Opa Restaurant - Waterville, ME 139 Main St, Waterville, ME 04901 Tucked into downtown Waterville, Opa Restaurant delivers a surprising and unforgettable Greek dining experience in the heart of Maine. From fresh mezze to hearty entrees and indulgent desserts, every dish brought something exciting to the table. We started with the Hellenika Caprese, a Greek twist on the Italian classic. With grilled halloumi cheese, grape tomatoes, pesto alla genovese, and a tangy balsamic glaze, it was light, flavorful, and super shareable--10/10. A perfect start. Next came the Spanakopita (Spinach Pie), and wow--this might've been one of the best spanakopitas I've ever had. The phyllo was crisp and golden, with just the right amount of feta, mint, dill, and scallions inside. Not too big, not too greasy--10/10. No visit to a Greek restaurant is complete without Tzatziki, and Opa's version stood out with its bright lemony kick. It was refreshing and much less oily than other versions I've tried, served with pita bread--8/10. For mains, we went with the Lamb Gyro, which came on fire-roasted pita with pork blade (an interesting twist), fresh veggies, and creamy tzatziki. Paired with Dodoni feta fries and a demi horiatiki salad, it was satisfying, though the fries could've been crispier--8/10. We also tried their Carbonara, made with angel hair pasta, smoked guanciale, mushrooms, and peas in a rich cream sauce. It was indulgent and flavorful, though super rich--definitely a dish you split or savor in small bites--8/10. To end the night on a sweet note, we had the Baklava, served with bourbon vanilla gelato. The shape was unique, but the flavors were on point--crispy phyllo, warm honey, spiced walnuts. It totally hit the spot--9/10. Final Thoughts: Vibe: 8/10 - Great for families, date night, or large groups Food: 9/10 - So many standouts, especially the spanakopita and salad Affordability: 6/10 - Slightly pricey, but worth it for the quality Verdict: If you're craving authentic and flavorful Greek food in Maine, Opa Restaurant is absolutely worth the trip.

    Carbonara! Soooo good!!!

YES! I recommend Opa! We had takeout - and we all LOVED IT!!! Online Ordering was a breeze and everything was accurate! No mistakes! It's not inexpensive but it's totally worth it in my opinion. We had and loved the following items: Carbonera $24 Fresh angle hair pasta, smoked pancetta, cremini mushrooms, sweet peas, cream sauce. I added braised pork for an additional $8 - not sure it was worth it, however it was such a decadent, delicious meal. Loved every bite of it. I even shared with others, because they had to know how delicious it was! Pastitsio $24.00 Oven baked, fresh bucatini pasta, beef bolognese, béchamel - YUM!!! Best we have ever had! EVER! I can't wait eat their food again!!!

Amazing lamb dish. Sliced lamb with spinach, tomatoes, cream sauce on angel hair pasta. Great service! Beautiful day so we ate on the front patio. The service was great. Really a wonderful lunch.

Top notch restaurant in Waterville. They had an extensive menu of Greek foods and wine and several selections for those who don't want Greek food or wine. I over bordered because everything looked so good. Each of the dishes was exceptional. There's also an excellent cocktail menu. I will be back.

Did a show at the opera house and I found this cute little restaurant. What a pleasant find! I ordered the half chicken and it was delicious. The chimichurri potatoes went really well with the chicken and the chicken was moist and had nice crispy skin. Usually don't order chicken but it was recommended so I went with it. The stars of the restaurant was the service.from the young lady that seated me to the bartender and the other waitress who didn't even serve me everyone was so sweet and just made the experience super welcoming. I appreciate you ladies!

Lamb pasta, and a soup special I don't remember the name of, but my husband ordered a second bowl it was so good.

We've gone here a handful of times and every time it's wonderful. They have a relaxing environment, attentive and friendly servers, and of course, great food. I look forward to going every time. I strongly recommend the lamb pasta when available!

Had lunch with my husband today just as they opened. Started with a spicy margaritas and a bottled Heineken. The margarita was soooo tasty I had another!! The calamari was just right and our meals were fantastic. Definitely coming back to try the rest of the menu. Definitely pricey but very tasty.

Further reading boasts that they've received multiple awards and accolades, though the last one seems to be from 6 years ago. (As they say, time changes everything.) After walking around the beautiful grounds and event spaces, the young hostess who greeted us told us confidently that we would not be disappointed. Such hype and a charming setting could be a set up for disappointment, and it was. The friendly and attentive waiter tried to recite the specials but had to check his notes and wasn't certain about some ingredients or pricing. We chose the toast special "with house-made bread, cheese and seasonal berries". Immediately after ordering it, he asked if we wanted the bread service as well. We just ordered the toast . . . It was thin bread spread with bland cheese, a few macerated strawberries, a drizzle of balsamic and some greens on top (because you always put balsamic glaze and a few greens on top at an Italian-inspired restaurant?) Cliché, bland and no way those were local strawberries this early in the season. I like a simple starter but that depends on having flavor. (We had better avocado toast for breakfast at Joe's Flat Iron Cafe in Skowhegan a few days before.) Next we shared the Farmer's Salad, appetizingly and nostalgically served in a hand-turned wooden bowl. The crisp, fresh greens were radicchio, frissé, and romaine with house croutons, shaved Parmesan, pork belly pieces and a tasty dressing. Good effort overall but 1) what local farm produced those greens in early May ("ultimate farm to table"?), 2) I'm over trendy, greasy and sinewy pork belly replacing good, crispy bacon and 3) It was a simple salad I could have made at home. Where was the wow? We again went with the seasonal special for the main - house-made ravioli stuffed with house-made ricotta, lobster pieces and vegetables in an herb infused oil. Sounded great, looked good but another bland disappointment. The vegetable on top (garnish?) was roasted pea shoots that were dry and stringy. Sautéed cabbage was mixed with the raviolis. A flavorless filler. But kudos for including locally foraged fiddle heads to add seasonal color and interest. The pasta was well made but the cheese filling was just bland. As was the colored but flavorless herb oil. (And now I understand why Italian cooks say cheese doesn't go with seafood.) We asked for salt, got a strange look but they brought it. I have to give them credit for carefully crafting an uplifting and appealing setting. The gardens, event buildings, main house and dining spaces have an intoxicating atmosphere. And they clearly have their fans. (A woman at the next table who was eavesdropping on our conversation about the pros and cons of the food pointedly said to us as she left so that others could hear "I hope they got your meal right".) Bless her heart. Fine to support the home team (Maine plates on her car) but it's good theater more than great food. Overhyped and too expensive for what it is.

But seriously, if you're a hummus fan, do yourself a favor and order it. My wife and I visited for an employee outing, and we were impressed. The staff was friendly and efficient, quickly taking and delivering drink orders. Our group ordered several appetizers, all of which arrived in a reasonable time. I sampled a few chicken wings, but I mainly focused on my pita and hummus plate--and I'm glad I did! Having spent time in the Middle East, I know what freshly made hummus tastes like, and this did not disappoint. It was served with carrots, Greek black olives, tomatoes, cucumbers, and a drizzle of Greek olive oil seasoned with pepper. The pepper-infused olive oil added a whole new depth of flavor--something I'd never had before. After one bite, my wife and a few of her coworkers instantly regretted not ordering it themselves. Being the generous guy I am, I shared a little... but not too much! The prices were reasonable, and the quality matched what you'd expect from a great Greek restaurant. I'd love to go back and explore more of the menu, though due to dietary restrictions, I won't be able to indulge in the pizza that everyone raves about. But if it's anything like the hummus, I can only imagine how good it must be!
