Fun spot with no menu. Drinks are A++. Speak-easy style bar. You have to wait outside before being let in. My only complaint is that I did wait 20min for seats for 2, and when we were finally let in, the place was only about half full. If you know me, you know that a certain type of bar exists that really just checks all the boxes for me. While I love a great many bars, when push comes to shove, I tend to favor plain, very dark, featureless holes with nothing but outstanding music, drink, and conversation. This is a fairly apt description of Attaboy. Let's get it out of the way and let it be said that Attaboy is a NYC transplant, a well-known one at that. It's about as authentically "Nashville" as I am, so if you don't want to feel like you're in a dark, trendy NYC cocktail bar, I would highly advise that you go elsewhere. To enter, knock on the door. The staff will escort you to seating if available, if not, they will take your name and have you wait. No reservations. Some might find this annoying, but to me it's a stroke of genius. This helps ensure the highest level of quality and service for as many guests as possible - these guys very clearly know what they are doing. I can't speak for anyone else, but I've been to very highly rated cocktail bars that get too crowded, and when that happens, the service, and worse, the quality of the cocktails, inevitably suffer. This is a bar for aficionados of bars, full stop. It's not a place you go to watch the game, dance, or really do much of anything beyond sit and converse over great drinks. That's it. It's a place where there is no cocktail menu. You get to have a real conversation with your bartender as to what kind of flavors, spirits you're interested in drinking, after which said bartender will craft a cocktail expressly for you. I had my bartender riff on the Negroni, and after that, I asked for absinthe, and that resulted in an incredible absinthe colada. Enjoying cocktails doesn't get much better than this. You'll drop a little coin for this privilege, of course, as you'll be paying New York-ish prices - there are cheaper bars in Nashville with decent cocktails, but this is a special experience and well worth it, in my opinion. read more

Finally! Attaboy is pretty far away from home, so I finally got to try it last weekend after a dinner nearby. Since we were a little confused when we found the building, there are a few parking spots behind the building. Otherwise, I think people park on the street. When you arrive, you knock on their door and are promptly let in. It was fairly busy when we arrived, so we had to wait at a standing bar area for a seat. The inside is pretty small with a full bar, 6 booths and a few couches. I would not recommend going with a large group. Since there are no menus, one of the bartenders came over to ask what we like/dislike in a drink. For some reason, I thought this was going to be a bit more elaborate. As a heads up, apparently they don't serve vodka. I asked for something sour or citrusy, any liquor but gin, and no cucumber. You can pretty much ask for whatever suits you! Eventually we were served our cocktails - one that was a modern old fashioned and one "New York sour." Both cocktails were really delicious, but I guess I was hoping for something a little more creative. It seems like they have a group of cocktails they usually make and semi-tailor it to what you say. I loved the ice they used for some of the cocktails! They have large blocks frozen and chip away at them for each cocktail that contains ice. Each cocktail is $14. The overall atmosphere is dark and moody. This is a great place to take a date or grab an after dinner (or even before dinner) drink! I'm not sure it's terribly practical for somewhere to have several drinks or with a group due to the size and price. I've been wanting to try attaboy for ages and finally got the chance tonight! Loved the speakeasy feel - very romantic vibes and a unique experience in that there's no menu. You basically tell them what flavors you like & they put together a drink based on your description. I was a bit intimidated by this at first, but was really impressed by the drinks they came up with! I told them I like sweet, spicy & tequila - and was impressed with the delicious & super unique drink they made for me. Speakeasy heavens for anyone who loves em! You tell your server the type of drinks you like and he/she makes it! Cool decor, low lights, and relevant music. I have four stars because we had to wait and the host never called us back. Instead we walked back to the door. Downtown (Broadway) is cool, even reminiscent of a lil' Vegas. Then you get to exploring a bit and you find all of the unique spots, and Attaboy is easily in the top 2. The outside is unassuming and the wait can be a minute, but Cole has numerous recommendations for spots to check out nearby and will give you a ring when a spot opens up. The ambience inside is perfectly crafted and, to be honest, would fit in better in the Brooklyn nightlife scene, which makes this place even more interesting for a Nashville speakeasy. Good music, beautiful bar and low lights. The menu, or lack thereof, is as deep as your imagination runs--just no vodka. We sat on a little corner and enjoyed our drinks, had short, pleasant dialogue with Cole about the establishment itself and left. Dark green accents. Lots of candlelight. Of course, you do have to knock to get let in. Which gives it the "cool factor". Inside it's VERY small. Seating wise I would guess 45 people. SERVICE. I tried to get in the week it opened and was a massive mistake. 3 hour wait... and the door waitress had a jacked up system of who was in line. Fast forward to last night. We got in but had to wait for bar seating (though ton of booths were open) so sat us in the little waiting area. They did still allow you to order while you waited. However - we totally got cut in line for bar seating by friends of either the bartender or the door girl - as they walked in and got sat immediately. We finally got sat after our first drink was finished.... first drink took 20 minutes to get y'all. 20 minutes - there were maybe 15 people in this bar. DRINKS. These bad boys are pricey. $13 a pop. I said I like whiskey, sweet drinks. Both drinks I got we alright, if anything they were really really liquor heavy. Drink with caution here. Again, the drinks were okay, nothing memorable- I've had better crafted cocktails in Nashville (see Bar Soverign) OVERALL. I can say I went to Attaboy but I don't plan on coming back. Rosemary's (in the same neighborhood) does the cool crafted cocktail vibe WAY better and is much for chill and less elitist. Hit them up over Attaboy. read more

