St. John's Eye Associates seriously mishandled my prescription and misled me about my options. Instead of providing the contacts I've always received under my insurance, they claimed I could only get a different type--at a much higher cost. When I later inquired about exchanging the unused lenses, they denied the possibility, only for my insurance to confirm that I should have been given my preferred contacts from the start. Rather than informing me of all my options upfront, they withheld crucial information, causing unnecessary frustration and financial strain. They only changed course **after** my insurance contacted them, which makes it clear that they had the facts all along but failed to act in my best interest. Whether due to negligence or greed, this experience was unacceptable. Patients deserve honesty and providers who prioritize their well-being--not ones who make things harder for them. read more

Top notch technology in a great community that can afford great frames but whoever the frame buyer is needs a major lesson. Absolute horrible selection for men's optical frames (95% women's frames). Dr. Phillips and the whole team at St John's Eye Associates we're amazing! From the moment I got there, I felt quite welcomed by their competent and efficient team. As a new patient, I'm always interested in how much paperwork I'll need to fill out - they minimized the paperwork and got me right back into the exam rooms where they ran a number of tests using the most modern technology. After the initial assessment, I met with Dr. Phillips who quickly assessed my needs, and got me right to the optician. The optician found me a pair of frames and lenses that were exactly what I was looking for, and at a very affordable price. From the moment I walked in the door the service received was beyond 5 stars. The young ladies at the front desk greeted me with a smile, were very helpful and overall just sweet. The technician that did all of my eye testing before seeing Dr. Price was awesome. When I asked a question she offered up as much as information as she could and then made sure that Dr. Price knew that I had questions. Dr. Price was kind, engaging, a wealth of information and displayed integrity that was so welcoming to see. I'm glad that I trusted my gut and went for a second opinion. I wanted to support a local business versus Visionworks and made an appointment. My first appointment for contacts, in early October was okay. It took a couple of visits to get the contacts right. We ordered new script on 11/5. I understood they would take 3-4 weeks. They are a newer contact that is custom prepared. I called after 3 weeks and was told that they were to be sent and received in about 5 days. After not receiving them, I called again. I was then told they were shipped from England on the 6th and "no telling "when they would be received by the supplier. Today is 12/19. No calls, no offer for a temporary pair. Avoid this place, the customer service is awful. read more

We've been going to St Johns Eye in Nocatee for 2 years now. We love the interior design and they do seem to have some of the latest equipment. So why 3 stars? Well service is slow and they are too persistent on pushing new contacts. If I like what I'm in and they are working for me that should be all I have to say. But instead I always leave with trials of the "latest and greatest" only to have to call back later and request they order the ones I wanted originally. The newish female doctor (I think she has been there almost a year now) is very nice. I was not a fan of the owner husband and wife team. Anytime I go I can expect to be there for well over an hour. My family and I have been patients of this office for four years. I loved the decor, the quiet setting, and normally quick service. Today I experienced the worst customer service from any organization medical or not. I am a migraine sufferer of 36 years. This time around my migraine presented differently and was vestibular. It took me 35 days to finally be relieved of the discomfort. In that 35 days I was in the ER twice, urgent care twice, and at my regular primary several time. I was still having physical and visual eye disturbances and unable to work. That's when I called SJEA. I arrived for an 11am appt and my appt horror began at 11:30. An assistant called me to the back after she spent a great deal of time complaining about my "medical" visit to the front desk staff. She took me to the ocular machine where I verified that she knew I was there for a medical visit and not a routine exam. I placed my eye in the machine, it flashed the brightest light I have ever seen and yup, triggered another attack. I informed her that I couldn't do the other eye and she said "The doctor won't see you without these test." I told her she just triggered another episode of something I spent a month missing life to get rid of, and that I won't be doing the other eye. Annoyed she told me to "go sit in the waiting room", I I'm in tears by the time I finally get to the doctor chair at 11:45. The doctor looked at the health of my eye, gave me drops I shouldn't use with contacts (thank god Dr Nataliya told me that last year), and said I should put my computer on night mode. My attack is pretty bad at this point and I told her I was there because I'm having trouble focusing. She said I had mild dry eye and my migraine made me sensitive to it. Again, left in tears. After I was able to stop my attack and rejoin the world I realized she never even checked my focusing system the whole reason I scheduled the visit. I called and explained that I'd like to pop back in to "finish" the visit because my attack made it difficult to advocate for myself. I was placed on hold for 10 mins. Then told would receive a call back in 5 mins. I called again, put in hold for 20mins then finally greeted by Melissa. She is awful. Awful, awful, awful. She said it's just eye strain from needing a new prescription and I'll get new glass for my vision changes. I told her I tested 20/15 in the office, and I know when something is wrong. She didn't care that she triggered a migraine attack, knows nothing about the connection of eyes and brain nervous systems, and had horrible bedside manner to tell me a migraine suffer of 36 years I just need a new prescription. It was her fault I had an attack and unable to explain my concerns throughly to the doctor. I felt belittled, as if I didn't matter, and like she was too busy to assist me. Seeing another doc the same day, I learned that I am likely suffering from a retinal migraine often common after a vestibular one and prescribed medication. I feel so much better and I'm thankful I chose not to listen to SJEA and follow my gut. My family and I will now be going to iOptics to visit Dr Nataliya. read more

