I had the best experience at this location! I needed physical therapy after I had surgery for a fully ruptured hamstring (water skiing accident, not a fun time). I was referred to Russell at Athletico in Bucktown, and he got me into his schedule immediately. I was in physical therapy for 6 months for my injury and the entire team was there for me every step of the way. Russell was extremely knowledgeable and his expertise was essential in my recovery. He took into consideration all of my goals for recovery (I'm pretty active and wanted a quick turnaround) and because of him I was able to get back to normal activities as quickly as possible. He was also very understanding and helpful when I had work conflicts and had to reschedule appointments week to week. Some of his teammates stepped in to continue my therapy when he was unavailable, and they did a great job exchanging notes to make sure my recovery plan didn't get impacted. Thanks to this team, I went from having a major surgery in July to snowboarding in the Rocky Mountains in January. I've had physical therapy at other locations for surgery recovery and sports related injuries in the past, and this was by far the best treatment I've received. I'll start this review out by offering a few tips to brand new patients. I highly recommend wearing something comfortable to your first appointment. I always wear workout gear when I go. Also, I'm almost certain that your first diagnostic visit is free. I've been going to this location for over 3 months now. The staff really seems to enjoy their work and helping people get better. They seem to get along really well with one another and there's a lot of joking around. My appointments have almost always started on time, so you don't have to worry about them running late here. My only complaint is this. Some days when I go in my designated therapist will be working with 3 patients at once. It's not too big of a deal since I know I can ask what moves I should be doing next, number of reps and sets, etc. So, sometimes this place is extremely busy and all of the tables are taken. There's a shortage of good physical therapists and at times it's apparent at this Athletico location. If you'd like more one on one time with your therapist and would like to avoid the crowding, this next tip is for you. This location is usually really slow on Wednesday mornings and Friday afternoons. My therapist is really trying to get me better, but my hip tendinitis isn't cooperating. However, I can tell that my therapist is just as frustrated about this as I am. It will get better, and Athletico is essential in helping me get there....it will only take longer than the original estimate. If you choose this location you will be in good hands. read more

The bottom line - the therapy is not great, it's expensive and the billing system is not direct. 4 Sessions = $865.0, $472.00 billed to me. Background: I went in for PT for some knee/hip stuff about a year ago. The intake session was great; I left feeling jazzed about recovery and a good working relationship with the therapist. I had a prescription for physical therapy. As I set up my account and sessions, I was explicit about my desire to minimize cost. Repeatedly, I asked staff at the front desk to confirm each session would cost my co-pay. The response - always a yes... yes... maybe $20 extra here and there. (I had BCBS, IL PPO; the deduction had been met.) The sessions were meh. It seems that the therapists, who really are talented, are pushed to have multiple patients rotating at the same time to maximize billing. But on the slow days, they may just watch tv while you work on sets. I bugged the staff almost every session to get the sense of my account total, which just resulted in reassurances delivered with an irked tone. I was getting more out of yoga, which didn't require a co-pay, so I stopped going. Then, and only then, the bill came. Session 1: $150.00 - Covered: $63.00; Billed to Me: $87.00 Session 2: $195.00 - Covered: $90.00; Billed to Me: $105.00 Session 3: $260.00 - Covered: $120.00; Billed to Me: $140.00 Session 4: $260.00 - Covered: $120.00; Billed to Me: $140.00 Total Cost: $865.00 - Covered: $393.00; Billed to Me: $472.00 A total of $472.00 sure didn't seem like my co-pay multiplied by four. So, I called the AthletiCo Corporate Office and talked with some billing contacts. Then, per their request, I wrote it all up and faxed over the information. It seemed that we'd come to a reasonable resolution. No word back (except duplicate bills). This is when it gets good. Apparently, AthletiCo has farmed out the bill to I.C. Systems Collection Agency. Yikes. Google those guys. Class acts. They call all of the time. Different numbers. Weird times. Gross. I am still trying to communicate AthletiCo directly. This is not a fun review. Who really is psyched to post about collection calls? Sadly, my experience with AthletiCo is not unique. When you are deciding where to go for your PT - you know, the normal cost-benefit analysis - I hope this is helpful. Even if covered by your insurance, each session may cost you $100+ per session. You will not get individualized, thoughtful care. AthletiCo. may be the most paperwork heavy option. Even going out of network would have been cheaper and less hassle. And, I'd count the actual PT has a fail. (Side note - given the type of business ethics AthletiCo is rocking, it makes me a little glum when I see their logo when at U.S. Cellular Field.) Quick update to the review (same sessions... same review & it's an ongoing thing) - 1. Athletico's regional rep contacted me after reading the Yelp review and has been open, nice and really helpful about resolving the issues. 2. Per those conversations, Athletico uses Transworld Systems for collections. (Still a yikes! company worth a Google or two.) And, per those conversations, Trans only sends mail - no calls. (Hmm?) 3. There was a big mix up in paperwork - I'm keeping faith that it all gets resolved. read more

