To get to the point, this place is a hidden gem in Waterville. I came here for lunch last week when I was in town to visit the art museum. I selected Opa because of the other great reviews and I like Mediterranean food. I was greeted with a warm welcome as soon as I came in and sat at the bar. I initially got a Greek coffee which was made to order, hot and delicious. Ava, the bartender, was professional, knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. I couldn't have asked for more. I ordered the falafel dish and was quickly brought a plate of warm bread and olives in oil. Both were outstanding! Looking over the menu, I noticed they had a few Greek wines so I asked Ava about one interesting one that had hints of fig and tobacco. She immediately poured me a sample to taste and it was delicious so I got a glass. My meal came and it too was really outstanding. Every bite was delicious. To add to my experience, Ava put the Bob Ross channel on the TV above the bar so I got my art experience too. Later, the chef came out and talked to me for a while about travelling to Greece to really study the cuisine. He was clearly continuing to immerse himself in the culture to further perfect his already highly skilled craft. I would highly recommend Opa. What a wonderful total experience. read more

We first tried this place 2 yrs ago- it was good food. When I walked in I kept asking for a menu. I asked the bartender- a guy - another girl -- nothing. Then I reasked the bar tender and she was too busy - asked a girl again - never came back. Finally a customer grabbed one and handed it to me . We tried it yesterday- absolutely awful - sorry but -- the meat was super fatty - couldn't chew it - show it to my GREEK friend from Astoria Queens cause she couldn't understand- she agreed- way too fatty -- We dumped it - couldn't chew it. We also ordered spanakopita. We opened it up tonight -- Triangle shaped individual with JUST spinach -- the feta cheese was spread out UNDER these triangle spinach thing (4) super tiny like appetizers- not a meal - no salad either like really? This was a dinner? so very very upset over this food. You will say to me it's was Mothers Day - 9 tables isn't very busy for Mother's Day -- a regular dinner crowd. We expected when we drive 1 hr to this restaurant get great food at a place that almost has 5 stars. I can understand we aren't in Astoria Queens NY but come on - this wasn't hard at all. Opa needs to step it up. The food ranges from beyond excellent and totally delicious to eh. The drinks need to be taken up a notch and served in glasses bigger than a thimble. The service is exceptional and top notch. The kitchen crew is excellent. I think the issue is the menu. The ambiance is very very nice. The lamb is over priced and not great. The calamari is very good. The specials are usually very good. The olive oil and bread ranks among the best I've ever had. Roast lamb may be a good item to add. read more

For mains, we went with the Lamb Gyro, which came on fire-roasted pita with pork blade (an interesting twist), fresh veggies, and creamy tzatziki. Paired with Dodoni feta fries and a demi horiatiki salad, it was satisfying, though the fries could've been crispier--8/10. We also tried their Carbonara, made with angel hair pasta, smoked guanciale, mushrooms, and peas in a rich cream sauce. It was indulgent and flavorful, though super rich--definitely a dish you split or savor in small bites--8/10. To end the night on a sweet note, we had the Baklava, served with bourbon vanilla gelato. The shape was unique, but the flavors were on point--crispy phyllo, warm honey, spiced walnuts. It totally hit the spot--9/10. YES! I recommend Opa! We had takeout - and we all LOVED IT!!! Online Ordering was a breeze and everything was accurate! No mistakes! It's not inexpensive but it's totally worth it in my opinion. We had and loved the following items: Carbonera $24 Fresh angle hair pasta, smoked pancetta, cremini mushrooms, sweet peas, cream sauce. I added braised pork for an additional $8 - not sure it was worth it, however it was such a decadent, delicious meal. Loved every bite of it. Did a show at the opera house and I found this cute little restaurant. What a pleasant find! I ordered the half chicken and it was delicious. The chimichurri potatoes went really well with the chicken and the chicken was moist and had nice crispy skin. Usually don't order chicken but it was recommended so I went with it. This place isn't terrible, but it is surely not someplace. I would choose to go again. The two meals we had here were both basic and vastly over salted it almost seems that the chef only has two spices in the back salt and pepper. There's so much coarsely ground pepper in my wife's dish that she had to keep picking them out and putting them on the plate. It looked like gravel in her pasta that is not attention to detail that is not care that is un appetizing. Recent birthday celebration for a friend . First the restaurant is beautifully decorated. We went in the afternoon so they were setting up for dinner service. They came over and dropped off menus and cocktail selections. While they are pricey they pack a punch. The blackberry kiss was sweet and maybe tasted a little too good as I had two! My friends all sampled and ordered one as well. They brought us warm bread with an olive oil dip. My friends ordered beef meatballs with feta which smelled wonderful. There were enough left to take home. People started coming in and the restaurant has a homey vibe I could also recommend for a romantic dinner. Entrees are pricey but the quality is worth the price. What a find in Waterville, ME! New Years Eve without a reservation but gladly accommodated at the bar. Ordered off of the specials... Cocktail: Greek 25... Appetizer: 12 Damariscotta oysters with an amazing cucumber jalapeño mignonette... Main: black truffle scallops on risotto with mushrooms. Soooooo good! It was the bar tender's birthday, so they were in a good mood I felt comfortable at the bar since the tables were full of patrons, and I was a single. Was a bit pricey, but everything was perfect and delicious and properly prepared, so it was worth it. One mention... Make sure the oysters are shucked including being loosened from the shell because the restaurant doesn't have small oyster forks. read more

