The service is great most times, but it seems they get a little rushed and miss closing the container bins. Not a big thing if it is not raining. I have had to ask that the bins be closed a couple of times. Not to give then an out, but if there is not enough people with the collection truck and the process is all from inside the truck, the lid being closed is a 50/50 proposition. So logistically speaking, there needs to be some one on the ground to insure the bins are closed. Even if it is not raining when the is collected, there no grantee mother nature change things up and turn on her water works later in the day. read more

Worst trash company. Living in Palos Verdes, they pick up trash in individual pickup trucks. There limit is 60lbs. My trash cans weigh anywhere from 30 to 45 pounds in the continuously decide not to pick them up leaving a note on that they are too heavy. I have to call every week to get somebody back here to pick up my trash very lazy trash workers. read more

I am not the first person to say this "has a monopoly otherwise they'd be out of business" and I couldn't have said it better myself. I own apartments all throughout LA County, and by far the worse trash pick up service is Athens compared to the others. Their service is horrible. Unfortunately, the stupid city has made it impossible to change providers. Obviously, there were some shady dealings that happened between the trash companies and the city to give them a monopoly. read more

Our city recently switched over to Athens Services and my first communication from them is today, to tell me I'm past due with a message that reads "72 HOUR STOP SERVICE NOTICE" (see picture). This is terrible! You got the Pomona job and are overcharging, under servicing, miscommunicating, and leaving a -Trail of Tears in the streets every week. I can't imagine that you have any pride in your work. Boo! That reminds me - Halloween coming up in my 3500 kid street. Put out some extra trash barrels so that those of us who put on Halloween every year (our street is blocked to traffic) don't have to spend more than a couple of hours cleaning. Athens is such a great company, I think these low reviews have never lived in city of LA and seen how bad trash pick up can be! I had an issue with a bulky item pick up and every time I spoke with someone at Athens, they were kind and personable and treated me like a valued customer. specifically, Steve, the bulky items manager took the issue into his own hands and promised to make it right. I never expected a personal callback from him but he gave me his word and sure enough, all was handled immediately. i am so happy with his service and everyone I've dealt with at Athens. thank you read more

Be very careful signing a contract with Athens. The contract likely has an evergreen provision that is only explained in very fine print and on the back of the document. If you're not careful, you will be signing up for 5 years and subject to a "fee" of six months of service for early termination. read more

If I could give it no stars I would. This company is rude and unprofessional. They do not pick up trash and yet I have to pay for a job that was not performed. My trash driver picked both of my neighbors trash but not mine. He had been awful, creepy, and vindictive since day one 2015. Now 2024 he i still remains hostile. I tried submitting a request for bulk item pickup on both of their websites (their landing page and the one specific for my city) and neither went through apparently! It even said "Submitted"! Day of my trash pickup and my bulky items were still not picked up. I called and they confirmed that did not get my request. I would have to wait until the next pickup, in a week. Don't waste your time with their online portal, it's junk. Call them and confirm ALL the details. read more

I called about an illegal dump . Someone just left a toilet on the side of my building. I called Athens and they sent someone out to pick it up the next day. The girl who I spoke to Alexis, was extremely helpful and nice. She went above and beyond to look up the address so she would know exactly where to send someone to get it. My family has Athens Services in 3 Cities (Whittier, Monrovia and Rowland Heights). The service is exceptional in all 3 Cities and the drivers are all very friendly and professional. The trucks look so clean and the drivers are very efficient. I used the online request and also called the office to request a bulky item and a trash can exchange. Both times it was very easy to use and efficient. It is great that Athens Services is a family owned business and the Company is involved in the community a lot. Athens provides service for an apartment building that I own in Los Angeles. Twice now I have scheduled an appointment to meet a representative at my property to discuss dumpster locations, both times they did not show up. They give you a time from 6am to 6pm, which is inconvenient as it is, but to then not call or show up is unprofessional. If I wasn't forced by the city of LA to use them I would find a new provider. read more

I'm a playa del Rey resident and I had noted the trucks driving around recklessly at high speeds and even in the parking garages. This is just the beginning of this review. On nov 27 th I was sitting in my PARKED car when the driver of the truck pulled out and turned into my car and ripped off the bumper. Accidents happen however this is just the begging of being abused by this company. After searching for their insurance information and registration which was not in the vehicle I was eventually in contact with Mariangela Caraballo director of Claims whom is easily the most unprofessional and condescending person I can recall speaking with in I don't know how long. She told me," the damage wasn't that bad, and that she was letting me know how this is going to work". I have been without a car since then because she wanted information from me that really she didn't need. This story is much longer but the point is they are reckless and are really good at avoiding responsibility. They have various barriers so you can't even talk to their insurance directly in order to make a claim. Their trucks show previous damage from accidents and are reckless. Beware of doing business with these people, and I hope you are not victim to them or having to ever deal with mariangela. read more

They are the moffia and customer service is hell! We own Appartments and get rents by the 5th of each month. They charge 30 days before service is rendered. Lagit company will charge after the service is Compleat! Not before they even pick up the first trash can. They hold customers hostage. read more

I can see why they have 2 1/2 stars. Customer Service is horrible. No communication at all between the driver, dispatch and customer service to the customer that they will not pick up your bulky item because he's too damn lazy to walk literally behind my trash cans and grab them. Also, when I asked the rep why didn't he just knock on my door and let me know. It would have only been a few minutes to come out and move them. Or why didn't someone call me? The ENTIRE company represents EXACTLY what they are TRASH. The trash trucks leaves trash all over the place and doesn't have an approximately set time on pickup day. They should have gotten together with the City of Pomona about how they scheduled their routes. The street sweeping services are deplorable, they leave all types of trash along the curb as well in the street. THE CUSTOMER SERVICE is HIDEOUS. These people DO NOT LISTEN. They are incapable of answering a SIMPLE QUESTION. If you request to speak to a supervisor, you can't get them on the phone and if you leave a message THEY WILL NOT CALL YOU BACK!! I wished I had my notes with me so I can list EVERYONE'S name that I had an encounter with over the phone. I remember the last two people that talked to over the phone. These ladies are in the collection department, MERCEDES.... is a HORRIBLE PERSON, she is rude, doesn't listen, she doesn't know how to have a two-way conversation, she will over talk you while you're in mid-sentence. She talks A LOT and the word salad that she use doesn't have anything to do with the subject. Darlene (supervisor) didn't return my call, I had to call back. She was very nice, HOWEVER, the so-called clarification email that she sent didn't state nothing that we discussed because ATHENS is sending over inaccurate information to the city of pomona about the status of an account which is triggering a threat of a lien on the property. Athens definitely paid someone at the city of pomona to seal the deal for this contract because I have NEVER seen such sloppy work done by any trash service. It would have been nice if tge City of Pomona would have went with Burrtec or Waste Management. I have dealt with both of those services and they both delivered top notch services across the board. Been using Athens for two years in Lomita, and their service has been amazing. We've scheduled multiple bulky item picks, never had an issue. Customer service has also been very responsive. They do start the service very early in the morning which may explain for customers not getting their bins picked up. read more

The worst service ever. I call at least 12 or more times a year for failure to pick up our trash or green bin. In May 2024 alone they missed 3 pickups. We pay at least $3500.00 or more a month. I should never have to call. We never had a choice in vendors. This should be illegal. Shame on whomever allowed only 7 companies to rule the trash world.