The location is great and I went here on a recommendation from my Ortho doctor for some quick therapy before a race. I arrived at my scheduled time, yet waited about 20 minutes before seeing the therapist. I had provided them with my insurance information and I knew I had full coverage before I had my appointment. The therapist must have been tired, since she yawned about 10 times during my session. She had multiple clients at once and looked around the room for most of my time there. I understand we all have our days, but it was not a very good way of making a great first impression. She did an initial assessment, strength test, 5-min massage on my IT band, and showed me some exercises. I was there for about an hour, with about 45 minutes of actual services. I never got clear directions as to whether or not I should come back again for another session. My script was for 2-3 weeks, but I wasn't going to use it unless I needed to. The race went great and I didn't need to come back. I get the bill a month later....$400! For 45-60 minutes of service?? $77 for a service that lasted 5 minutes? Call me naive, I understand most health care providers overcharge for services, but I thought this was outrageous. This is why healthcare costs are insane in this country. When I called the Athletico office to inquire about my bill and provide my opinion on these charges, I pretty much got a "yeah, we know" answer. read more

Alas, as much as I hate to be able to review a physical therapist, the time is nigh. So I took a major fall on my keester a few weeks back and have been slowly unraveling ever since. Bruises, limping, and low back pain were nothing compared to the white hot gnarliness that was the back of my right thigh from upper cheek to knee. Throbbing, relentless, constant. YEEEEEEEOOOOOOW. I finally made it over the doc, who gave me a script for physical therapy and said, "Get thee to Althetico." This is the third time I have been welcomed into the Athletico bosom, and as usual I am very impressed with staff, treatment, and facilities. I was greeted immediately by an organized and friendly front desk staff who already had gathered information about my insurance, so now I know exactly what I am responsibile for and what I am not. It's a huge relief to have someone else wade through that madness so I can concentrate on recovery, not co-pays. Mary, my awesome PT, gave me an in-depth intake analysis, offered a diagnosis immediately, and gave me very clear advice about what to do and what not do to. She made me feel hopeful that this is a temporary situation and I would soon be pain free, effortlessly skipping though fields of flowers like a little girl. Well, maybe not exactly, but you get my drift. I would not wish physical problems like these on my worst enemy, but if you need great PT in he Bucktown area, I would send anyone here without hesitation. read more

These people are completely incompetent. In retrospect, why did I think it was a good idea to go to a chain for PT? After all, if everyone gets better, there goes their profit. My boss used to go there until the Dr discovered they were giving her 100% wrong treatment and forbade her to return. I tried to think that was an isolated incident but... In short, they managed to screw up every single appointment I made. Scheduling AM and not PM, being late to get started, making me ride a stationary bike WHEN I RODE A BIKE THERE, and the last straw was today. I left work early to make my appointment. I show up, and they tell me it's actually for half an hour later, when I have the date and time written down from their own receptionist. Then the man working behind the counter decided to fight me about refunding my copay, and refused to even call the credit card company to void the transaction. I wrote a long email to the manager but come on, nobody wants to read all that. If you value your time and your health, go somewhere else. If you're a bored housewife with nothing better to do, have at it. read more

