Our husband and I loved our stay here. The best thing here is the personalized service. Andrew gave us amazing recommendations about the best hikes and things to do around town (even the best spot to see the July 4th fireworks :) Breakfast were beyond delicious with a first course of fruit and home made muffins and a yummy substantial second course which varies every day. Amazing B&B, as well as the owner! We are supposed to go to Aruba for our honeymoon trip and we had to change the plan due to high covid cases there. I would come back and stay here in a heartbeat. No complaints from check-in to check-out. ROOM: Stayed in Strawberry Hill, one of the attic rooms. I liked having a topmost room, as it gets around the issue of loud people staying above you and stomping on the wood boards. My nitpicks are that the ceiling on the bathroom was low enough that I had to hunch in some corners, and the shower was on the dollhouse side. INNKEEPER: Andrew goes above and beyond in making everyone feel comfortable. We had a ton of questions about which hiking trails to do, and he took time out of a busy breakfast time to pull out a map and mark out which ones he liked. Besides doling out drool-inducing breakfast (see below), he also hosts a small wine and cheese every afternoon from 5-6. Plus ... Benjamin. BREAKFAST: I had to restrain myself from eating too many of the blueberry muffins. You start off with a fruit and yogurt parfait, then an entree of waffles, French toast, an egg-based dish, with bacon or sausage on the side. If you have food allergies or shy away from carbs (mmm, delicious carbs), Andrew was happy to make an omelet. I also saw cereal and bagels. I justified downing a third muffin at the prospect of a 6-mile hike. Breakfast is from 8 to 10 with the other guests in the house. In general, I think we were on the younger end of the spectrum, but everyone was friendly and no one withheld the maple syrup for the waffles. LOCATION: Very convenient. About a 5 minute walk from downtown Bar Harbor and Village Green, where the Island Explorer shuttle stops. read more

The Good: Location. Short walk to the 'downtown area' and getting into Acadia. Inn keeper Andrew very knowledgeable and helpful. Coffee was good. Average: price, accommodations. Bad/issues: breakfast was cold (and wrong our last day), no way to warm it up either: thank you rude and sarcastic assistant Inn Keeper (Aaron). No access to water or 'common area' bathroom unless you run to your own bath room (which could be a few flights of stairs away). Only a community fridge with it's ice maker and place to keep anything cold (there's 11 rooms!) Flatest pillows ever! No tissues in the room, nor paper towels in the common area if you have a spill... only so many things can be blamed on Covid. read more

The best thing about Thornhedge Inn was its great location which was walking distance to everything. Andrew explained that Covid rules prevented fresh cooked meals from being served and also explained why nobody had tissues in their rooms. We had stayed at several B&Bs on this trip to Maine, and this was the ONLY one that didn't supply tissues in the rooms and provided only bagged breakfasts. (the options were exactly the same each day, and after eating it that 1st day, we opted out for the remainder). We found a GREAT restaurant for breakfast in town and went there the following 2 days. Our room was clean, but needed many little"fixes". The mini blinds didn't work on one of the windows, no curtain hook on one, so curtain just hung in front of window, drawer in dresser needed to be fixed (had to keep struggling to open that drawer), no screen on one window......little things, but when put together with breakfasts and interpersonal relationships, it just showed a lack of love of ownership and care that we experienced in our other B&Bs. Those B&B owners took such personal pride of ownership in their establishments, their meal preparations, their personal conversations, and their care. read more

This place is so beautiful! I stayed in three different rooms and they were all gorgeous, spacious, all antique and so tastefully decorated. It was like going back in time! I felt like a princess staying there! Andrew, the inn keeper was so helpful with everything and extremely knowledgeable about the history of the place and also about everything related to Bar Harbor. We stayed at Thornhedge Inn for a few days and I have to say it might be the best bed and breakfast experiences we've ever had. Andrew was so helpful in suggesting activities and things to do in the city. Because of the pandemic, the breakfast was served takeout style but it was pretty good. We put our order the night before and it was ready in the morning. I imagine the Great Room is a wonderful place to mingle with other guests but again due to pandemic, that wasn't an option. Overall, we would definitely stay at Thornhedge Inn in the future and definitely recommend it 100%. read more

