I'm blown away. Last night, me, my sister and her bf decided to get some dinner before I leave. We wanted to spend cheap but eat something that'll keep us satisfied. They kept raving about Athenian and how good their food was. They told me Athenian wouldn't disappoint and that their portions are generous and will be sure to keep me full. I was curious at first because it seemed as if their burgers and fries were popular. Because this was a Greek joint, I was wondering why the talk of their gyros wasn't as popular? Well I was wrong.. I ordered the double bacon cheeseburger for about $7 and their Lg. Fries with a custom order of feta cheese melted on top; Greek style. They really take their time here cooking up from scratch. Once my meal arrived I was stunned. Everything looked on point as far as portion and the looks of everything. The burger was stacked with well grilled meat and fresh toppings inside. I knew it was great when I had to spread my palms open for this burger. Yes indeed this was worth it. The fries were steak cut size with melted feta on top. They serve a generous portion that will keep you full for sure. Since I had it custom made, it was $4 for it rather than $2.50. This is one of the best places to go if you're looking for a cheap bite but made fresh from scratch. The ingredients are fresh and the portions are on point. They made a great breakfast for thirty men today. The portions were big, the food was good and they were friendly and on time.

I just tried this place for the first time. The BURGERS came highly recommended, and so did the BREAKFAST BURRITOS, so we decided to try both. We also got some CHILI CHEESE FRIES. Someone recommend the RANCH, so we got a couple sides of that, and also a side of THOUSAND ISLAND dressing (I always get ranch & thousand w/ a burger anyway). Here's what we both thought: :---DOUBLE CHEESEBURGER---: Really good, but I'll probably just get a single next time. :---BREAKFAST BURRITO---: It had undercooked bacon in it. Gross!!! I also wished it had more cheese. In some of the Yelp pics, they sure looked cheesier than mine was. It still would have been a really good burrito if the bacon wasn't so chewy. We ended up picking the bacon out, or there's no way we would've finished the burrito. The green salsa was also really good! :---CHILI CHEESE FRIES---: Fabulous! Super cheesy. I highly recommend! Yummm!! :---RANCH---: Pretty good, but I prefer a buttermilk-style ranch. I think they might use some yogurt in their ranch or something. It's different, and it's good, but it's just not my fav. :---THOUSAND ISLAND---: Deeeeeelish! Forget the ranch. I'll just get extra Thousand next time. Ordered 2 burgers via Grubhub. When you buy the combo, it prompts you to select two sides and a drink. Yet for some unfathomable reason, the restaurant only gives you your first choice. I tried calling the restaurant and was told they have known about the problem "for awhile" but it wasn't their responsibility. They also said they were too busy to call customers to let them know. I've had the best gyros here! Their chili cheese fries and cheeseburgers are to die for and they deliver! What more can you ask for? They have meal deals on certain days that can feed a family They have private parking in the back, but be careful because there is only one way to get in and out. They have indoor seating. And it gets really busy sometimes during lunch. The staff is ever-changing but they've all been friendly. Their food is affordable and delicious. Definitely recommend this place. This place has been around forever and I hope it continues to stay around because this is my go to for gyros! read more

