I have been to many Au Bon Pains in my life. This the first one I feel compelled to write a review. The minute I walked up to the shop nestled in the corner of a building on the first floor I felt like it was going to be a warming experience. Unlike the one at Jackson Memorial in Miami Fl where it is so busy you feel like your in a cattle call. The Au Bob Pain at Mercy hospital is another experience.The corner location leaves plenty of room for umbrella tables to sit outside. In front of its recognizable signature yellow wall outside are iron tables and chairs. You can't but help notice the clean outside area. No loose wrappers or garbage cans full. When you come in, the bright colors catch your eye and just the clean organization makes you feel comfortable. I like the self serve pastries with bag and handling wax paper. I was to see that they offered six different varieties of soup. There is a separate section for crafted coffees- which is smart that it doesn't interfere with the sandwich making. There is a separate beverage center for drip coffee and sodas with all the utensils you might need. The storefront looks small but feels really large inside. The best part is the friendly service. The cashier was also the manager and she greeted everyone with a smile and an appropriate timed conversation. I asked if they had military discounts and she responded with a sincere apology for not having it. My order ended up being $5.01 and she said don't worry about the penny. Came by for a quick bite after my doctor's appointment in Mercy Hospital. The restaurant was conveniently located right next door to the professional building which everyone that works in the area refers to as "the building with the pharmacy." The food place was set up as a quick service convenience store layout with lots of grab-n-go items such as pre-boxed salads and sandwiches, Latin bites like empanadas, coffee, made-to-order sandwiches and wraps, coffee and espresso drinks, soups, and more. I got the chicken avocado wrap and waited quite awhile for it to be made. I found it odd that the menu item did not include cheese so I requested feta to be added. Speed was definitely a miss on this one since I expected fast casual service. I guess this only applies to pre-packaged goods and anything you have to order will eat up more of your time, like double that of a drive-thru. The wrap itself was quite flavorless but I appreciated the high protein low-carb option and the feta packed a punch of flavor which helped. They charged almost $1 more for cheese which was a blow, but not to be unexpected. All in all, good deal if you have 10-15 mins to spare, but I was in a rush to run and tried to pick something easy to eat on my drive to work. The wrap wasn't a good bet, but if I'm stuck in this pickle again I'll just grab an empanada and run. Not a bad value for a quick fix. Cheers read more

The sandwiches, sweets, and coffee are excellent! I love the food here, and the location in proximity to the hospital and water view is wonderful. My major gripe with this place was that the order system was a bit screwed up. There wasn't really a designated place to stand to order a sandwich, so it was just a bunch of people loitering around hoping they were in the right spot for ordering versus picking up their sandwich. Then there's a separate line to order coffee, so you need to wait there too. And the sweets are serve yourself like the bakery section of the grocery store, which always makes me nervous since I'm a germaphobe. Then there's a separate line to pay for whatever you picked up. It was just too much waiting and standing in lines. And for a small place to have separate sections like that, it gets cramped and chaotic. I also wish this location was open on weekends. A lot of people dining here are visiting loved ones at the hospital, so having a place to get away, grab a sandwich, and eat overlooking the water is greatly missed on Saturdays and Sundays. read more

Cute little place right beside , Mercy ( horrible hospital) . This cute cafeteria has everything you will need if you are hungry and visiting a loved one in the hospital. The food is very yummy. They also have goodies like chocolate chip cookies, croissants, cupcakes and much more yummy stuff. My favorite is the avocado egg whites on a skinny bagel; very nutritionist and delicious. The lattes they make are right up my alley of goodness. The girls that work here are super sweet. The place is decorated just how you would expect a cafeteria to look ... Chocolate croissants, coffee and friendly faces these things can really make a big difference when your dining on Mercy's property. Hospital visits are rarely pleasant, but these friendly faces really help make it more bearable. That combined with fresh pastries, sandwiches and tasty beverages galore make this my go to spot for lunch while at Mercy. Their egg salad is more than decent, you can have it solo or in a sandwich, I recommend either, I just love egg salad. Their breakfast is good too, egg sandwiches and coffee definitely hit the spot. Environment: Every staff member is friendly, even if they don't always look like they would be! I took one bite of my sandwich, hated it, asked to swap for something simpler and they did it for me - no questions or quibbles. It can get pretty busy and not every patron is considerate when it comes to seating (I saw several solo-diners taking up 4-seater tables so it was hard to find a place to park my baby stroller, but luckily I found some nice older ladies with which to share a 4-seater) Food: My husband and I have eaten here a few times and it's exactly what you'd expect. Bagels are freshly toasted but they are stingy with the cream cheese. I do not recommend getting any kind of egg sandwich - they reheat pre-cooked eggs in an oven so they taste dry and plasticky. Their hummus veggie wrap is fresh and very filling, cookies and croissants are really nice. Their espresso based drinks are nothing to write home about, but if you're really desperate at least they offer the usual cappuccino and latte options. Rating: I deducted 1 star because their menu is so hit-or-miss (avoid anything with eggs and their cold sandwiches). I would've deducted another star because their items are overpriced but you're on a hospital campus so that's to be expected. Does Au Bon Pain have a contract with hospitals? It is SO NICE to have such quality treats in places that can be so dreary! This is the usual au bon pain fare - and very little lines waiting to pay so A+++. Would have given 5 stars if the soda/coffee was more explanatory. Spent several minutes wandering around looking for stuff (fountain soda is hidden back in the sitting area which can be seen from where the food/cashiers are). Bought bottled soda instead (would have preferred fountain soda an ended up sitting next to the fountain machine to eat - uggghhh). Had pumpkin soup (so happy to be able to get that down here in Miami in the Fall - made me less home sick!) And some breadsticks, coffee and a couple sweets. Run of the mill reg coffee - def not starucks quality. Nearly every single cashier can hardly speak English or Spanish very well for that matter. It's insulting they even have a tip jar to ring you up. Without fail EVERY SINGLE TIME - The girls hardly are engaging because nearly EVERY SINGLE one of them is too busy checking their facebook messages on their smartphones which they shamelessly have out and can't even wait to finish your check out without looking at it and typing on it. I NEVER tip for this reason. I called the manager Alexandra and she said it would stop. I went in 4 hours later and sure enough the cashier was on her cell phone typing away. Alexandra was gone for the day. I confronted the girl and she could not understand English so I told her in Spanish how unprofessional she is.