Very poor customer service. Communication is not good. I have been to both locations and will not be going back to either. The eye exam is basically what you'd get at lens crafters...it's not thorough and they blew off two issues I told them about. One of which required a real doctor visit and major work up after I went to a better eye doctor. Their eye glass selection is a joke and they will not give you all the information you need to make a good selection until after they wasted a lot of your time. My wife and I went into the St. Johns Eye Associates office this past Saturday for our annual eye exams. The office is very beautiful and modern. There is a large selection of very upscale designer eye wear manufacturers. One thing of note up front: My "co-pay" is $10. SJEA charge an extra $19 for the new equipment they use during the exam. At first I was a little leery of an "upcharge" for anything... but after you see the series of CRAZY new sci-fi diagnostic tools they have... $19 is a bargain! I saw Dr. Voung. Very thorough exam. I enjoyed my visit. I felt like I received a very complete exam. I ordered a nice designer pair of glasses. I will not have them in one hour, but probably 2 weeks... but I know these guys are very local to me, and that if I have any issues I can go back and get help. read more

If I could give this business zero stars I would. I took my son in to get his annual exam. We just moved here so we went on a recommendation from a friend. We did an eye exam but then were told to come back for the actual contact fitting. I thought this was off but figured they are trying to cut down time in office due to covid. When we came back, my son's vision only changed by 1/4 and he was fitted for the same exact contact he used the previous year. Same brand but slightly larger prescription. When we went to check out they changed me $1,500! I asked why it was so high and they said the exam for "myopia control" which is just nearsightedness was $600. And they have a package deal where you get the contacts included for $1,500. They told me my contacts weren't covered by insurance nor was the eye exam. Which was crazy since our eye doctor in California said everything was covered by our insurance. This practice is a rip off and refuses to charge us a fair and normal rate. I've had other friends who were pushed to spend more money there as well. Very shady business practices! read more

Not impressed. The exam is outlandishly expensive, if like me you don't have vision insurance. But, it's in my neighborhood, very convenient, so I decided to give them a try despite the cost. The doctor gave me a prescription so weak, I didn't even feel comfortable driving in them! He said he did it to help with my close-up vision, which is weird, because I had no complaint about my close-up vision. Went back a few days later and he gave me a different pair to try, which were fine. He apologized. Prescription sorted, I stopped back in to order contacts. Never heard from them! Finally called, and I am told, they "tried" to have the system send me a text message TWO WEEKS AGO, but apparently it didn't go through. Umm, if you have someone's contacts sitting there, after a week or so wouldn't you, I don't know, CALL the person? She apologized. I accept your apologies, SJEA, but when paying a premium price I expect premium service, and I was disappointed. Twice. read more

I stepped on my glasses one day before going on vacation. I called the place where I purchased the glasses and they did not have my frames in stock. I took them to St Johns eye to try and get them fixed because it was the closest to my house. They told me they would try to fix them but if they broke them it was not their responsibility, and I completely understood. They tried their hardest but they were still crooked and I wasn't seeing well. Lacey went out of her way to try to find a pair of frames that fit my lenses. It took her a long time, picking up frame after frame after frame to try to find a pair that would work with my lenses and fit my big ole head. Finally after much working she found a pair. Unfortunately they were very expensive. She gave me a huge discount to make them affordable and now I'm able to go on vacation and see! They have a customer for life! I bought a pair of Ray Bans that they had list, $225, gave me a $45 discount because i bought multiple pairs, which put them at $180. Unfortunately, i went home and Googled the pair and they are, on Ray Ban's own site, $155, and Amazon, $115. So, I guess i'm good with the service but feel prices are very high... read more

