars the slice could've been more generous. Napoleon. Their Napoleons are outstanding with flaky layers and pastry cream topped with that nostalgic icing. All in all, our bill without drinks and before tip was about $75 for the two of us - pretty pricey for diner. Driving up to the Daily Planet Diner, it's a throwback to an early concept. Any diner provides a solo diner or a family the ability to enjoy a solid blue plate special without breaking your bank account. My wife & I enjoyed this diner. Walking in, there are plenty of red counter stools at a large counter. Very diner-y! There are also booths along the windows, the space is very comforting. Diners are an East Coast thing and The Daily Planet has nailed the diner vibe. The menu is substantial. I went here after fasting for a procedure. I love the number of delicious options! The diner was busy when we arrived at 1:15pm, however, we were quickly seated and got water immediately. Our waitress was quick to get our drink orders and was ready to take our order when we were! The service is very efficient and the food was great! I'm admittedly leery of diners outside the Long Island/NYC area - it's rare they come even close to what I get at home. But when you're with a large group that's all voted for one spot in particular sometimes you just have to go with the flow. This was my exact scenario recently on a trip back from upstate with a bunch of family members. They talked a lot about this diner we had to hit on the way downstate. I was skeptical but went with it. First impressions are everything and Daily Planet was certainly impressive from the start. You walk into a huge diner that is clean and very cleverly themed after their namesake newspaper of comic lore. You don't see this often in a diner - I'm talking something out a TV show spotless. And to their credit within 10 minutes our group of 15 was seated and ready to go. Service at DP was equally impressive. Never a long wait for anything, especially the coffee. The super nice gentleman handling the refills was never far away, almost a sixth sense for when you needed a freshening up. Pleased to report that the coffee was fresh & super tasty at every refill. On to the food. When I'm at a diner for breakfast it's pretty much a lock that I'm getting corned beef hash. So when I spotted it featured on their breakfast offerings I knew what I was doing right away. Opted to swap the standard poached eggs they give for my preferred sunny side up which was no problem at all and boy am I glad I did. On first glance when it arrived I knew I was in for a treat - the yolks on those eggs were that beautiful orange shade you only get when they're super fresh from the farm. Unbelievably tasty and the hash was incredible as were the home fries. Also opted for the multigrain toast which was clearly fresh made and absolutely worth the small upcharge. I wasn't sure why they were giving hollandaise with this dish but I'm glad I gave it a go because it was one of the better ones I've had and went beautifully with this incredible breakfast. Definitely impressed and wishing this place was closer to home. Will certainly back on future trips upstate. read more

On my way to the Taconic Parkway. I've passed this restaurant/diner hundreds of times and never had the opportunity to stop in. Well that changed this Sunday after coming back from New York City. I stopped in for a bite to eat. The restaurant was very busy. However, we were seated right away and if you look at the pictures I posted you'll see that I got a Texas Cajun chicken sandwich on Texas toast. The sandwich consisted of Cajun spiced chicken with peppers avocado mozzarella cheese and tomatoes on Texas Toast. It was super tasty and had some zing/spice to the sandwich. Their plain fries were excellent crispy and packed with flavor. The frozen Tequila Sunrise was a pass I did not enjoy it. Our waiter was bad and efficient. One thing I can't say if this is always but it was down right cold from the AC. Otherwise they had a wide variety of dishes and a neighboring table got meatloaf dinners and the portions were huge. I think this is a good option while in Dutchess County. read more

There's nothing better than finding a tasty diner with a lot to offer. It's located in a prime location right off of the Taconic State Parkway which can be used as a pit stop and also of course people who live nearby. We've been dining here for many years and no issues have occurred on every visit. Sometimes there are days, especially Sundays at lunch where there will be waiting to get a table which could be long or short including the waiter or waitress coming to the table effectively. In life, sometimes patience is the way to go. The main foods I get are burgers, and also pancakes for breakfast which was all good. I won't forget the one visit which in fact was recently when I got their milkshake, and boy was it tasty. The number of visits we make isn't a lot, so there's some exploring to be done on the menu. Something that stuck my eye is the renovation that took place, and I have no idea when it happened, but it looks very nice and has a modern feel to it. I do miss seeing the jukebox at the booth. Service here is great going from the hostess, waiter/waitress, and to the busboy. With all that, make it a (daily) reminder to stop by. read more