Much like the other negative reviews... The doorman was an elitist jerk. We were quoted a wait time and our number was taken, and we never got any kind of follow-up. We went back after 90 minutes and other parties were being let right in. We were told there was a complaint about us when we weren't even present. Don't waste your time here. read more

Went here a month or so ago and this place is trash. You have to basically beg to be let into the place. They made us wait outside, in the cold, for like 15 minutes. Then when they came, the guy was rude and interrogated us about why we were there. What other reason is there to go to a bar? Why do I need to be questioned to enter one!? Then, we get in and they want us to wait by the door until there's a table. We offered to just stand by our friends but, apparently it's sitting room only. Even though they don't serve any food! So why do we need a table? It made no sense. Half our party was already inside, but we still waited around until more table space opened up. Inside, all the workers were hipster guys in Hawaiian shirts and crappy attitudes. The music was terrible and loud. The tables were high-back booths that really cut off any communication between us and our friends. And they seemed angry anytime we got up to talk to the other table. They wouldn't even take orders until all of us were seated at the table. Even though we didn't all want to get drinks, yet. When we were finally seated, they told us that we couldn't order a drink. We had to describe the flavor we liked and then they would make whatever they want. They wouldn't tell us what they were making or how much it'd cost. Which is honestly a terrible business model. While we waited on our drinks, a table near the rest of our party opened up and we asked to be moved there. The waiter gave us so much attitude. He got completely hostile with one of my friends and came off super threatening. He got into leaned into the booth and even got into my friends face. They tried to seat someone else there and we had to go and ask that party ourselves if they could switch. All we wanted to do is be near our friend who was moving away. When the drinks finally arrived, they were mostly ice and they all pretty much tasted the same. Nothing special at all. I don't even drink but they pressured me into getting a mock-tail. It was flavorless and boring. And then the bill came. 62 bucks for 2 tiny drinks and a mock-tail. How freaking absurd is that?!? Especially when you could get a better drink at a TGI Friday's that what we got at Attaboy. I told my friends to never ever suggest taking me to that trash place again. read more

With so many speakeasy type of bars I love it when one makes a statement! You have to knock on the door and then someone lets you in (I think they have cameras because no way they heard that knock haha!) We arrived at 8:30 PM and were seated promptly with a party of 5. The vibe was cool and very similar to many speakeasys I have been to. However, they do not have a drink menu! What a bar without a drink menu? Well that's because they are mixologists that know what they are doing. I thought it was so cool to have someone ask me what I like (alcohol, flavors, fruits etc) and then surprise me with an amazing cocktail. I took two friends who have never been to a speakeasy before and they were impressed! The only thing to note is you get what you pay for! Expect to pay at least $15/drink.
