Menudo has no hominy.
Steph K.

I don't like leaving negative reviews but I am very disappointed this morning with our food from Castillo, it was our first time trying this restaurant too. It was a to-go order so our disappointment initially was when we got home and found NO hominy in the menudo, would have been good to know that's how they make it, then the broth was bland too, not much flavor. We ordered the salsa verde plate too and I think it was just ok, not impressed. The other thing to top it off was that it was overpriced, we wouldn't mind having paid $41 (2 sodas included) for this if the food was actually good. I give it two stars because the service is friendly and the restaurant looks clean.

Came here for breakfast. I went with the huevos rancheros. Let me say this they weren't what I expected. Im use to the hard fried tortilla but, the food was great. The rice and beans taste good. The sauce for the eggs taste good also. Came on a Sunday morning it was not busy which I liked. Their cashier and cook were friendly pretty welcoming.

Was in the area and craving machaca. So glad I found this place on Yelp. It was early in the day so not crowded. It's a small place, nothing fancy, and pretty hidden. Friendly service, accommodating, and quick. Ordered a machaca plate, an asada burrito, and horchata. Free chips and salsa when dining in. The spicy salsa was so dang good and made my scalp sweat! Everything was so delicious, including the rice and beans. The ratio of meat to rice in the burrito was on point. Will definitely be back!

The skylight room is my favorite--it gets so much natural light and feels super refreshing. The customer service was amazing too. The food tasted fresh and didn't feel overly processed or heavy. The chai latte was good, nothing too crazy, and I liked that the pastries weren't overly sweet. Definitely a spot I'd come back to!

Our waiter was knowledgeable about the menu and listed out some of the menu favorites. We were checked on and given water regularly, which was great! Second, I love the vibe in here. It's a bigger space than I expected. Within the restaurant there is a main dining area, a side room, and outdoor seating. There's also a little space for selling pastries/desserts that I found quite cute. As the name suggests, there is a humble vibe. The parking situation is a bit limited. There are not many spaces out front, which is something to be aware of if you're thinking of stopping by. Lastly, the food was really delicious. I ordered the Panwich and tried a little bit of my friends omelette. The omelette was really good and cooked to my liking. The panwich was also really good! I'm a sucker for the savory + sweet combo. The combo of sausage, pancake, syrup, marscapone cheese, and apples was elite. Overall, I had a wonderful experience and will be coming again more!

Today I went back to my local stereo shop on Reseda Blvd for a repair to my stereo…read more When I visited this same stereo shop six months ago, I decided to visit the coffee shop across the street for some food while I waited for my repair. On that visit, I met Joyce the owner, and she happily served me my meal that day, and I had an exceptional experience. I left Joyce's coffee shop a very satisfied five star review later that day. The last time I came, Joyce was not present again (she works weekends). Today I tried to visit Joyce again, but forgot she works weekends--but today I met Ms. Faith. Faith's customer service was above and beyond. The warmth. The friendliness. The pride in her work and her role in the Joyce's Coffee Shop family. The joy. The most charming smile and energy. The enthusiasm. The work ethic. I wanted Faith to join me for my meal, but she never stopped working, and she had no break planned. Faith is actually a former bartender for many years. She made millions of dollars in tips over the years, because all the drunks would fall in love and hand their wallets over to Faith. She was great at what she did. Patrons would go to her bar, sit down, and blackout just because they were there to chat with Faith for as long as possible. Of course they couldn't just sit there--so they'd just order drink after drink. And drink. And tip. And then ATM. And then more drinks with Faith. Tips tips tips. Faith made millions as a bartender. That's how she bought her Bentley coupe. As a bartender, she even got a 3 wedding proposals, and 4 "modeling" offers . And Faith LEFT the money and the fame--once she discovered Joyce's Coffee Shop. Faith knew she wanted to be in that warm, friendly and welcoming atmosphere--as often as possible. Faith applied for work at Joyce's, followed-up daily with Joyce's for 2 weeks, and ultimately earned herself a spot on Team JCS. The food was 5-stars--as always. It's as goods as eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes and hot coffee get. The environment was another 5-stars--always clean, always welcoming and always playing carefully curated playlists of yesterday's biggest hits. Joyce's Coffee Shop has been in business since 1955, and they've done such a great job of not only preserving the original dining room setup and upholstery, but also the original owner's commitment and dedication to great food in a welcoming environment--produced and served by the best customer service. And sitting in Joyce's Coffee Shop is like sitting in a blast from the past. It's classic. It's retro. It's vintage. It's well-preserved. Joyce's Coffee Shop is part of San Fernando Valley history. It's kinda like a Valley historical landmark. It's definitely a San Fernando Valley treasure. It's on its 4th owner, and it was never sold to a new owner that wasn't fully committed to the original owner's original mission. I LOVE THAT. All staff is warm, friendly and welcoming. Even the customers are warm, friendly and welcoming--they all seem to know exactly where they are, and thats why they are there. Have you ever watched "Cheers"? That show about a bar where everybody knows your name? It's got that local feel. The best feel. You'll never get that at Denny's, IHOP or Norms. I live in Woodland Hills so I'm rarely in Northridge, but if I am around in the AM or lunchtime -- I hope to visit again. Food -- 5 stars (I'm still stuffed) Environment -- 5 Stars (clean & cool) Service -- ‍‍‍‍‍ 5 stars -- (only because I can't give 6)

