You know the feeling at a corporate chain like Jack's bike store? They're trying to fit everything they can in your shopping cart and grin as they take your money. This is the opposite. Good night.

It was a pretty simple job that I assumed wouldn't take long. At first, they asked me to leave the bike overnight, but after explaining my situation, they decided to help me out, which I genuinely appreciated. The staff member was friendly and helpful, and the work was completed when I came back. That said, I was a bit surprised by the overall experience. For $40, I expected a little more clarity and consistency. When I asked about labor pricing, I was told they charge different prices for different things, which felt a little unusual and unclear to me. Also, while I understand I didn't specifically request sealant for the front tire, I just assumed it would be part of the service since the rear tire was being handled. In hindsight, that may have been my expectation, but it still felt like something that could have been communicated more clearly. On top of that, the pricing just felt high for the amount of work done, especially given how quick the job likely was. It gave me the impression that I was charged a bit more due to the timing and urgency of the request. Overall, I appreciated the willingness to help me out last minute and the friendly service, but between the pricing and lack of clarity, it left me with mixed feelings. I probably wouldn't return based on this experience.

The listing described it as "A-" condition with only minor scuffs and a new brake cable. After he rode the bike his friend's father told him to pass on that the bike had an issue, I then fully inspected the bike and discovered the front fork/headset had significant lateral play and could visibly shift when the bike was stationary. Taking it apart, I found electrical tape had been wrapped under the top cap to act as a spacer, allowing the bolt to tighten fully while the headset itself stayed loose. The proper aluminum spacers were missing entirely. They costed us under $10 shipped for the aluminum spacers. This is a real safety issue, not a cosmetic one as a loose headset will cause premature wear and can be dangerous. We fixed it ourselves with parts from Amazon and a YouTube tutorial, so we weren't looking for a refund. I emailed the shop (addressed to Jon) explaining what we found, purely so they could catch this during inspection on future used bikes. I never received a response, and the original listing was quietly taken down shortly after. I want to be fair: many people clearly have great experiences with this shop, and I'm not saying this was intentional. But a safety issue like this should have been caught in a basic pre-sale check, and an unanswered email about a safety concern is disappointing from a shop with this kind of reputation. If you're buying a used bike here, I'd recommend inspecting the bike fully yourself before riding it. I didn't take pictures as I honestly didn't know what I was looking at. Also didn't realize that it was just black electrical tape at first.