My curiosity about Greek foods was solved at OPA in Waterville. My friends and I visited OPA on Middle Street and were astounded by the presentation of their various choices on the menu. Our chosen appetizers were the meatball plate and a large plate of calamari. The calamari was the best I have ever eaten. The plate included a small dish of pineapple chutney. It pleased one of my guests so much, that she bought two additional orders to take home and share with friends. Our main course choices were : two lamb GYROs and a chicken Gyro. Thoroughly enjoyed by all. I would recommed OPA to anyone who likes a pleasant atmosphere of dining and enjoyable interaction with their waiter. We shall return in the near future to try some of their other presentations. read more

We recently discovered the Waterville Opera House, and this restaurant is just down the road, and was Greek, so we had to try it. I am SO glad we did. The atmosphere is modern, everything is very clean. Tables are a bit closer together than I prefer, so expect to meet your neighbors. The staff are terrific and very helpful. You will need the help to understand the specials, because there are categories of items on the menu that change regularly, which is great fun to try something new, but bummer when you loved the last one. The food is simply excellent. The dishes are creative and not always what you would expect, but the flavors are always well chosen and delicious. The wine list was also had good variety and was not as expensive as other restaurants of this caliber. Definitely give this place a try! read more

Fresh and delicious food served here! I found myself in Waterville for the night, and after reading about Opa on yelp, I decided to go try it for myself. The restaurant is lovely, comfortable seating and it was even decorated very sweetly for Valentine's Day. I tried a few things from the menu-the dip trio and the chicken souvlaki. The dips were all so fresh and delicious. My favorite was the hummus! The chicken souvlaki is a pretty large portion and I wasn't able to finish it. I loved how it came with a salad and some roasted vegetables. My friend ordered a side salad and said it was great too. We had more than enough food to share + leftovers. Overall-5 star place! The food was delicious and all the servers were so kind. I hope to come back to Waterville and try this place again. read more

Ordered the caprese salad with grilled halloumi, which was burnt to a crisp. Calamari was all breading and extremely disappointing. We ordered two of the weekly chefs specials and could not finish either. The Chilean Sea bass was so overcooked it was mushy, the rice with it was a mix of underdone and overcooked. The zucchini and summer squash seemed to be a day old. The Scallops and pasta dish was overly spiced, which would have been fine if it were made aware on the menu, the scallops themselves were overcooked and burnt, as well as the entire dish soaking in oil. Upon leaving both of us immediately felt sick to our stomachs and we did not even finish the entrees. Hoping this was just a bad experience as we were excited to try this place since we have heard nothing but positive reviews prior. We came here on our way to Boston from Maine. It was a great reprieve from our hot car ride. My friend and I both had the vine leaves with hummus and the aubergine dip. My other friend had the Greek salad with chicken and my husband had the lamb pie. I usually love Greek food but this unfortunately wasn't great.