Nothing succeeds like excess. In fact, most people will need a take out box for one less meal to cook. Delicatessen means delicate eating in German, but at a Jewish American Delicatessen, the emphasis is on the Eating, which I am not complaining. 1) I requested an off menu item of having a Reuben sandwich where half is Corned Beef and the other Pastrami. Brent's Reuben has warm Sauerkraut, grilled Rye bread, melted Swiss Cheese, 1,000 Island dressing. Thinly sliced, multi-layered Mound of Pastrami is a bit on the dry side. Curing doesn't create a deep meaty Umami and spicing is present but attenuated. The Corned Beef is moister with bit more Umami & plush, thin multi-layered red colored meat. I have to say the Pastrami at Langer's is cured more intensely to bring out a deep Umami as well as more complex and complementary spicing of especially warm spiced cloves that adds aromatic richness. Brent's Pastrami doesn't seem to reach that kind of apotheosis. 1b) I asked for the steak fries to be fried two minutes longer for a crisper finish which was honored. Not much in way of that distinctive potato earthiness, but acceptable. 1c) Coleslaw is mayonnaise based, watery, bland, but a good cruciferous, fibrous veggie to add more fibre, healthful phytochemicals to counter the meat overload even though it isn't flavourful 2) Carrot Cake is closer to a delicate, dense, moist spice cake. A slice is enormous since it is cut from an extra tall cake studded with crushed walnuts and a cream cheese like not too sweet frosting. At $14 it could feed 4 people. Service is fine. They take your order and run with it. Bit of tunnel vision where it may be a bit hard to flag them down. But the job does get done. Overall 3+ stars

When you're tired of the breakfast burrito game, Egg Tuck is the easy go-to that reminds you breakfast can be simple, elegant, and incredibly satisfying all at once. The Avo Egg sandwich is a must. Pillow soft scrambled eggs piled high on a soft brioche-style dark bread with fresh avocado and a delicious house sauce topped with chives. The bread was slightly on the darker side but it didn't detract from the overall experience one bit -- every bite was rich, creamy, and satisfying. These are genuinely some of the best eggs in the city and at around $11 for the sandwich it's a fair price for the quality you're getting. Don't skip the tater tots. Crispy, hot, and perfectly cooked -- the small comes in at just $2.50 and the large is $5.29, making them one of the better value sides you'll find anywhere. They pair perfectly with the sandwich. The space is clean, bright, and welcoming with good customer service to match. Parking is easy too -- there's a parking lot below and free street parking available nearby, which in the Valley is always a bonus.
