We hired ATS to inspect a gas line for a pool project. Their inspector came out and approved the gas line, despite it not meeting city regulations. After tracking down the inspector, he denied responsibility and demanded he talk to our contractor vs tell me if my pipe was safe. The conversation ended by him hanging up on me by my questioning if we had an issue with our line, yet him already approving it. I then went to report the incident to his manager, who confirmed the pipe should not have been approved, and he would get back to me with what I needed to do. I followed up with him three times, and he's ignored every message. We paid for an inspection from ATS to know if our gas line was installed safely to have a tech approve an unsafe pipe, deny it, communicate unprofessionally, his boss ghost us, and after 3 weeks, we still do not know if our gas line is safe. Flagging for the city that ATS has approved an unsafe line and will not communicate nor follow up after multiple attempts. read more

I called ATS engineers looking for a consult to possibly have them out and see if we could expand our breakfast bar opening by 18", without any major structural impacts or having to add in any new supports. We're getting new counters and this would have made it possible to input a larger piece of stone there. I was directed to email Julian Morton some pictures and a brief explanation of what I would like to do. This way he could tell me if he could help. After emailing him, he called me back promptly. He informed that while he would certainly come out for a consult, it was very unlikely that this opening could be extended. Looking at the photos, he said that the supports would be right at the openings edge and pulling the wall back 18" without adding additional supports would likely not be possible. He said that is just how they build those areas. His price to come out was very reasonable, however, he said that if he did come out, he would most likely be telling me the same thing, just with a charge. Basically he gave me some quick, but great advice over the phone that resulted in my no longer needing a consult. I thoroughly appreciated his honesty and desire to help, above all else. He also confirmed that removing the arches above the opening and dropping the pony wall down below would be fine. I'm breaking my no-Yep review stance for Paul at ATS. He really came through when we were one day from closing. Due to an oversight in the construction process a few fence posts needed to be added to our survey. Without them our closing would have been delayed. Paul went over and beyond for the posts to be shot and added to our survey in such an efficient manner that everyone at closing asked, "how did you get this done?" Well, I spoke to Paul. And he saved our closing and all the headaches of having to reschedule movers during a stressful few days. read more

DO NOT WORK WITH ATS. We used ATS for multiple surveys of an outdoor loggia/pool house/6' wall addition project around our pool yard. On ATS's last survey of our property, they charged a highly inflated amount ($1,000) and stated that their crew was at our home performing the survey for 8.5 hours. They were not, and we have security cameras on all sides of our home that show this. I offered to provide this footage to ATS, but Paul Utterback stated that "My charge is basically how long the crew took to do the job. We have GPS on the trucks and can see how long the crews were at each job....Our GPS clearly shows the trucks were present for the hours invoiced." Again, we have security cameras that show that their crews (and their trucks) were barely at our house, and they certainly were not at our home for 8.5 hours. When we asked them about this, they reduced the bill to $750, which was still $350 more than the prior surveys that they had done (other than an initial $1,000 survey of the entire property/lot/project). When our contractor called ATS last week to schedule the final survey, Paul Utterback told him that ATS is too busy to do a survey of our property again. I e-mailed Paul to confirm this, and he stated, "He's 100% correct, we are too busy to take on any more work." I immediately e-mailed him back and asked for confirmation that ATS is too busy indefinitely to conduct surveys for our property, and he has not responded. Paul Utterback's actions toward our asking him questions about his invoice are almost certainly the reason that ATS is "too busy" to take on any more work. Paul Utterback and ATS are clearly retaliating for questioning their invoice. Regardless, we have found another company to complete the last survey that we need, and they are far less expensive than ATS (we are saving money by not using ATS). They are also polite and responsive. If you read ATS's other reviews, you will find many other negative reviews that are consistent with ours. read more

I received bids from a total of 3 companies. The bid from ATS was right in the middle. I decided to select them because I received excellent communication just during the bidding process. I worked with Miles the most and Paul would chime in as necessary. Miles was completely honest about their timeline (which was a little longer than I'd hoped) and kept me up to date about when his team would be out to do the work. He educated me on the process and allowed me to ask as many questions as I needed. Miles also made suggestions in order to prevent us from having unnecessary work done. The team that came out was quiet and courteous. I received my report quickly after the work was completed. [Time really flies!] But, the service and professionalism of the ATS inspector, Carl, were so outstanding that I still want to sing his praises. He was TERRIFIC when he inspected my new A/C installation in Buda (July 2019). He was SO thorough and took time to explain several aspects of the installation to me as well as the reasons why he insisted on a certain size fuse in the fuse box. Unfortunately I have had a terrible experience with ATS and would not recommend them to anyone. They lost a report of mine for over a month that was vital for my project to get it's occupancy certificate. I called many times with no one that knew what was going on responding to my issue. Once it was finally found I asked for a engineers letter required by the city. I was told they could help with that, then that they couldn't and then again that they could. There was no mention of any additional fees for this letter. After waiting and waiting for this to be resolved I was then asked to pay an additional 250 dollars for the letter required by the city. Some people at ATS did their best to help but many namely Angeli refused to even return my multiple calls and didn't even bother to apologize for royally screwing up. It's clear they aren't in good communication with one another and will charge you at every turn regardless of their mistakes that cost you money. read more

I've used ATS for 3 separate surveys (meets/bounds & topo) over the last 6 months and each time they've been excellent to work with. I started the process pretty green with a fairly complicated property, but Paul has taken the time to educate me through the whole process to get the best results for our project. He and his staff have always returned my emails and phone calls promptly. The market is pretty busy right now and no sub, trade or service is going to get to you as fast as you'd like, but ATS has consistently been up-front, honest, and followed through with what they said that they would do for the price they said they would do it for (which I found to be reasonable compared to 6 other firms that I looked into). Regarding the quality of work, I have never had an issue and as a matter of fact my architect commented on the high quality of the drawings during our last meeting and plans to recommend them to other clients in the future. I've even asked for additional overlays (FEMA flood maps, water quality zones) after the fact and ATS got them on that same day. I highly recommend ATS and will not be looking anywhere else for a survey in the future. read more

I located the page on their site which has information for residential surveys. It instructs you to call Paul Utterback, with a number and gives his extension. I gave him a call and said "Hi Paul, i'm interested in a residential survey from you guys and wondering if I can request a quote" he responded "Well unless you want something mid to late January I cant help you". I then asked if it was possible for me to receive a quote anyway and he rudely responded that it depends on the property. I then asked if they have a quote request process and he arrogantly said he does all sorts of properties sometimes million dollar properties and it varies. I literally felt like this had to be a joke. Is this how you operate your business??? What do I have to do to receive the information necessary to try to get a quote from your guys. This company should be very very ashamed at how rudely I was treated. Don't waste your time, and if you do decide to contact them STAY AWAY FROM PAUL UTTERBACK! read more
