Dont trust these guys to be honest about picking up bulk items from your curb. I called ahead of time and had my items out for pick up and they showed up with a smaller truck than they needed and didn't pick anything up. Their driver said the stuff had hazardous materials in it so they couldn't take it. What they called hazardous materials was just hard form siding from a spa. read more

Almost 2 months since I requested an extra green trash can be picked up and returned. Customer service on the phone politely informs me that it is scheduled for the next pick up day. After consistently following their instructions each week, I call to report that the trash can still has not been picked up. "It has been scheduled for the following week." After several calls, I inform the CSR that i'm always being given the same answer but the trash can hasn't been picked up. Finally, CSR calls and leaves a message that the trash can will be picked up tomorrow, (the day after pick up day, still no pick up.) I'd gladly pay a little more for the waste management company we had before Athens Services took over. read more

I can not believe they have an exclusive with the City of Wilmington and i am FORCED to pay their outrages prices. Whether it be a request for clean-up of illegal dumping or dealing with their customer service team, you're sure to be disappointed with this company that apparently does not care about its clients at all. When we had 3 separate incidents of illegal dumping across the street from our business, Athens did not clean up the mess until I complained to the Pomona City Works Dept. each time. They have a monopoly for trash service in the Pomona area, so we have no choice for regular trash service. They also have the contract for illegal dumping clean-up. read more

The most expensive roll off 40 yds service we ever paid. Base rate $1550 for a 40 yds bin. Upon pickup they bumped bill up $850 Total $2400 Ridiculous and they won't stop pushing to get paid. It's extremely sad when a company will not take the incentive to do the right thing. They service some apartment buildings in the area and there is a lot of graffiti on some of them. I called the company to either paint or exchange of these containers. Their reply was the owner or manager has to call it in and there's a fee for that. It seems like everything evolves around a dollar with this company. Take a look at the picture and notice how much pride they take! A good company would just take care of this! Their drivers who pick up the trash should report this and it should be done in a professional manner. As an update Paola took care of this but also informed me that the person who owns the property where the container is must call it in. I am appreciative that they sent someone out to paint over the graffiti. I saw him doing it later in the day. It would be literally impossible for every owner or management company to keep track of this. In my opinion this should be taken care of by the company on their own every time they pick up the trash it should be reported by their drivers if there is graffiti on them. read more

So surprised at the poor reviews. Those who have given Athens a poor review have never had to deal with other refuse services like CR and R. The Athens staff is courteous and helpful. They have online service requests. Try calling CR and R and wait 2 hours to get to speak to someone and you will be thankful you have Athens. One star removed only because our bulky pick up scheduled did not happen the day requested and it was delayed. They apologetic and did not make any excuses for the error. read more

I said I'd hold off a week before 'trash talking' Athens, but my Harrison bin was taken away last week and I was left with no replacement. First call to Athens could not get through to Customer Service, never got a call back after leaving message. Next did get through to a representative who told me they would expedite the delivery of a trash bin. Another week goes by, I notice my neighbors are missing in some cases ALL their bins. I reach customer service again by chat and their current solution is to generate an email to someone internal to find out what's going on. I notice some of the neighbors are just putting trash in plastic bags on the curb now. I'd like to avoid getting to that point. What a cluster. read more

It is a scam that the trash company has a monopoly collecting trash in the City of Los Angeles and can charge outrageous sums of money and there is nothing anyone can do about it. The city council should be ashamed that they got paid off by the trash companies and created a monopoly instead of creating competition to lower the price to the people of Los Angeles. read more

Athens, while not a perfect operation, is clearly not as bad as many here have stated. Trash collection is a complicated endeavor, not easily accomplished without the cooperation of the consumer in following directions towards that achievement (having thier trash picked up). Athens provides service to my building. There are times where misakes are made. Clearly, like with any big company, there are some bad apples (bad employees) in the bunch. But overall, their good people who work there. There's no question in my mind that Athens is a quality organization. In a tough environment (picking up trash) it will always be difficult to please all at a high quality level. read more

Scheduled a bulk waste pickup online and received confirmation that it would be picked up on specific date. That did not happen. Called the customer service line and was told that the driver who was assigned had checked the pickup of my bulk waste was completed (which was a lie)! Was assured that my complaint has been elevated and it would be picked up on the second day. It wasn't done again while my bulk waste sits by my curb. Had to publish my complaint in public social media to get attention before they came over on the 3rd day to clear my bulk waste! Highly inefficient and not trustworthy company to deal with. Renting a roll off dumpster was easy to setup. The Athens agent quoted the rates and condition very clearly (and emailed the same). The dumpster arrived on the day it was scheduled to arrive and placed exactly where we wanted it placed (on the street in front of our house). We filled it with cut hedges and trees in 1 day so I called for a pickup (even though you get to keep the dumpster for 7-days at no additional charge) and they offered to pick it up that day but I said 'no, tomorrow is fine'...which gave my us even more time to cut a few more branches of the hedges and squeeze that in. it was a full 40-foot dumpster of cuttings and it still was less that a ton so we paid the minimum weight fee. altogether for drop off, weight fee and pickup it was about $300.