We were extremely dissatisfied with this group. My children's glasses took over 3 weeks to arrive & we had to call multiple times for them to follow up with the manufacturer. To add insult to injury, they did not do a contact exam on my son (who wears them full time) & told me that they would charge an additional $175 to do so. It is clear to me that they are not interested in their patient's best interest but only interested in making a $$. This is the 1st negative review I've ever given anyone so I do feel very strongly about my experience with them. while the office is beautiful, and they have all the new whistles and bells of technology, and their doctors are awesome, their front office staff is not very efficient. I went in for scleral lenses, and my husband just needed new eye glasses. Scleral lenses require several fittings; they have you try them on, test them out for a week, figure out which adjustments to make, and order a revised set from the lab. this can take several tries. I'm on fitting #3 and every time, I have to call to see if they have come back from the lab, they NEVER call me. Every eye place I've ever been to before always calls the day they come in. I'm pretty sure my last set came in towards the beginning of last week, but as of today, Monday, they never called. Of course they were already in, were probably sitting around for week. My husband ordered glasses, and the only way we knew they came in, was because on one of my visits for my lenses two weeks after his had been ordered, I asked about them, and of course they were there. What really surprised me was their suggestion that I just take them back to him, without any fitting...Its too bad their office staff is like this, because I'm not too sure I want to go back in future years, I'm sure there are probably other eye places that actually want my business.. read more

This review is overdue but worth noting. I was visiting Nocatee in October to check out real estate. Had an early morning flight into Jacksonville where is was considerably warmer. Took off my glasses and placed them on the seat of the rental car while I removed my sweater and then proceeded to sit on my glasses. Stopped in this store and they made the repairs at no charge! I would not recommend this place. I have never written a review before until now, but I felt obligated after I experienced the unprofessional and rude behavior from the woman that was checking me in for my appointment. I do not have vision insurance and I explained that to their staff member prior to making the appointment and explained that my health insurance pays for an annual eye exam. I received a call prior to my appointment from a confused staff member about my insurance paying for the exam and when I left the conversation, I was told that they would be checking my health insurance coverage and that they would see me at my scheduled appointment. I never received a call back stating that my insurance would not cover the eye exam and when I walked into my appointment, I was told that I was being charged $175.00 for the eye exam and that my insurance does not cover the exam. I explained that I never received a call from their office that my insurance did not cover the exam, as has been the case in the past with other eye doctors. The front desk woman was very rude about the situation and was talking to me in a rude and unprofessional manner and said, "Well what would you like to do?" I have never called anyone out on their rude behavior, but in this instance I was so shocked at her rude words and behavior toward me, that I actually said, "There is no reason for you to be rude to me." I told her that I would not be able to do the appointment based on the information about my health insurance coverage and that I would need to speak with my health insurance company and that I did not wish to have the appointment because of her bad attitude about the situation. She even said, "Fine leave." I am still shaken up by how rude this woman was and at least I can warn others not to do business here and spare someone else from dealing with this extremely rude woman. I welcome the doctors to contact me to let them know about this particular employee and how unprofessional my appointment was handled because this woman is going to hurt your business and she needs to be fired. I own my own company and if one of my employees behaved this way I would want to know and I would fire her. read more

I am so tired of going to places and being given excuse after excuse of why people can't do what they commit to doing especially when you pay for the service. So after having to deal with a very bad experience at one eye place I chose to try this as my third choice. I went in the store which is beautiful, with new stylish selections, even if the air freshener is overpowering. I went to TJ who told me I could order and receive a pair of sunglasses with shaded lenses. Unfortunately, when I picked them up it appeared he realized the mistake but chose not to say anything to me since usually one gives the person a mirror to see how the glasses fit. Once again, no proper fitting from a lens associate. These glasses at least felt as if they actually fit and so I went home thinking they were what I ordered (ticked that I constantly have to feel like I am inspecting my purchases against an order sheet but guess this what I have to do in the future otherwise I don't get what I pay for, so annoying) Once I went home, I realized the glasses were clearly not the shaded lenses I ordered. Then when I contacted the store TJ said he would reorder and get them in and they would be in soon. Once again, I had to follow up since most people DO NOT follow up with me, only to be told by one associate that they had not been reordered, however, when TJ spoke on that same call he said the lenses had not arrived but they had been ordered and it was my insurance delaying the correct lenses. I had to followup AGAIN only to be told they would be in on Friday or Monday. AGAIN, I called today, Friday to see if the right lenses had arrived only to be told TJ would call me back. Once again no call received one hour before closing today so followed up AGAIN to find out if my lenses were in since none of the other associates care or were evidently capable of finding out this simple information. I was once again put off and told that TJ would call back as he was with another patient. FINALLY, TJ actually called back only to put more delay and now say instead of receiving the lenses Monday or Friday it probably would not be till Monday or Tuesday. Why is it so difficult to get what a person pays for?!?!? I paid a lot of money and still get one excuse after another from people when trying to get the correct goods or service, it is absolutely ridiculous!!!!!!! Yeah, received my complete and correct glasses and lenses finally today, Tuesday and I didn't have to followup, an individual from the store called me to let me know my lenses came in and the time it took to fix them and pickup them up was reasonable. read more
