Talented individuals! My friend's wife picked the play & location, but we were happy to join since her & her hubby have done improvisation before. A small theater, but you should check it out for an inexpensive community theatrical performance! The price was amazing for students and every seat was filled! We arrived to watch Titanic, which was more about the history of what happened to the actual ship ie.) the internal reasons and a parody of what happened throughout. Not too many props, but the costumes were accurate! Good use of space as well! ie.) Different rooms or inside/outdoor lighting. Downfalls were that I couldn't hear half of what some of the actors/actresses were saying/singing, the stage is super close, and the interior is outdated (seats & stage). I would recommend renting a costume here, because that was the only decent and intricate item. I do like to support local places & community outings, but I suggest an upgraded location/space. Overall, everyone did a wonderful job and keep growing as wonderful individuals! Flyers were handed out, the show started promptly, and there was an intermission! 2 items for $5, in which we got coffee & popcorn. The play was a few hours long I think 2-4 hrs is appropriate, which is worth your money! Come for a cute date w/ your friends or SO & support your community theater even if you are not a local like myself! read more

I recently purchased tickets to a show at the Attic Community Theater and went in with high hopes that this would be another in a long line of theaters throughout OC that I would frequent. What turned out as high hopes resulted into disappointment in the end. Let me start by saying that the setup of the theater and the production itself were quite good. The seats were comfortable and all faced the stage and there truly is not a bad seat in the house of this 80+ seat theater. The show I was attending was The Grapes of Wrath, a somber story of a family who is driven from their farm in Oklahoma due to drought and hardships and makes their way to California in hopes of a new start. This Steinbeck tale was told superbly and the cast was great but unfortunately that is where the good ended. The biggest problem I had was that the theatergoers here are primarily family and friends of the cast which I normally don't have any qualms about but the people I experiences were talking and hooting and hollering throughout making it almost unbearable for those around them. After sitting through the first act and endearing this the entire time I literally got up and walked out of the theater and did not return for the 2nd act of the play. I have been to numerous community theaters in the area and have never experienced this elsewhere and this definitely is a deterrent for me to come back and check out other shows which is a shame as they have a great selection of upcoming shows on the schedule. If anyone at the theater reads this, I seriously advise you to put in whatever measures possible to keep the crowd noise to a minimum so as to not ruin the experience for the rest of us. I understand that family and friends get excited to see their peers on stage but this is no reason to be obnoxious. I attempted to move seats during the performance only to encounter the same thing elsewhere so it seems that no seat is safe. I would have to wowed by a show to come back here again. 5 star quality for the show and 1 star for the crowd. read more

We LOVE this theater so much, the most comfortable chairs in any small playhouse and their current show, "Catch Me If You Can" was just about one of the best small plays I've seen. Kathy Paladino, has got to be the best director in small theater and was so perfect with the cast she choose, Jeffrey Bonser blew us away with his singing and acting, he belongs in Hollywood!! Bob Fetes, a real seasoned actor didn't disappoint as another main character, who was funny and yet excellent in his performance. I'm going back to see the show again, it was too good for words. The theater is just so quaint, absolutely adorable, and they make the best brownies served at intermission, the patrons line up for them they are so good. Jim Huffman, the owner of the theater, wears many hats, he totally surprised us all by having a lead role in the show too, and was incredible as drunk! There were 32 of us that went from my theater group, and we all were in awe of how this small production, led by Kathy Paladino was such a hit and so enjoyable, I didn't want it to end!! "Seussical Jr. the Musical," a colorful amalgamation of many of Dr. Seuss' most imaginative and most celebrated books, as presented and performed by a "teen and under cast," drew sold-out shows for its energetic, two-week run at The Attic. From "Oh, the Thinks You Can Think" to "Green Eggs and Ham," from "Horton Hears a Who!" to "One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish," from "The Cat in the Hat" to "McElligot's Pool," the stories, ones we've all come to love as kids, were present in song. Our friend's daughter (Thing One) as well as the rest of the very talented kids in the cast did such a great job! The Cat in the Hat--sometimes our host and MC, sometimes outside observer and narrator, sometimes devil's advocate--decidedly creates conflict (as expected, I suppose) in order to keep the story moving. And Horton, our main character, endeavors to protect the tiny people of Who-ville living on a floating speck of dust. The kids, you could tell, had worked hard for this, and they shined. Proud parents abound! And the Tony Award goes to...all of them! Psssssst... By the way, there's a rumor milling about around The Attic. Whether or not there is any truth in it, it's shared that the "World's Best Brownies" are served here. You'll decide. Another plus: at least during "Seussical," patrons were allowed to bring their own snacks and drinks into their intimate, 87-seat house. I liked that, although I'd brought nothing. :( read more

