I've now lived in Gainesville for 2.5 years and for 2.5 years I kept saying "I need to try Atlas Pizza....". @thebestatlaspizza is in the downtown square where parking used to be rough but with the new decks, parking is now much easier. My friends at @northmetroeateries said "best....pizza.... in the north!!!". WOW, expectations are high so I had to hurry up and try them! Well, I can now confidently say that Atlas Pizza IS the best pizza other than Antico who is still my #1. The crust, the sauce, the menu and different options you have... AMAZING. Pictured here (in order) is their POTATO pizza (you heard me), BUFFALO CHICKEN (my favorite), THAI PIZZA (My wife's favorite), and their bread sticks which I'm warning you... along with their sauce and butter sauce, you'll be in trouble by the time the pizza makes it out so make sure that you share!!! Atlas Pizza can get quite busy but you can call and set reservations when needed. I stopped by on a random weekday for lunch and there was no need for a reservation. Poor Atlas - pizza apparently still tasty but the service is terrible now. First they put our names down and one hour later checked and tables were turned but never called us for our outdoor seating request. Located in downtown Gainesville on the square, you'll find this place under the blue awning on the right.(all one way traffic) Parking is around the square, so it's hit or miss. Outside seating is pet-friendly and has about 4 tables. Inside there are several booths and 5-6 four top tables that can be pushed together for a crowd. We were a party of 7 and ordered 2 large meat and supreme pizzas. They were loaded with toppings and the crust held up great! Edges were crispy and the taste? Delicious and fresh. Exactly what I like. The waitress kept a step ahead keeping our glasses filled( excellent service!) we left with everyone stuffed and happy! Great place before seeing the Christmas lights for us. This is my favorite pizza place in the city! The pics and salad are great, especially the pizza. It's on the square downtown and it's beautiful. You do have to fight for parking but that's to be expected on the square. My only issue is that to go orders are placed outside and picked up outside. A few weeks ago I was here just after or before it snowed and it was cooolllllddd! They wouldn't answer their phone so I placed the order and stood near the door instead of outside until my food was ready. I brought it to their attention. The server called from my phone & their phone didn't ring at all. Another lady was complaining about them never answering the phone that day. I was hoping the issue would be fixed. I'm here again today and thankfully the weather is mild BUT yet again they did not answer their phone. When I got here there were two other customers complaining about them not answering their phones. I placed an order & asked for the manager. He was nice but said they'd turned the phones off on Super Bowl Sunday because they were busy! My head was screaming dude you're losing money! I informed him about the other times I called and there was no answer. I did commend him on the food & ambiance. He apologized but I need them to do better. I don't want to stop doing business but waiting outside and ordering when I get here, considering all other things, I might have to find another spot and I know other customers are considering that too. Update: It took over 30 minutes for me to get the food. The two girls that were taking and placing to go orders were talking instead of doing what they were supposed to do. They looked up and noticed that I was still there after 30 minutes, they were surprised and suddenly one of them went to go get my food and I didn't like that at all. But after the owner or manager or whoever he was told me, an African American woman, that I needed to get over slavery because it never happened to me, I lost my appetite for the place. I was not even talking about slavery and was having a conversation with someone else who asked me a question about something in history. This was after he offered me a glass of wine and seemed like a nice gentleman up to this point. I did not want to post this and I wish this never happened but it happened. I felt helpless and powerless hearing this because I was the only African American woman sitting there while he said this and no one came to my defense. It's hard to find good pizza in Georgia and Atlas Pizza is great! They have many choices including gluten free. I got a small personal pizza with mushrooms. There were very few mushrooms on the pizza but everything tasted great. The sauce and crust are delicious. You don't have to throw away the crust! It is pillowy but has a good density and chew. It was busy at lunch time and you could sit outside. Service was super. (The one downside was when I called, it was an old message saying that they were closed. You couldn't place an order by phone.) Decided to order some takeout from Atlas Pizza upon recommendation from a friend. I ordered a large half sausage & mushroom/half cheese pizza. What I like about this pizza is they certainly don't skimp on the cheese, pizza was extra cheesy :). They also load up on your toppings as well. Flavor of the crust was also solid. I believe they brush it with some sort of garlic butter blend. My only issue is I wished they cooked it a little bit longer. The crust was a little bit on the softer side. My husband and I live almost 45 minutes away from Atlas Pizza in Corning. We drive all the way there for the incredible pizza as well as the incredible service. There are a lot of tables for sitting, a gorgeous bar upstairs, and it is very clean and immaculately kept. I cannot say enough about Lori. She is an incredible server who connects with patrons and does a phenomenal job. I have many food allergies but Atlas Pizza uses such clean ingredients that I have never had a reaction even though I react to almost every other pizza place. It is the best pizza I've ever had in my life. I took my daughter and son-in-law there after they returned from Italy and they were both unconvinced until they took their first bite. Even they agreed it's the best pizza they've had outside of Italy. Truly remarkable. I highly recommend the house sauce and house cheese blend. You can't go wrong here, however. I also love their iced tea and I am a major iced tea snob. They fresh brew it every day and you can tell. It is delicious! Everything they sell is amazing. And after this most recent trip i wont go back. Waited an hour for our pizza and nothing came out, they weren't even busy either, only a few other tables. A number of folks seemed noticeably pissed off as well. However a few regulars came is and were well taken care of quickly. I watched 2 different tables get seated and served and leave in the time i waited. Those folks seemed to be known by the workers. I guess its that kind of place where they give preferential treatment. This isnt the first time ive seen this either. It wouldnt have been an issue if I had at least gotten served too. After an hour of waiting we left. I got the impression that they could care less. read more

Sauce was decent and server was friendly even if very slow, they were busy on a Saturday, probably not her fault. Pizza is an odd brick of thick cardboard covered in Costco cheese, that's the best description I could give. Would absolutely never choose to eat this again. This is the best calzone I have had in my entire life. It was by accident me and my squad were even in Gainesville Georgia, but this seems to have been divine intervention. No mere mortal could have caused our chosen restaurant in Athens, Georgia (about an hour away) to have closed the day before we were set to arrive. The craziest part is that they closed for a Peach and Pig festival! No matter the reason or the methodology, we landed in Gainesville on the fifth day of our road trip. The Pizza here actually made me burst into tears. I knew that no matter where I go, or what I do, nothing will ever top, Atlas Pizza. We began our meal as I think all meals should, an order of cheese sticks. These sticks were not just ooey, but also gooey. This created an ooey gooey feeling that is the only real requirement of great cheese sticks. They had tons of cheese, but not so much that you wouldn't be able to cut it, if you needed to. Do not skip these or you will receive completely warranted resentment from me, via the inter webs. Now on to my selection for happiness. I chose the Philly Cheesesteak Calzone. If you thought a Philly was meant to be eaten on bread, think again. The calzones here make your stomach feel like it actually does have limits...that are totally meant to be surpassed. I ate half of the calzone and began cursing the very ground I walked on, merely because my stomach was failing me, by not allowing me to eat more! I know, I know, cursing the ground for my stomach being a pansy feels petty but hey I am what I am. And what I am is one half a calzone from enlightenment.