For about 8 months I had been dealing with chronic and excruciating pain in my knee. I tried every suggestion I found online (rest, stretch, ice, heat, even changed my diet...) but finally met with a doctor. An MRI found that I have an extreme case of tendinitis. I've been going to this Athletico for about 2 months to treat the tendinitis. The staff, primarily Amy Malone, has been able to almost completely get rid of the pain. In addition to improving my physical state, they have also taught me how to change my running form to reduce impact, the types of stretches and exercises to do on my own, and generally about what I should be doing to take care of myself. They are usually a pretty busy place, but the fun and friendly personalities of everyone on the staff make physical therapy an enjoyable experience. read more

I did physical therapy here for a chronic ankle problem. Loved it. Not only did they improve my conditioning, but they taught me many, many techniques that I can use on my own. They even came up with some good exercises I can do while traveling. It did take a long time for their billing to start, but there were no surprises. They worked well with my insurance company and my out-of-pocket was what I expected considering my coverage. it's true that you won't have a dedicated therapist. They always have another patient while you're there. But I never felt neglected, and really their job is to coach and instruct you; you're only going to get out what you put in, and that's a solo endeavor. read more

I was a patient of this Athletico after ACL reconstruction that I had in October of 2015. My Physical Therapist was Amy Malone and she was absolutely wonderful. Amy is a real pro who knows her stuff. She kept me motivated throughout the long recovery process and answered any questions that I had. I trusted her completely with my recovery plan. She was readily available via email between sessions if I had any questions before my next appointment, which I really appreciated. Amy even accompanied me to a checkup appointment to have direct dialog with my ACL reconstruction team at Rush. I felt incredibly lucky to have such a dedicated group working with me during my recovery. Not only was Amy fantastic, but really everyone on staff. I had the pleasure of working with almost every therapist for a session or two due to scheduling conflicts, and the staff couldn't have been better. The therapists and student assistants were extremely helpful. After 6 months of recovery, I graduated this week and was sad to say goodbye to Amy and the Bucktown Athletico team. The Team at Athletico Bucktown is excellent. When I first came in for my assessment, suspected ACL/Meniscus Tear, Brett and Thomas were quick to get in contact with some of their Ortho contacts to get me evaluated further prior to my flight later in the week. They were able to get me in later in the day! Once my ACL tear was confirmed I started pre-hab with them and quickly knew this was the PT group for me. I have been working predominantly with Keyra who has been attentive and knowledgeable. She has worked with me to set goals and expectations up until surgery in order to gain muscle mass and flexibility. Post-surgery, now roughly 6 weeks later, Keyra and Co. have me "ahead of schedule" according to my Orthopedic Surgeon. I love the communal feel and energy that all of the staff have. You can feel the energy which enhances the therapy experience and pushes you to hit the goals that have been laid out for you. I look forward to the next several weeks of rehab with this group. I came to Athletico because of a pain I felt in my left arm. They got me setup with Mark right away. Turns out I had a minor case of golfer's elbow. Mark is a genius. He answered all my questions. More importantly, his recommendations provided real results. My left arm feels much better now. I had a great time at physical therapy. When I 'graduated', I was kind of bummed cause I felt like I would really miss the place. Still, I am happy to have recovered from my injury so well. read more