What a wonderful find this was! I've been on a quest to scout out all the community theaters in my area. It's in a refurbished warehouse off of Segerstrom (if you're coming down Slater, it's right after Susan St.). There are two bathrooms and a place to buy snacks before the show or during intermission, which you can eat during the performance. The theater itself is very cozy and intimate. The stage is a decent size and they utilize a giant screen on stage to project the backgrounds. Clever. I attended an evening performance of "Little Shop of Horrors" and had a great time. It was almost a full house (I think there are about 80 seats) Everyone is super friendly and the talent was all there. I was not disappointed with anyone in the cast (which by the way, was of all age groups- a few adults, a few teens, and a child). The set was clearly homemade, but looked great. The lighting was superb. The seats are comfortable. I would have turned up the sound system just a tad, but I got use to the noise level after a while. Also, there were a few people that came in late, which really disrupted the performance. The tickets are pretty inexpensive. $18 for quality entertainment? I'm sold on that. I was not disappointed. Still giving them five stars, but wanted to update because I went to their production of "One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest" on Friday and it was absolutely incredible. First of all, I purchased a ticket through Goldstar and couldn't make the show so I called the theater directly and the owner, Jim, let me change the date on my ticket with absolutely no issue. The casting for this particular production was spot-on. I've seen the movie a million times and I feel in tune with the characters and they really could not have gotten it better. Every single actor deserves praise, but in particular the gal who played Nurse Ratched, who I believe I've seen in another production here, absolutely KILLED it. She looks like a young Bette Davis and her acting and presence were akin to some of the greats from my favorite 1940's era films. What a gorgeous girl and tremendous actress (no I don't know her personally, I just loved her). The actor playing Billy was also superb and really sold the audience on his role. Of course the lead deserves praise, he is very obviously a seasoned actor and he did a tremendous job as McMurphy. This theater is without a doubt my favorite in Orange County and I will attend anything and everything they put on in the future. read more

Went to this theater for the first time to watch the play Harvey. The outside is unassuming, but the inside is a respectable theater - there's not a bad seat in the house. The show was really good and I enjoyed the performances - well done. The concession area had an eclectic display of costumes that were interesting to see. The owner was engaged and his passion for theater arts shows. Prices are really fair. I'd certainly recommend this venue, we had a good time. read more

Attic is a true blessing to the surrounding community . They offer a variety of shows that are affordable for families in a lovely intimate settings. I saw How to Succeed there a few weeks ago. What a great show! The choreography especially was great. It had all of the appropriately rinky-dink budget related issues that make community theater charming but a nice atmosphere and a very clearly talented set of actors and direction team. I have done theater my whole life: educational, community, and professional and I loved the show. It reminded me why I love live theater and showed me the very best of the origin of community theater when you grab a few people you know and put on a play. Because of this positive experience, I highly recommended that one of my students (I teach singing) go and audition there. She is a high school student with grown up chops and would be an asset to any cast despite being inexperienced. She reported back to me that her audition went really well and she had been cast in the ensemble of her first community theater production. I was thrilled for her and proud. Then her mom told me that they were going to have to pay $375 "tuition" for her to be in the show. I was horrified. Evidently it includes 12 tickets, a t-shirt and a DVD of the show, and is a total rip-off! I won't be sending any more of my students to audition for them again. They can either afford to put on shows or they can't but they shouldn't be charging children to be in adult casts unless everyone pays "tuition." Be warned of this ridiculous opportunist nonsense. read more

