DID I JUST EXPERIENCE RACISM?!?!?
I contemplated long and hard before writing this review (I've never written a bad review), but felt obligated to share my experience. I have been going to this Salon for more than 3 years for lashes. I've always LOVED the work that SuSu does, and her prices are really good. I typically call in to make appointments, and usually can be seen that same day, or the following day. I called in on Friday, 8/6 to make an appointment. Alan looked at the schedule and advised me of late afternoon slots for Saturday and Sunday, neither worked. I then made an appt for 8/9 @ 6:30PM. My Saturday plans shifted, so I called again Saturday, to see if the afternoon appt was still available, but it was not, so I kept my Monday appt. I am an Accounting Manager, and was faced with issues at work related to month end close. I had to work late, and totally forgot about my Monday evening appt. I received a call from SuSu which I missed. As soon as I realized that I missed the appointment, I sent her a text (I have her personal number, as we've built a rapport, or so I thought, considering my tenure), profusely apologizing for the oversight. I booked another appointment for the following Sunday. I walked in apologizing, as I felt HORRIBLE, because I missed the appt. SuSu stated that this was my 3rd time doing it. I rebutted, because I know for certain that this isn't something that I do. She challenged me, and said we can ask Alan, because he makes the appts. She then said to me, that only her black clients are no calls, no shows, never her white clients. I was in total shock, and was at a lost for words, that she would say something so racist . I was HOT, so I didn't say a word. She later said that she knew that I was mad, but I don't understand that she loses money when that happens. I then said, I totally understand, that's why I will pay for the last time, in addition to this time, because I will NEVER return. A few minutes went by, and she apologized. She blamed her behavior on stress, from her upcoming wedding and some business stuff. She said, "Dee, I should have never said that to you. I know better than to talk to a client like that". She didn't apologize for judging me for the color of my skin, but she apologized for saying what she felt, out loud. I'm not a very emotional person at all, but I cried . I cried because I thought we had built a rapport. We've talked about family, traveling, business ventures. I asked her to give me a minute, so I could get myself together, and you can't finish lashes with tears LOL. I apologized again, and told her how HORRIBLE I felt when I realized it. She pretty much coddled me for the rest of the appt. She walked me to Alan, told him it was $60 (she never does this), it's usually $45, so I'm thinking she was trying to recoup some of the loss. I asked Alan to charge me $100, he said that he couldn't, and she told me not to worry about it. I then walked to Royal Farm, and pulled out the additional $40, walked back, and gave it to a technician to give to her, as she was working on another customer. I thought long and hard, to determine if I did a no call, no show before, and remembered an incident where I had fallen asleep. Alan called, I told him that I fell asleep, and ended going the same day, just a little late. Two unintentional incidents in more than 3 years, and I am accused of doing it because I'm black? We've both made mistakes. She's made an 8AM appt with me (shop doesn't open until 9AM) and had totally forgotten about it, to the point where I am sitting in front of the shop, calling her on her cell phone. I've been there at my appt time (slots are an hour long) and waited for 30 minutes, having to reschedule because her appointments are tight, and a rush 30 minute lash job, just won't do. This has happened more than once. I've been being serviced, where's she's taken phone calls, walked out and left me to deal with other customers. In these instances, I understand that life happens, and I've never once judged her for it. I would have expected the same courtesy. SuSu still thinks I'm mad. That's what she told my girlfriend, another lash client which I referred. I am not mad, I am hurt. Needless to say, I will never go back there again, knowing that the owner thinks this way, even if she never says it out loud again. read more
