The communication between staff and the surgery center is awful, no one returns phone calls, medical treatment plans are changed without notifying the patient and I would not recommend this entire practice regardless of location. I have never been seen by this practice. But I want to post a personal experience and want everyone to know. So a couple days ago I lost Vision in the right side of my eye. I was scared and called them. I have suffered migraines my whole life and having auroras were something I have had before but this was something I've never experienced. I called and talk to the scheduler and she could hear in my voice I was scared. She promptly tried to make me an appointment. My vision started to come back so I was like thank you but I think I'm going to wait it out. A few minutes later another woman (Heather I think think) called me back and talked to me. She was genuinely concerned about me, a stranger. She told me she was going to call me back in the morning to make sure I was ok. And schedule and appointment that same day if I still wanted to be seen. And she did! The next morning she called me and she was professional and kind. It's so comforting to know that there are good people in this world who go above and Beyond, especially to strangers. I will be bringing all my business here and telling everyone about this place. Ity was hard for me to go to an in person appointment, but necessary. I was pleasantly surprised at the care the practice has taken to protect staff and patients. Chairs spaced apart, everyone masked. I saw a new doc since my doc had apparently retired, Dr. Samara was attentive, caring, compassionate and knowledgeably, and he actively involved me in my treatment plan. The technician was also knowledgeable and very engaged with his work with me. I appreciate the sense of camaraderie among the staff and the cohesive working relation ship between the docs and staff. read more

But Dr. Lancaster is the reason I return year after year. He takes the time to listen to his patients and hear about any lifestyle changes which may affect their vision. Same story as I see a lot of on here, over booked, poor staffing, waited an hour past my appointment time, watched customers that had already been called to the back to start their process to walk out, so I walked up to the desk and asked what was going on just to be told they are running behind and once they did call me back it would more than likely be another hour. This was a great experiend. Dr. Duss did my Lasik surgery 2 years ago and has been great. I was pretty nervous at the time but was the best thing I could have done to improve my every day vision. He put me at ease. I see him now for follow up appointments and also due to some eye issues in the family to monitor my eyes. He is very thorough, he gives you the time and is very knowledgeable of what is coming down the road. The office was busy but the staff did a good job moving everyone around and making sure there was distance and everything was cleaned down. Emily was awesome she did all the pre-work and vision test for Dr. Duss. She was very knowledgeable and thorough in her workup and questions asked and was very pleasant and calm. I first went to Atlantic Eye Institute in November and saw Dr. Diaz for cataract evaluation. I have since had one eye cataract surgery done this week and it has gone very well. The doctor is great, the surgicenter there at the Atlantic Eye Institute building is awesome! Everyone so far has been very professional, explaining everything fully. They have accommodated all my concerns, have been patient and sympathetic to my anxieties. I even had a contact lens trial to see how different lenses would be for my vision when trying to decide what implanted lenses to choose for my corrective replacements. They always call back promptly and if I need to be seen I get right in. The coordinators are great about responding to phone calls and e-mails for questions and concerns. I have had plenty of questions and requests and each one has been dealt with patiently and cheerfully, no matter how many I send their way. Absolutely great staff! I'm looking forward to having the second eye done and then when both are finished and healed up and the great vision that will be the end result. I'm having a great experience so far. I will be posting updates as things progress. There is one down-side for the Beach location, It seems that the wait times here are long, and my initial visit here was delayed about 30 minutes, and the entire visit took several hours, but it was an initial visit and they did extensive testing. read more

I very highly recommend Atlantic Eye Institute! I started with an through exam by Dr Lancaster. He was very professional and answered all my questions. I told him I had considered LASIK's surgery but was too scared. He recommended I talk to Dr Diaz. He was very careful not to be pushy while encouraging me to just talk about it. When I came back and met Dr Diaz's assistant. Mally, I felt so comfortable with her kind professionalism, I was already convinced to have the surgery. Dr Diaz just reassured me all the more by answering all my questions. Mally was completely available to me by text or cell phone to answer the many questions I had leading up to my surgery day. I was still afraid during my procedure but everyone was kind and professional and it all went very very quickly! Front desk is always friendly, all back office personal are professional and friendly and Dr Duss is always great with asking if any questions and also friendly. I called 3 times and left detailed messages over a 10-day period regarding a billing issue and no one had the courtesy to return my call even though the voice message says they will call within 24 hours. So I stopped by their office and two women at the front desk explained the billing and how they cannot bill both a medical exam and a refraction on the same day so our medical insurance denied the refraction portion which cannot be billed to our vision insurance so we have to pay out of pocket for this denial. Had my husband come back on a different day they said they could have billed it separately to our vision provider but he was not made aware of this. Interesting there was no issue ordering his glasses on the same day as the exam and filing that with our vision insurance. My husband isn't happy with his glasses, either. We will not go back where squeezing money from the patient and insurance companies is seemingly more important than providing professional and ethical communications so patients are aware of the billing process and have the right to refuse or reschedule service. read more

Remember when Jesus healed the blind man by placing mud in his eyes? Lasik at Atlantic Eye Institute is making the same thing happen in 13 mins! LOL. But seriously. I have been contemplating lasik for years. I have eye allergies so I wasn't able to wear contact anymore, so that means glasses every day rain or shine or humidity. And now with face masks, the glasses became unbearable. So I was choosing if I wanted to go into target with no glasses blind or with dogged up glasses the entire time. Neither are great solutions. Ugh! So I talked to Dr Schmunez about my concerns (eye allergies, extreme astigmatisms in both eyes, overall surgery anxiety) and he and his staff answered all my questions throroughly so I had the information to make an informed decision about lasik eye surgery. Since I've been wearing glasses for 20+ years it didn't take long for me to decide - YES! I was scheduled basically the following week and the entire procedure took about 10 mins. I've talked to my Dr almost every day giving me ease during my recovery. After the procedure I read 20/20 and now 2 week later I can read 20/15 which is insane! The next day I was able to drive myself to the post op Appt. If you're trying to decide to do lasik, don't wait, and it you want it done right by a crew of genuine drs who care about you and your well being, then do it here at Atlantic Eye Institute. I cannot recommend them enough! SO HAPPY I CAN SEE (even in the middle of the night). read more