This is our go to Inn when we stay in Bar Harbor. Most attractions are within walking distance and the rooms are great. Breakfast is awesome along with the wine and cheese social in the afternoons. It's fun striking up conversations with other guests from other parts of the country too! Andrew is a great host, has great suggestions on where to go and where to eat and is very personable. this place is one of the most lovely experiences away from home I have ever had. from the adorable room to the atmosphere in the whole place, everything was just perfect. we stayed in the devil stone room and it was so lovely. the charm of this place is like no other. breakfast is included and boy oh boy. it is no ordinary hotel waffle maker. they serve you your plate freshly made when you come down. we had the best omelet i've ever had, some fantastic blueberry french toast, and a lovely creme brûlée french toast as well. everything was so good. many of the guests sit and eat together and it's such a nice time to socialize and meet new people. we had great acadia trail recommendations from the owner and other guests which we ended up taking and had the best time! on top of the fantastic breakfast, every evening they serve wine and cheese!! many of the guests will also sit on the porch together and talk while you all enjoy the wine and it is again, such a fantastic atmosphere. I truly loved every part of my stay here and if I come back to Bar Harbor, this is definitely the place I will be staying at. read more

We stayed here for a long weekend in 2009. They offered the best price and were available last minute. We happy to find such a nice place on such short notice. We stayed in one of the rooms in the basement. It might have been the largest room I've ever had in a hotel. It had a private bath, a couch, lots of comfy chairs, dressers, coffee table, etc. It was very spacious yet cozy too. You could only just tell that you were in a basement - there were still windows looking to outside. The room was nice and cool even without the air conditioner and it was super quiet and private. The breakfast was good and the proprietor was friendly and happy to share the story of the house and how it's been in his family forever. I'd highly recommend the Thornhedge! read more

I stayed here 2 nights on my Maine Vacay and enjoyed it for the most part. It was my first time staying at a B&B as an adult and I found it to be lot like staying at someone's house albeit someone's giant house. We had one of the rooms on the third floor where the bathroom is external outside of the room. It was private with our own key, so it was fine, but it lent itself to the guest vibe. Then there's the included breakfast where you sit at the big dining room table with other guests and the owner and choose from fresh baked muffins, cereal, yogurt, fruit salad, juice and tea and coffee. You may have an interesting conversation or you may have an awkward one, but that's all part of the fun. As for the room, it was big and clean, but I didn't get the best night sleep ever. There were only lace curtains so if you need pitch black to sleep like me this isn't your place. It was also very warm upstairs (we happened to visit during a heat wave) and the external air conditioner in the room was very noisy. All in all I recommend the Thornhedge Inn. It's got a great location right in Bar Harbor no need for driving and it's very affordable. It also has little perks that you can't get at a hotel like the hospitable owner. He gave us recommendations for hikes in Acadia and even let us borrow his hiking trail book. read more

Totally gorgeous little inn. My parents and brother and I were planning a family trip to Bar Harbor for a few days, so we booked two rooms at the Thornhedge Inn. The prices were totally reasonable - $100ish for each of the rooms in the attic (prices very depending on which room you book though). The rate includes a tasty continental breakfast and of course, the opportunity to stay in this beautiful 100+ year-old bed and breakfast. The walls are all covered in beautiful flowery wallpapers, the furnishings are mostly antique. The downside is the wall-to-wall carpeting, but the owner is planning to change that. Also, the location is ideal. It's less than 10 minutes from Acadia National Park's famous Park Loop Road and about 15 minutes to the Otter Cliffs. It's also about a 2 minute walk from the little shops that make up Bar Harbor's downtown. I enjoyed every second of my stay at Thornhedge - in fact, part of why I was so sad to leave Maine was the fact that I had to leave the inn. So yeah. Book here. read more

This is the one - an absolutely stellar inn by all standards. We're in the Blair Eyrie room - it's upstairs, huge, and feels very private. We're on our last night here and are compelled to convince you to choose Thornhedge Inn as your BH home. Andy is a thoughtful, engaging host who knows his island through and through. He and the evening manager, Aaron, are spot on in their recommendations for MDI activities and eateries. Breakfast each morning is fresh, delicious, and filling, and it's served by Andy. Cross your fingers that French toast with blueberry-lavender syrup is served one of the days you're here! It's delightful that Andy sits at the huge dining table with guests and engages in what-are-you-doing-today conversation. He's genuinely interested in helping you get the most out of your time in BH. The 5 o'clock wine and cheese is the best to come home to after a day in Acadia. Very first class. We have truly loved our stay at Thornhedge and would give it more than 5 stars if possible. We reserved two rooms and had a lovely stay. The location was perfect and allowed for quick jaunts to the shops and a brief drive to Acadia National Park.The rooms are large and lovely with large private baths. The shower stalls are a bit small, but typical for B&Bs in old houses in Maine. Our party was accommodated with a spare fold-out bed. Perfect for our needs. I agree with others that the air conditioners on the third floor are a bit noisy, but are great at cooling it down. Breakfast was great with a large percolator coffee and plenty of tea available. At the 10 place dining room table, breakfast started with mixed fruit on yogurt which was fresh and lovely but it's pre-made each morning so if you don't want the yogurt, only fruit, so sorry. The blueberry french toast and 4 pepper quiche entrees were equally delicious. There's always cereal and bagels available which my teenage kids preferred. The decor is tasteful and interesting. Wine and cheese in the afternoon is a nice touch for a bit of afternoon conversation. Also, it was nice to note that we could not hear other guests while in either of our rooms! For an old house, sound did not travel! Andrew was a gracious host and was always available! read more

