    My receipts

Went to buy tamales about 2weeks ago. For starters I ordered a dozen I get charged for 15. The gentleman who took my order starts a refund. Tell me it will go back to my card (paid with debit). I waited a couple of days since it was a Saturday. Gave it a couple of days for my bank to process. Go back to Talk to Juan the manager. Gave me this long run around how the guy did a cash refund not a debit. Makes some calls has me waiting around for an hour. Finally gave me a copy that the refund will be hitting my account in 1-3business days. It hit my account Monday 6/4. Wake up today they pulled my refund Wednesday 6/6. You might say whatever it's $15.00 the point is it's my money. I was going to let this go but I've called them multiple times today. Feels like Mr.juan is trying to hide or not deal with this. So here I am leaving this review. Now for the tamales The chicken with green salsa were so undercooked the masa was grainy AF! The beef were so skimpy it was more masa than beef. F#€K this place! Want Really good tamales like your Tia's or Abuela make on Christmas drive to Pacoima, Van Nuys and Laurel Canyon. That little hut of a shop is the best in valley.

Top: Tamal de Puerco con Salsa de Chile Colorado/"California sauce". Tamal de Pollo con Salsa Verde

Tamales House is in a stripmall, basic fast food format where you order at the counter, pick up, eat at tables, or take out. Obviously, emphasis is on Tamales of all kinds: meat, vegetarian, but there is an errant Chile Relleno, Costillas de Puerco en Salsa Verde, limited street tacos, etc. 1) Tamal de Pollo con Salsa de Chile Verde is stuffed with breast meat chicken in green sauce. Breast meat is moist & soft without much Umami as usually expected. Chile Verde Sauce is subtle yet still retains a fermented, green Chile, Tomatillo flavours. However, there is a blandness that may need a bit of chopped Jalapeño or Serrano to give it a slight piquant kick to excite the taste buds. However, on the positive side, the Masa has a good infusion of Salsa de Chile Verde The Chile Verde Sauce on the side had a good vinegar acidity, garlicky, piquant green Chile flavour which did awaken the Tamal de Pollo con Chile Verde. 2) Tamal de Puerco con Salsa de Chile Colorado or "California Sauce" according to Tamales House. Generous amount of stringy, meaty pork in a very pronounced red Chile sauce which reminds me of flavours in "Chile con Carne" and has a kick with complex flavours that are sweet-salty, touch smoky, acidic, herbal, earthy on the palate. The Pork is the better of the two Tamales. The Salsa Roja has a cloudy, creamy look and vinegar acidity. Good Chile piquancy that has a lingering warmth and heats up the lip & palate. Canned tomato Umami, garlic, slight smokiness which enriches the relatively mild tasting Masa. The Masa at Tamales House is kind of like eating a firmer version of cream of wheat. Baby food soft as one chews, kind of mushy. Like to have a more rough ground Masa that has a substantial mouth feel instead of almost baby food pablum. Not bad Tamales, but missing that "Je ne sais quois quality". 3+ stars

I tried these tamales and they are really solid! I had a pork, beef and strawberries and cream. Surprisingly I really liked the beef and was super into the strawberry tamale even though I'm not big on sweet tamales. The masa itself is tasty and is not dry. I wouldn't say these were the best I've ever had, but definitely a place I would take my coworkers and family for some good food. I recommend trying them out especially considering how big they are! If I had one I would be satisfied because they are bigggg

This is the Receda restaurant. They have another location as well.

We drove an 1 1/2hrs to try this place. I'll have to say it was worth the drive. I got the breakfast special. My tamale was so flavorful. Good sauce. Not dry at all. Perfect. There's lot of other menu items I will try next time. It's small but clean. There is handicap seating which we appreciated for our son. The service was excellent. They were pleasant and fast. We took home sweet tamales. The pineapple ones are delicious. I don't usually care for the sweet ones. I'd definitely have theirs again though. Give them a try!

    Wanna be Mexican Tamales

The Rajas tamale I got was supposed to be with cheese and rajas but instead I got just a hard brick tamale with a few dices of wanna be rajas and no Cheese at all; Rajas tamale is supposed to be made with Poblano Chile and Cheese also is supposed to be Fluffed, BUT the tamales from this place don't even represents the Mexican Culture food. I wouldn't even give this food to a homeless people cause they might get sick....Tables were dirty so I ordered my food to go.

    This is my order

I ordered a Cafe de Olla and was charged $4.25, but the menu board clearly lists 16oz for $3.12 and 20oz for $3.63. When I asked about the price difference, I was told they had "just changed the price today." If that's the case, the menu board should be updated before charging customers more. I actually really liked the coffee and the tamales and was planning on stopping by every day, but after the way this was handled especially when the manager walked away when I politely asked for her name, I won't be returning. Very disappointing customer service.

The food here was delicious! I ordered the chile relleno plate and everything had great flavor. My dad got the pork en salsa verde & his was good too! Every year they have their pumpkin spice tamale for October and I made sure to get one, it did not disappoint and was delicious! Lots of flavor and really soft, felt fresh. The customer service is good, they aren't the quickest with getting orders out, but its not too bad either. Worth the wait if the food is good. The place has some indoor seating, but only like 5 or 6 tables and luckily we went at a time that wasn't too packed.

I had highly expectations base on videos I saw on instagram I had four order 2 got out first , they forgot the other two , and the flautas they did on a hurry because they were burn and they were not good . My torta de tamal was not a toasted bread like in the videos only beans and cream no cheese and it was a disappointment some of the tamales were good but the rest of the food was very mediocre and the costumer service was like wherever actitud .

#4 One Tamale and 2 Soft Tacos combo
    Elle E.

I must say, I give this place a righteous 4 stars. The flavor of each and every piece that made this combo complete was pretty spot on. The tamales was the perfect size and moist, the beans perfectly seasoned, the rice was just delicious and the champurado I can almost feel abuelita's hug. The price is good but I wish I had more rice and beans. Everything we tried was delicious so far.

Another one of my favorite sayings is: don't take a Mexican girl to a Mexican restaurant--she'll never be happy. It's not really the restaurant's fault. My mom is just too good of a Mexican cook, so the bar is set ridiculously high. That being said, Sol y Luna does a lot of things right. The salsa here is amazing, and that's one of the biggest ways I judge a Mexican restaurant. If the salsa isn't good, we're already off to a bad start. Thankfully, that's not a problem here.I also love that they prepare the guacamole tableside. It's always fun to watch, and it doesn't get much fresher than that. Over the years, I've also run into quite a few famous people here, which adds a little extra excitement to the experience. Another thing I look for is mole.
