    Ultimate Hawaiian

This pizza doesn't get enough credit. It is sweet & savory and LOADED with toppings. My only complaint is that we ordered a medium pizza and got a small for my teenage son. He was ok with it so I'm not dropping a star. We get Athens a lot & this was a first time for any kind of mistake. We honestly didn't even tell the staff. No need to make a big deal out of one simple mistake. The pizza is ALWAYS freshly made, the staff is very friendly and even tho we grab it to go, the restaurant looks very clean. This pizza is my absolute favorite! Ham, pineapple, bacon, and cherries. Don't knock it till you try it!

    Ultimate Hawaiian

Athens pizzeria made us five pizzas, a mix of standard menu pie's as well as some custom made to order which were all ready in under 20 minutes. The quality is right up there and my family was very pleased for the most part.... WARNING!! We ordered the controversial Ultimate Hawaiian. We were all shocked to discover that glacier cherries had been included as a substitute for pineapple - a detail that absolutely should have been disclosed. Edit: I ate the whole pizza and am now championing the glacier cherry movement.

So I gave 3 stars based on the last three times eating here. Tonight I got a hamburger pizza and wasn't too impressed it had a so-so flavor and just wouldn't get it again. However their fried pickles are delicious I am usually not a fan of the fried pickle spears but these were really good. Then I got pizza another night and it was delicious had a lot of flavor and that's why I got it and tried the hamburger pizza.

Ordered pepperoni pizza with our order. Got it home and it was cheese only. Simple order. Included nice tip. Not cool.

Staff were amazing but I was just not a fan of the pizza crust. Generous amounts of topping, good flavor.

Great go-to place! Enjoy their loaded pizza and kids like their pepperoni & cheese pizza. Eat-in or carry-out.

Greasy, floppy pizza. You're better off going to the gas station for pizza than coming to this place.

Needless to say, we got seated right away. They seem to prefer reservations though. My favorite thing? The small rotating menu. It's nice to see them try to do only a few dishes really well. The service was good. The menu had some solid options. The food? We had the steak chili, shrimp allá vodka and the pizza with pumpkin. All the dishes were very delicious. But really, the shrimp allá vodka sauce was actually so good. We did not want the dish to end. Why the 4 stars? Our $27 shrimp dish only had 4 small shrimp in it. While it was very delicious we called the shrimp "gold" because there were so few and they were so good that it was like finding gold in your plate when the bite had it in it. The other piece, I read this in a review below, but decided to try it for myself. There seems to be a problem with their ventilation system in the kitchen. We were sitting at our table and suddenly it got Smokey but not like visible smoke but you felt it in your eyes. One of my eyes started watering and burning and then my son said his eyes were hurting even though I didn't say anything about it. It seems odd, but definitely impacted our dining experience. This place is a great little gem and we will come back when a new menu is around to try all the new in season dishes.

This place intrigued me with its ever rotating menu as they use what we fresh ingredients that may be available at the time. We began with salmon croquettes and carrot ginger soup-both were great but the soup was seriously out of this world-just the perfect amount of flavoring! My husband had the birria tacos and I had the risotto. Portions were large and reasonably priced. It really is a tiny saloon that probably can't fit more than 20 people or so unless you sat at the bar, but it was phenomenal. I do wish restaurants in the area offered dessert, but maybe there more of a big city thing?

Further reading boasts that they've received multiple awards and accolades, though the last one seems to be from 6 years ago. (As they say, time changes everything.) After walking around the beautiful grounds and event spaces, the young hostess who greeted us told us confidently that we would not be disappointed. Such hype and a charming setting could be a set up for disappointment, and it was. The friendly and attentive waiter tried to recite the specials but had to check his notes and wasn't certain about some ingredients or pricing. We chose the toast special "with house-made bread, cheese and seasonal berries". Immediately after ordering it, he asked if we wanted the bread service as well. We just ordered the toast . . . It was thin bread spread with bland cheese, a few macerated strawberries, a drizzle of balsamic and some greens on top (because you always put balsamic glaze and a few greens on top at an Italian-inspired restaurant?) Cliché, bland and no way those were local strawberries this early in the season. I like a simple starter but that depends on having flavor. (We had better avocado toast for breakfast at Joe's Flat Iron Cafe in Skowhegan a few days before.) Next we shared the Farmer's Salad, appetizingly and nostalgically served in a hand-turned wooden bowl. The crisp, fresh greens were radicchio, frissé, and romaine with house croutons, shaved Parmesan, pork belly pieces and a tasty dressing. Good effort overall but 1) what local farm produced those greens in early May ("ultimate farm to table"?), 2) I'm over trendy, greasy and sinewy pork belly replacing good, crispy bacon and 3) It was a simple salad I could have made at home. Where was the wow? We again went with the seasonal special for the main - house-made ravioli stuffed with house-made ricotta, lobster pieces and vegetables in an herb infused oil. Sounded great, looked good but another bland disappointment. The vegetable on top (garnish?) was roasted pea shoots that were dry and stringy. Sautéed cabbage was mixed with the raviolis. A flavorless filler. But kudos for including locally foraged fiddle heads to add seasonal color and interest. The pasta was well made but the cheese filling was just bland. As was the colored but flavorless herb oil. (And now I understand why Italian cooks say cheese doesn't go with seafood.) We asked for salt, got a strange look but they brought it. I have to give them credit for carefully crafting an uplifting and appealing setting. The gardens, event buildings, main house and dining spaces have an intoxicating atmosphere. And they clearly have their fans. (A woman at the next table who was eavesdropping on our conversation about the pros and cons of the food pointedly said to us as she left so that others could hear "I hope they got your meal right".) Bless her heart. Fine to support the home team (Maine plates on her car) but it's good theater more than great food. Overhyped and too expensive for what it is.