"Moon Over Buffalo" -- horrible, horrible production. Slapstick, broad comedy is not made so by actors who are literally yelling and screaming at the top of their lungs, but that appears to be what the director here thinks. We couldn't even understand the actors, because their words were so distorted by the screeching. The male lead ran down the aisle from behind the audience and screamed in the face of the woman sitting in front of me. Good thing he chose her, as I would have decked him if he'd done it to me. I don't know who directs the productions, but he or she isn't doing anything to help his actors. This show, which originally starred Carol Burnett, featured an actress who thinks acting means doing a bad Carol Burnett imitation. Two actors actually had long strings of drool fall from their mouths as they screamed. Disgusting. The Carol Burnett mimic had a "mother" who was played by a woman who was clearly younger than she was. This show made junior high theater with boys whose voices are cracking seem like Shakespeare. If we could have walked out during the performance without disturbing the audience (90% had to be family members), we would have. Bad casting, bad acting, bad timing, bad lighting. All in all, this production was a train wreck. My husband bought tickets through something called "Goldstar. This is our second bad experience through this source. We're done. Zero stars. read more

Just left during the intermission of Catch Me if You Can because the preteens behind us wouldn't stop talking. One kept blowing into the back of my best friend's head, another kept putting her mouth to the back of my moms head, purposely coughing loudly, and they kept making rude comments throughout the entire show, even when I politely told them to stop talking. They were singing the songs and talking about the actors on stage so I definitely wouldn't be surprised if they knew them. Go to a regional theater if you want to see a good show with classy guests. The singing, acting choreography, stage, seats, lighting etc... was SO GOOD! We can't wait to come back and become regulars. The cast greeting us in the hall as we exited was really nice. I enjoy theater and when popular plays and musicals are performed, I become quickly interested. The Attic is equivalent to the "Mamma & Papa" establishment. It s a small theater house that produces popular plays and musicals with talented actors and actresses. Here is what I experienced. The Attic offers workshops for aspiring actors and actresses who would like to dabble in theater. The workshops are reasonably prices compared to others. SEATING The auditorium hold less than 100 spectators. That is great for us because getting in and out was very quick. Every seat was a great seat. heads in the way were not an issue and everything cane be seen from every seat. CONCESSIONS The concession stand consisted of water and some overpriced candy. They are ok with you eating during the performance. RESTROOMS Restrooms are clean and ready available. This was an enjoyable experience. I can now see many plays and musicals with the entire family at a reasonable price. Definately worth a first visit. read more

Just saw "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" - it was brilliant! All the actors/actresses were very talented. Singing was sometimes overwhelmed by the music, but the voice is very clear. The show reminded me of the corporate culture in Japan for some reason, but they portrayed in a much more funny, comical way. I am very glad that they maintain the open seating policy read more

Know before you go: This is not traditional community theatre. This venue charges people to be in the productions - is a school of sorts. Had I known that, I never would have paid to see it. As a community theatre - this is NOT for me. It would have been nice to have been made aware by Living Social that this theatre is a school of sorts, and that to be in the productions, the "actors" pay a fee. Now - I heard long ago that an actor will never have to pay to act - that would have been my first clue to run far, far in the opposite direction. A good actor gets paid to act. In community theatre - it is most commonly volunteer, or a small stipened paid to the performers. So, of course, you have terrible acting, and a dismally LONG production - in the case of Annie, yesterday...because non actors have no real pace. It wasn't the kids fault- they had a great time. Each of them must sell 10 tickets each (I checked out the website, trying to find out what the heck I had just sat through). I would say 90% of the audience were friends or family of the "actors" - mostly children, and if you are a family member of a child paying to be an actor - you find it all very cute. But as a member of the general public, I found it extremely bad. Also - they need to have the air conditioning fixed. If one is going to sit through an excrutiatingly LONG production, at least it should not be so hot. I wanted to leave at intermission, but we stuck it out. Now - as a BUSINESS, it is genius. Take a bunch of kids who fancy themselves actors, charge a fee, have them agree to sell tickets to supportive and appreciative friends and family - who think they are cute, nomatter what they do...and that is a successful money plan. I respect the idea. BUT I greatly direspect being "had" as a member of the general public who thinks it is community theatre, and ends up being a situation where you feel as if you are crashing someon'e family reunion, where all the kids got together and decided to put on a very mediocre - but cute (if you know them well) show. The Living Social rate was WAY WAY overpriced. As a note - I have a background in community theatre. I performed for years, and have directed, as well. My children grew up doing it - now my oldest daughter is a professional actor and has a production company. I am a great fan of community theatre. Just not this one. I won't be back. read more