This B&B was perfection. My boyfriend and I were coming to Bar Harbor for a wedding and challenged with the task of deciding between all of the inns, bed and breakfasts and hotels in the area. We were completely satisfied with our decision to stay at Thornhedge Inn. Andrew, the innkeeper and his (ridiculously adorable and unbelievably well behaved) dog Benjamin immediately greeted us and we felt right at home. Our room, The Stanwood, was lovely with a porch overlooking the street. It was absolutely idyllic for lazy mornings reading in the sun. The house was a short walk from the main town and absolutely beautiful. The breakfast was amazing. Absolutely delicious with a wide variety, and of course a fun way to get to know fellow travelers. Andrew was always at the table with prompt service and a fun story to share and tips to give for restaurants or sights, etc. He also hosts a wine and cheese every night. Every where you look, there is a surprise whether it's the woodwork, the statues, the wallpaper. Andrew, the owner, was born and raised in Bar Harbor and if asked, will tell you the highlights of things to do and see. This made for a hassle free, easy week. The day at the Inn starts off with a fabulous breakfast that carries you well into the afternoon. The menu changes daily and Andrew makes and serves the breakfast seamlessly - a host to be admired. Location was convenient & our room was spacious. One of the main reasons for staying at a bed-and-breakfast is to be able to openly socialize with other guest, we were unaware of the Covid-19 restrictions still in place & the mask mandate which made it uncomfortable to explore the open spaces within the house even though we both got our COVID-19 immunization. Breakfast was pathetic, we were under the impression we would have a fresh made sit down breakfast NOT a microwave sandwich & terrible coffee served on a cardboard disposal tray & to go cup along with plastic utensils on several websites it did indicate that there was fresh made breakfast! Most bed & breakfast also include available bottles of water along with evenings snacks to allow guests to socialize. On the upside Andrew was quite friendly and very knowledgeable of the surrounding areas. Very Disappointing. read more

The Thornhedge is a lovely B&B in a great location in Bar Harbor. Once you arrive you can park your car and walk anywhere you need to go near the harbor. There is also a shuttle to take you to Acadia National Park. This is all very convenient as parking is at a premium. In the evening you can sit on the front porch and enjoy a glass of wine with some cheese and crackers provided by the host and even pet the house dog Benjamin. But the real magic happens at breakfast, there are bagels and English muffins with a toaster, 3 different cereals, water and juice and fresh muffins on both days we were there. The crown jewel was the served breakfast, on both days we had a yogurt parfait with fresh fruit, my wife does not normally eat yogurt but she did both days, then the main service was a delight the first day it was a potato, egg, cheese sauce, onions type of thing that was truly gourmet! The second day it was French toast with fresh Maine blueberry compote wow were both of these dishes awesome! Oh yes we had sausage the first day and bacon the next what a delight! Our room was large and luckily had AC since we were there during the heat wave of July 2019!.Give it a try I think you will be satisfied! read more

Excellent Inn my husband and I stayed in this past weekend for the 4th. Andrew who owns and runs the Inn was helpful from the beginning offering to call a sailing company that was leaving the dock shortly to get us seats! We were the last two passengers they took. He was a wealth of knowledge about the Inn ...so much history and the town suggesting where to go in Acadia Park to eating lobster rolls at Beal's. The accomodations also were very comfortable. Stayed in a very nice size room with bathroom attached. Be nice in the winter with the fireplace going too! Breakfasts were all made in house and delicious with a great presentation. Comfortable, clean and affordable. Thornhedge is a classic Victorian Bar Harbor B&B. Andy was a good, laid back host and (as a lifelong local) knowledgeable about the area. We just returned from our third visit to the Thornhedge Inn. All three visits were a charm! Andrew and Aaron are great hosts and have a vast knowledge of the area. They can suggest activities, great food and fun things to see and do. The Inn is conveniently located on Mt. Desert Street only minutes from the shops and restaurants of Bar Harbor. The neighborhood has several historic and classic homes if you stroll the blocks. All of the rooms are neat, clean and well decorated in the flavor of the area. Off street parking and delicious breakfast were the highlights. There is a beautiful porch and one room has it's own roof-top balcony. Great options for people watching and breathing in fresh Maine air. Each afternoon there is a social hour with complimentary wine and cheese.