California burger was underwhelming. The patty was dry and flavorless. Reminded me of public school cafeterias. Skip. Crispy chicken cutlet panini was very dry as well. Zero sauce--just one tiny drop drizzled on the bread. The chicken cutlet was thick and plentiful. The highlight was the sweet potato fries that we got as a side for our dishes. Seriously some of the best sweet fries I've ever had--perfectly golden, crispy, and flavorful. The portions are huge. The food quality is ehh, but for the price you get an enormous plate that'll fill you up if you're starving. The dessert display that you encounter right upon entering the diner, lured me to try the very highly reviewed cheesecake. Unfortunately, they run out of cheesecakes by end of day (6pm). We were sad that they don't make enough and that we didn't get to try the strawberry cheesecake, as the couple next to us ordered the last piece right before us. The brownie cheesecake was delicious though. Bits of brownie stuffed in the cheesecake. Wish the cheesecake was more moist. I tried the French Toast Supreme on my first visit and it was delicious and quite a bit of food. The staff was super courteous- from the waitress to the hostess to the busser. It's nice be be able to write a 5-star review again since it's been awhile, and we've recently contemplated not venturing beyond our own kitchen. We were a party of three plus a 3-year-old having late breakfast/early lunch. My wife and our friend ordered burgers, cooked to their differing orders, and they were both satisfied with the results. It's nice to see the chef and server coordinated the delivery of these two items considering Julie's was very well done and our friend's was medium rare. I ordered a two-egg breakfast, sunny-side up, white toast, and soft bacon. Meal came totally to my specifications. Server interacted well with the toddler in our group, and was patient with our group that lingered for more than an hour. They filled the coffee mug faster than I could request more. The Daily Planet offers a great dining experience and numerous menu choices that would please most. It's no wonder they have such longevity. read more

Then when she explained how important it was, they released her of all shifts for "a few weeks". .... Then proceeded to call potential new hires offering her shifts in her presence. Daily Planet is a spot where I wish Yelp would allow us to give 1/2 star reviews, because our experience here was a solid 3.5/5. However, we are huge fans of Red Line Diner, which is owned by the same team that owns Daily Planet, and while we've never had a bad meal at RLD, our Daily Planet dinner left much to be desired. The restaurant seems cute from the outside, with neon signage and bright lights. However, when you walk inside, the interior seems kind of dated and could use a bit of sprucing up. Nonetheless, our table was clean, and sometimes, it's all you can ask for. The menu is super similar to Red Line's, with a few minor changes. I usually get the Healthy Start Breakfast Burrito at Red Line, but at Daily Planet, it was prepared in the form of a quesadilla. Okay, sounds good. However, I was expecting deli turkey, and it came with turkey sausage. Eek. Not my fave. My boyfriend got a Turkey Burger, which was actually quite good. Because I didn't love my Quesadilla, I ended up sharing the Turkey Burger with him. On a happier note, my Matzoh Ball Soup was delicious! As for desserts, we got a Banana Milkshake (my boyfriend), and an Espresso con Panna (me). Both were very good, and I'm actually glad I wasn't crazy about my entree, because it gave me more room to sneak a few sips of the milkshake when Gary wasn't looking :) They also have a good variety of cakes, Italian cookies, and puddings if you're in the mood, and diners owned by this restaurant group have a pretty good track record with baked goods, so I'd recommend saving room for something sweet! Our waitress was great, and we ended up chatting with her toward the end of our meal. She was funny and had a great personality. We also have to give a shout out to the wonderful cashier at the counter. Large menu and even larger serving sizes! Good breakfast food selection, classic diner eats. Nothing crazy special but tasty and good bang for your buck! We both ordered pancakes (lots of fun flavours and large) coming 3 to a plate, served with butter and syrup! My family has been frequenting this diner for years and always have had a satisfying meal. But not this time... We waited a long time for the waitress to come to the table after we were seated. She finally arrived and took our order after getting us menus. I ordered coffee and a hamburger Deluxe-simple enough. My dining partner ordered a bowl of chili ($15.00 for a bowl of chili is pretty steep). The waitress hardly visited the table after that. First, we never got the coffee and had to ask a busboy for it. The lunch items arrived and there was no pickle or coleslaw on the burger plate and I had to ask a bus boy for that. The burger was fine, however the $15.00 chili was tasteless. And we realized later that the chili was supposed to come with a salad, which we were never offered at all. Poor service, poor product.