O Athletico, how do i love thee? let me count the ways! severe back pain that doesn't respond to any pain medication: check sleepless nights and really grumpy unbearable days: check barely functioning at work: check my health insurance covers this, so i can't really speak to the cost, but if you are in pain i am sure it's worth it!!! after my initial 2 visits the pain became manageable. after 6 visits it's beginning to lessen between visits. the PT's here are very good at identifying what the cause of a problem is and repairing it. pros: - everyone is helpful, from the people at the desk to the guy who sets you up with heating pads to the therapists. i had to park in the tandem parking on a busy day and one of the employees moved my car so i could continue my therapy so another patient could get out. - the therapists are very sensitive to whatever you are going through, i have felt like they really want me to feel better - easy to get in, the day my doctor presribed PT i called and asked if i could get in that day - to my delight i was getting evaluated 3 hours later and was booked 6 appointments out at the end of the day. - everyone is really efficient - you start to feel better really quickly, and if you don't your PT will figure out why not - there is patient parking in the back cons - it initally is overwhelming - it can be really busy and appear impersonal, but as soon as i met my PT that dissolved - parking is beast if it is so busy that there is no patient parking in the back, go in the mornings if you can!!!! read more

Highly recommended. I have nothing but great feedback for the team at Athletico Bucktown. I worked predominantly with Thomas over a 6+ month time period to prehab/rehab a torn ACL. Finding the time (and motivation) for up to 3 PT sessions per week can be very challenging, but the Team and atmosphere at Athletico Bucktown made the entire process much more enjoyable. Thomas and the Team are well-trained, easy to work with, and genuinely care for all of their patients. I really like the facility's atmosphere and honestly looked forward to my PT sessions. I still have not 100% recovered but they are doing a great job (I mostly deal with Chris). You can feel that they are knowledgeable so you know you are in good hands. I went to Athletico to get treatment for a running injury. PT often involves a lot of appointments, so I wanted to find somewhere convenient and close to my house. The road to recovery turned out to be long, and over the next 9+ months of treatment, my physical therapist, Chris Martin, was encouraging and genuinely invested in my recovery. He was available by email if I had any questions and followed up to see how I was doing. He even accompanied me to one of my doctor appointments, where we spent 3 hours in the waiting room! I've gone to PT for minor running injuries before, and it can be boring to go to so many sessions and do the same repetitious movements over and over. The staff at Athletico are social and have a great rapport with each other, which makes going there enjoyable. I had a lot of good conversations with Chris, the other therapists and students, and other patients while I was there. The staff is super helpful and welcoming. They worked with my insurance company to make sure my visits were covered, and the appointment reminders they send are helpful. I was usually able to schedule appointments at times that were convenient. It's a pleasure to be running pain-free again after such a long journey, and I'm grateful for the care I received. Going to Athletico became part of my routine for a while, and part of me will actually miss going there! read more

Keyra is an absolute amazing physical therapist. I'm a competitive tennis player that played through pain for over a year that got so bad I couldn't hit a forehand or serve. I had shoulder impingement, a notoriously annoying injury. I started PT with Keyra, and 10 weeks later was back on the court. She was phenomenal to work with, and her exercise and stretching regimen combined with a few dry needling sessions did the trick. Now I'm back to 100% and couldn't be more pleased with the result! read more

Athletico is a first rate facility. They have outstanding staff who are very knowledgeable. I worked with Aaron who fit my style, a good guy and not to pushy. Many people like Lisa and Jason as well. The front desk staff is helpful, friendly and is good about getting you an appointment. I agree that it can get crowded at times, but this doesn't detract from getting the job done. If you like the latest gadgets like the fitter, bosu ball, therabands, etc. Athletico has it. They will also do a gait analysis if your injury is running related. This involves video and still frames of your running, which I found very helpful. Be sure to check your co-pay, because mine was $40 (not Athletico's fault) and it can get pricey if you're there for a few months. They will do a free assessment, which is more indepth than I thought. Overall, I highly recommend this place and wouldn't hesitate to use them again. read more