We recently saw the production of The Music Man here. I wanted to love it, I really did. So here's what I did love. The cast was awesome. They were talented and never missed a beat. Best of all, they were up there having a great time. The cast had a lot of kids that were amazing. The sets were efficient and they have a cool digital screen that is used as a backdrop. The opening scene on the train was simply amazing, as was Winthrop's "Gary, Indiana". The show was really really wonderful, I loved the really comfortable seats and the size of the theater means you have great views of the stage from every seat. During intermission, they have a snack bar in their costume shop. We picked up an amazing brownie and caramel corn. You can even eat inside the theater, which is nice (but can be distracting). The restrooms are right and clean, quite possible the most wonderful restrooms at a theater ever. Here's what I didn't love. The theatre has very lax rules about photography. They specify "No Flash Photography." This, of course, means people bust out their cell phones and cameras (with digital screens) and VIDEOTAPE the production. This also probably means that there are classless people with no theater etiquette here, but that's another issue. Either way, those screens are HIGHLY distracting and not cool. On this particular night, we also had plenty of family members of the cast there to cheer them on... Except some couldn't control their Facebook addictions long enough to pay attention to the performance while others couldn't stop talking during the middle of every song. You would think that family members of the cast would be the most respectful, but not so much. This theater should provide some etiquette lessons for family members. They really ruined the experience for some in the audience. Another issue was the sound system... Or lack thereof. Being a small theatre, there wasn't amplification for the singers. This meant that it was a struggle to hear them over the recorded accompaniment tracks. It was also obvious that certain singers couldn't hear the track and became off-key as a result. Microphones would have really helped the cause. Lastly, there is hardly any air circulation in the theatre. I looked up to see if I could spot air ducts, but I only saw two very small ones, probably inadequate for the space. So, a huge bravo for the cast for a good show and a few suggestions for the theater. read more

Although I perform here and this may come off as "biased," I have to say that the Attic Theater is one FABULOUS little place! (Ok, it's not so little, but still) The stage is HUGE and it has the ONLY digital backdrop in any theater in the area. It's an amazing "WOW" factor for the audiences. I would be remiss not to mention how great the snacks are! Oh, and the bathrooms are CLEAN-HELLO!!! Prices for tickets are more than reasonable and you're guaranteed a good, quality show here. My school rented out the Attic for a week for our Spring musical. I absolutely fell in love with this little theatre! It is very spacious backstage and is so well kept. The manager was very nice as well and was quite accomodating to our school. I will definitely be coming back to see some shows over the summer and hope to perform here again next year! read more

Absolutely delightful all-around. My first time at The Attic to see "Thoroughly Modern Millie" and I thought the entire experience was terrific community theater. Excellent seats on risers all with good sight-lines, wonderful selection of snacks and drinks, costumes were surprisingly terrific and the sets were very well done. But "The Play's the Thing" as they say, and this one is just wonderful. Great dancing, singing and excellent acting...a fun story well told by accomplished actors. So many beautiful ladies don't hurt, either! Easy plentiful parking, very courteous staff, too. Go see it! I will be back for sure. read more

Just saw The King & I this weekend there and was really taken with the intimacy of the venue and the presentation itself. My wife, 3 year old little one, and me really enjoyed the production. Now I know what community theatre is all about and why it is so appealing; some highs and some lows as far as production and energy levels would ebb at times and rise at others but that is what gives it that spontaneity. The gentleman playing the King was on more professional level as was the actress playing the teacher with all the other cast following. We liked it a lot and gave them a standing ovation because we sat on our butts for 2 hours and enjoyed their work - that was the least we could do and we felt honestly compeled to do so as we really ejoyed it. I am producing Shout! the Mod Musical at the Attic for six shows starting July13th. I chose the Attic because of the Family theater setting, clean and a great place for local entertainment. The owners of the theater are real people dedicated to promoting community theater in the area. My daughter and I just came back from the preformance of "Our Town". What a wonderful surprise! The actors were fantastic! The first act was great...the second act was supurb and the third act was gut-wrenching. There wasn't a dry eye in the house. I cannot wait to go back and to see the next play. read more