Came in and ordered the chicken and lamb kabobs plate, the lamb kabobs were very miserable in the portions served. They used to be very generous with the servings, for the price you pay it's not comparably fair. Everything else service wise excellent. The girl at the counter has a great and bubbly disposition. I've been to this place a couple times before for breakfast. I guess breakfast is pretty difficult to mess up. I decided to have the Greek salad today and I wanted to add gyro meat to it. I realized they don't have this as an option, instead they told me I had to order the gyro plate which of course was several dollars more because it's usually served for dinner. So I went ahead and ordered it and I cannot believe what I ended up with... not only was it not gyro meat NOT from a spit, like I'm used to but it was processed, not even real meat, in the shape of a long rectangle. Absolutely disgusting, I had to return it, I'm shocked that this is what they offer at an authentic looking Greek restaurant. Definitely not appetizing. When I was 19 years old, I used to come here all the time for my lunch break. I used to love this place, but didn't want to review it because I haven't been here for a few years (6 years to be exact). Before class started, I decided to grab a bite somewhere, since the fridge was empty..... again.... Saw this place and my stomach started growling. I had to obey. Parking is never a problem. You can always find a spot on Reseda (a quarter for an hour) or you can pull into their parking lot in the back. This place hasn't changed one bit. Simple, nothing fancy, and plenty of spaces to park your behind and enjoy a good burger. I ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger ($3.75), Charbroiled Chicken Sandwich ($4.75) and large fries ($2.00). As I unwrapped the Bacon Cheeseburger, I instantly remembered why I loved this place so much. Loads of crispy bacon that make you drool from just looking at them! (Pictures are included above... enjoy!) Was definitely a great burger. The charbroiled chicken sandwich was also good, but was a bit too much after the burger and the fries. The fries here are salted and seasoned with chili powder or something. Hard to say if they're good or not, as some of the fries come crunchy and delicious, while some end up being a bit too soggy for my taste. The service is always great, quick and with a smile. :D They got a huge selection of stuff: Steak sandwich, Pastrami sandwich, Fish sandwich, Ham sandwich, Tuna sandwich, Turkey sandwich, Hot Dogs, Corn Dogs, Chili, Gyros, and they serve breakfast the entire day. I'll just stick with their breakfast burritos. I was first introduced to Athenian Grill in the late 1990's when I used to work for a health club that was 1/2 mile from the restaurant. My shift was from 5:30am to 12pm. Like clock work, when it's 7am I would call in a breakfast burrito to be delivered. I still remember fondly of the breakfast burrito. So recently I was craving a Gyro and I did a search and Athenian Grill came up. I made a beeline there and ordered the Gyro. I was not impressed. Meat looked like it was sliced "pre form" meat (see picture), the taste was OK but I will definitely not get this again. I got a combo so it came a side salad and drink for $9.00, I'm glad that I didn't spend too much on it. read more

I've been going to Athenian grill for a very long time and never had complaints. Usually I get the cheeseburger combo or the breakfast burrito. Both come with lots of fries that are real good and plenty full. For some reason the past few times I've gone the breakfast burritos haven't tasted the same and I've actually had to throw a whole burrito away because the taste was so off. This place was great, exactly what I was looking for...a tasty gyro that I didn't have to drive to LA for. This thing was crammed full of freshly sliced gyro meat, sliced cucumbers, tomatoes, red onion and tzatziki sauce. I ate the whole thing when I really should have stopped half way through. It was huge! French fries were fresh, crispy and loaded with season salt. I squeezed on the ketchup and went to town. Location was surprisingly clean and the service was fast and friendly. Unlike other reviews, I thought this place was just OK. The burger was descent, huge in size but I wasn't really feeling the flavor too much. I had a bite of the gyro meat (I think it was lamb) my girl ordered and I thought the meat tasted a little weird as well. The fries, horchata and baklava were REALLY good though. The 4 stars are based on expectations. Anyone who walks into the Athenian Grill for the first time isn't expecting much. And the only way this place will impress your boss is if you work for a real cheapskate. But you can get a decent meal here at the Athenian. Breakfast, burgers, and Greek staples are the primary offering although they have chicken strips and a couple of Mexican items too. none of it spectacular, all of it hot, fresh and cheap. Today I ordered something I had never seen on a menu before a gyro melt. I didn't ask when I ordered it, but in my mind I visualized a typical gyro in a pita with cheese. What I got was similar to a patty melt except that it was on toasted sourdough instead of rye, and there was sliced gyro meet instead of a burger patty. Also it had American cheese instead of Swiss. I asked for my fries extra crispy and they were served up nice and brown; crispy and hot. Speaking of which Nia Vardalos from "My Big Fat greek wedding" has an autographed poster on the wall. It is isn't hard to imagine kicking back with a Greek Salad in a place like this. OK it wasn't that much like a patty melt, but it was good and i will order it again. I've been going to this place for years. I only go for the burgers but have had the Gyro on occasion. Burgers are good and love that they give you ranch and chilies on the side. Not sure why they give you a super large drink when they should charge extra for that. I never finish the drink and have in the past asked for the smaller size. Gyro is good but not the best I had. The staff is awesome but seems like they have a lot of turnover at this place. It sucks because you like how one treats you and makes you comfortable with going back. Then when you do is someone totally different. The place is in need of a remodeling. Kinda old and that paint color drives me crazy. Also, don't call it a Mediterranean place. I'm sure you still more burgers than Gyros and should call it a burger joint. Just my opinion. Overall I love this place and will still continue to oder a burger and fries. read more
