Therapy is a small and rather cutesy boutique, but I could not help but feel most of the items were something you'd find at H&M on a good day (You know, when they aren't peddling that terrible 80's hooker look they've been peddling for far too long). The style here is predominantly hipster meets vintage meets eurotrash. However, there are definitely some very cute unique items tucked in different places. I can't help feeling if this place is to survive it better find a more unique fashion niche. Prices are average boutique prices ($80-140 for most items). Ladies: Expect to be trying things on more than usual, as some designers use non-standard sizes (like women's clothes have anything near sizing standards to begin with!), the owner informed me that she is eager to serve women of all body types. Boys: There's not much shelf space here for boys and for the most part what's out is a bit boorish for my tastes with a handful of very generic clubbing shirts. I missed it my first time through but this store carries some lovely Tom Baker items for men, including suits. For those of you who don't know Tom Baker, his suits were featured prominently in Casino Royale by James Bond himself and are some of the sexiest and best designed suits in the market. They are also criminally hard to find in this country and up until now I thought unavailable in Boston. The owner describes the process as semi-custom, wherein you choose your style, fabric, then get the suit fitted and professionally tailored to you when it arrives. The whole shebang costs under $700, which given the quality of these suits, the all-inclusive service, and the horrific exchange rate is an incredible bargain! This is a suit that will last you for life and be timelessly hawt. To match your top-notch suit there is a small hidden cache of fashionable ties. While a small collection, if I had the money I would have bought them all as they were suberb specimens. The owner is also a Yelper so you know she's good people!

I was in Boston recently and decided to hit up Reformation since I'd only ever shopped from them online and never had a chance to go to a store and actually try the clothes on ahead of making a purchase. There were a few dresses online that I had my eye on, and I was excited to try them on. As I entered I felt a bit like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. There weren't many customers in the shop (weekday), but I felt totally lost because it looked like they only had one of each item on the racks. (Side-note: the tiniest sizes, of course.) I looked totally bewildered, but no one working there came up to me, they were huddled around the check-out counter chatting and occasionally looking over at me. Eventually, I approached them and asked them the process to try things on since there was only one size of each item. One of them glanced over my shoulder at the screen on the wall and said I just pick out the item on the screen and request my size and someone would pull the item from the back and start a fitting room. I've never experienced this process at a store before, and am down for innovation, but there were no smiles, no signs explaining the process, nothing that felt inclusive or friendly at all. Besides that, they only seemed to have the most recent collection, and were missing tried and true staple dresses that are popular on the website. Ultimately, I tried on one dress in a couple of sizes and left without anything. The experience was pretty uncomfortable and uninviting, so it is extremely unlikely I'll return. I'll just shop their online store and cross my fingers it fits...

Taylor was our HERO today. We went to the Boston Children's Museum today and our 3 year old had…read morenot one, but two accident in quick succession. Needless to say for a kid that has never really had an accident, this was going to ruin our day. Can you imagine a children's museum that doesn't have a gift shop. Worse yet, there really weren't any places we could get stuff to get him cleaned up. My wife yelped for Kid's clothing and LL Bean turned up not too far away. We walked over not sure if we would find anything. Taylor welcomed us and asked us how our day was going. I shared our situation while my wife rolled her eyes at me. I mean why skimp on details when you need an outfit fast and the sizing isn't what uou are used. Taylor found us several options of shirts. My son chose the purple t-shirt. She went back and found more pant sizes. He left in a pair of blue waterproof pants to go with his purple shirt. Taylor even told us that oddly thus happens and we aren't the first family looking for kids clothing after visiting the museum. Alas they don't sell underwear but it slvaged our afternoon and was enough to get him down for a nap. I consider that a WIN with a capital W. My wife found some traveling clothing as well because whe wanted to support the store as well. I really wanted to buy stuff as well but I run way too hot and it is September. The summer stuff is gone but there is always their website.

It was at this point that I noticed I had accidentally got the wrong size in these pants I got, and I was about to just switch them out real quick before heading to the checkout. Then over the intercom thing they said "it is now 20 minutes until closing time, so please make your final selections and head to the checkout", and I was like ok perfect timing I just need to switch this and it's right here. But when I turned around to face the rack with the pants, there was a bunch of security guys kinda pushing everyone out. I was right in front of the rack, so I asked the guy who was blocking me from it if I could just switch out the size really quickly, and he firmly said "No. We're closed. You need to go to the checkout." and continued backing me up. So I was like "really I can't just switch it even tho it's right there?", and he said no so I gave up and went downstairs. Now, I do understand that places like to start closing up a little before their closing time so they can leave at that time, but there was 20 whole minutes until the store closed, there was a line at the checkout to wait in, and I just needed to simply switch the item for the correct size. Keep in mind, the rack with the pants was legitimately no more than 2 feet behind him. I felt like it was just so rude and unnecessary for him to not let me. Like why did it matter if I waited in line for 5 minutes, or switched out the pants I needed and waited in the line for 4 1/2 minutes ??? I could have easily switched them and then just been the last person in line, but he just didn't let me!! It was so disappointing!!! I ended up not getting the pants because they were a size too small so I just had to let the check out person take them. :((( Why couldn't I even say ok then I don't want them, and put them back on the rack behind him?? Idk I really don't get it. Then I came back when I was in the area about a month later and all of those pants were completely gone. I saw so many of the same items that were there before, but not the pants I wanted so badly. I can't find them online, or literally anywhere else on earth, which makes no sense. The staff had no idea why this was either/where they went. It's just so upsetting knowing I could have had these one of a kind (apparently?), cutest pants ever, but I can't all because this random security guy wanted to go home 10 seconds sooner. It's giving: how dare you make a mistake, get out! I'm now going to cry myself to sleep over these pants; thank you for listening to my rant.

This Alo location is in the Seaport area of Boston. It is well organized and clean. I was…read morepleasantly surprised on how nice and helpful the workers were here. They greeted you when you walked in and out of the store and were there to help you find a style and a size. And the person who rang me up was also very nice. Walked out of here with two shorts and was happy when I left to have had wonderful customer service, found shorts and got to use gift cards. All in all it was a win win for me here at the store.

Alo in Seaport was the first location to arrive in Boston!…read moreGrowing up, being obsessed with athleisure brands, I remember I always had to order Alo apparel via online or if I happened to be in NYC, I would shop in person there but for years, we did not have an Alo around. But anyways, very grateful that we have a couple locations now & the brand is more accessible. Came into this Seaport location recently to make an exchange for a pair of leggings I had purchased from the Chestnut Hill store. LUCKILY, the Alo app is pretty accurate, which stated that Alo Seaport had the size I needed, & I was able to have a successful exchange that day! Very quick & easy exchange, so no complaints here. Parking: good luck! Sometimes there's meter street parking available but I usually just park in a garage to avoid the hassle of driving around in circles.