I have been going for a few months, and not only am I extremely happy with my experience with this location and therapist, but my back is feeling better than it has in 3 months! Rachel Gage is the absolute best & I owe her a huge thank you for my progress. I came to see her in June for PF physical therapy at my lowest point thinking I would never feel better (I've had consistent pain for the past 1.5 years)...now 2 months later and I am almost completely better. She is so easy to talk to and genuinely cares about her patients - it truly shows. She was always so quick to respond to my emails with questions in between sessions too. Rachel was also very honest - she let me cut back on my session frequency and length when she realized I didn't require as much hands on work anymore, which I really appreciated since it saved me money and time. I've been a patient at Athletico - Bucktown for the last year for pre- and post-operative PT relating to an auto accident. I've had three other arthroscopic sports surgeries over the last decade, and attended half a dozen other PT clinics prior to finding this place. Rick (D.), my primary therapist, has been kind, knowledgeable, and flexible. He's done an impressive job communicating with my orthopedist and developing a treatment regimen that aligns with both imposed restrictions and my body's day-to-day response to treatment and recovery. My appointments never seem hurried, and I've been made to feel comfortable requesting extra treatment when my body needs it. The front desk staff, including Rick (M.), Patti and Natalie have been great with communicating about billing (BCBS PPO & my attorney) and scheduling. On the few occasions my odd hours kept me from my regular appointment times, I was able to reschedule easily with (therapists) John, Chris and Rachel, all of whom also provided me with great treatment. To sum things up, I've gotten quality care with no hassles and friendly service in a clean and comfortable environment. I have had several great experiences with Athletico Bucktown, so this review is long overdue! In particular my PT Vince Isaac is awesome. He listens and takes your concerns in to account, while also pushing you as far as is good for you. He is great! I first came to these guys after a hip replacement. Before and after the hip replacement I had tried two other places and neither was as good an experience. The nice thing here is that it's not built on one person's personality, there is a depth to the staff to where if Vince is not available I feel very comfortable with whoever the staff recommends. I returned to them this year following a broken arm, so they are versatile as well. Shout outs to Magaly who juggles appointments and handles all the insurance back and forth with ease and expertise. Bernardo, who does massage therapy there, is also awesome and helped a lot with the back issues that come along with all of my other challenges (tho he is in high demand so book early!). I had a full knee replacement on September 12, 2017, and chose the Athletico at 1644 N. Milwaukee as it is a few blocks from my house. I am 65 so I expected my recovery to not be easy. Upon arriving for my first session in October (I had 2 weeks of in home therapy through Rush Hospital) It was luck of the draw which therapist I would get. I was paired up with Vincent Isaac. I spent 3.5 months with Vince twice a week. He was the consummate professional. He explained all the why's and how comes of all the treatment I had. He pushed me whenever I needed it and was supportive on the few times I was struggling. I am done with my sessions and I feel great. The Athletico - Bucktown team is awesome. After injuring my arm, I came here for occupational therapy and worked with Mark Torres, who is extremely patient and knowledgeable. He developed an effective and flexible treatment plan for me and helped me understand how to prevent future injury. Mark and the rest of the staff were always super friendly and upbeat, and they made the whole experience enjoyable. It was also incredibly easy to schedule appointments, and the front desk staff was able to answer all of my convoluted insurance questions. I took a functional evaluation capacity test with athletico and the guy that was giving the test was very rude extremely. The guy moved my arm around and I was hurting while he was doing this and he just kept on. In the report he wrote that I was able to lift my arm above my head and that is no true I have had three surgeries and I am permanently incapable of lifting my arm pass my shoulder on my own. I wrote letters to the president and he never responded to any of my letters. I have made numerous calls to just be shut down, I would advise anyone with a serious injury to stay away from this company. read more

Staff is friendly, and someone is usually around to help with the juggling between exercises and hot packs. Hours are great for hitting before/after work, very close to the El. I love that they do dry needling. It's really helpful i getting spams to relax so the muscles can get strengthened. Amy was great at pushing me right to where I could take the pain and strain.
