Dear Hubby normally makes the round of thrift shops in Thousand Oaks / Simi Valley / Moorpark looking for items that we can upcycle or otherwise clean up. After a doctor's appointment nearby, we hit a couple of the local thrifts, including The Mad Attic. Great timing - the entire store is 50% off until Christmas. They have a few small Christmas decorations, dishes, etc. available for those that might still be looking. I was about to head out, but up near the register I found a set of red charger plates for an excellent deal. Then in one of the glass cases at the cashier stand they had a few Spode Christmas items that were fairly priced to begin with, and even better at 50% off! As I have a set of Spode Christmas dishes, this was an unexpected bonus to have something fresh for my small collection. The woman at the cash wrap was very gracious and friendly. Interacting with her added a big bow onto the experience of shopping the store. read more

My favorite thrift store ever!! So many fun and unique finds. Staff is always friendly and helpful.

Super organized, small shop that has a good selection of clothing, shoes, books ($2 for hardcover and $1 for softcover), CDs and housewares. Certain sections had additional discounts, which was a nice bonus. No electronics. Parking is in the back and the thrift shop entrance is well marked. You can also use the front entrance as well. Staff were super friendly and very helpful. They wrapped everything really well! Whenever you visit, be sure to bring in your items to donate as proceeds go to a rotating selection of local charities. read more

My teenage son very much enjoys thrift shopping. He says the finds are more interesting and diverse, and it's way more fun! We stopped in at Mad Attic yesterday on a recommendation from a friend. I spent $44 dollars and my son walked out with a very nice big bag full of exciting things! The shop was very clean and well organized. The woman behind the counter was very kind. I was visiting the area, and decided to indulge in some local thrifting. I am so glad I did. This was the nicest little store, very clean, very well organised, and lovely friendly volunteers. A volunteer was even cleaning shelves and cabinets while I was there - that is impressive.There was a nice range of quality clothing, and a separate section with glassware, kitchen ware and the like. No electronics or "crap". Prices were very reasonable, and I was happy to hear all proceeds benefited various community groups. As icing on the cake, I luckily timed my visit well, and scored some nice sweaters that had just that morning become the "$1 tag color". I will most definitely be coming in again when I am next in the area. read more

Stopped by here the other day, my first time in a very long time. There was all kinds of cool kitchen items like coffee mugs, kitchen utensils, plates and some vintage things like cups and saucers sets. There are a few books, and things like used clothing, baby and children items, (for cheap!) As well as, misc toys and home stuff. The prices were more than fair, and the ladies who work there were kind and helpful! read more

Been shopping here for close to 20 years. Staff was always kind and fun and the store was filled with "goodies." at thrift store prices. (yes, everything has gone up some- but Mad Attic has gotten ridiculous now that they are trying to be a boutique) About 3 weeks ago, noticed that someone is trying to "upscale" the place. It stinks. It was a good resource for folks on a budget and for all kinds of items. No more. Most of the staff seems unhappy. The store is low on merch because the new mgr thinks she is making it "upscale"- she was saying today how they have many more "nice things" but don't have the "foot traffic" to put them out. Doesn't sound like she has any real retail management background. That store has chugged away with a solid customer base for years. You lost your foot traffic because you micro managed the place and apparently don't want any of your "brown" cutomers coming in anymore.. they only want little old white ladies I guess--- too bad- this store was a great resource for many different people who are on a limited budget or fixed income. No more. Very sad. The good ole Mad Attic ain't what it used to be. What a shame... so much for helping out the people in the community that are struggling. They get everything for free. They can continue to price higher value items at a higher price- why did you get rid of so much day to day living stock? Shame on Mad Attic read more

I stopped into the store today after not having been in for several months. I was pleasantly surprised to see how much the store has improved in terms of organization. Merchandise is organized as to type, and the higher end clothes are on a separate rack. There is also kitchenware, glassware, curios, etc. in a separate area. Staff is very nice and helpful without being intrusive. It would be nice if the store was open on a weekend day, even if it meant being closed one day during the week. Many people cannot shop on weekdays. Parking can sometimes be difficult. read more

Came here for the first time today and I would definitely be back. It is a small place ran by St. Patrick's Episcopal Church and it looks like a house on Skyline Drive right in between Hillcrest and T.O. Blvd. Right next to it (attached) is a salon. I didn't have too much interaction with the staff so I can't say much about that but the store itself when you walk in feels a bit cramped. This section is where all of the clothing, shoes, and other linens are located. They had a good selection, including plenty of black pairs of shoes, children's clothing, men's clothing, ladies' clothing, and house linens (napkins, tablecloths, etc.). There was a small selection of jewelery. The other half of the house (to the right) included other homegoods like china, books, coffee makers, containers, candle holders, etc. There were also books and a small selection of china. Their prices were pretty good. $2 for a shirt and $3 for a pair of pants (though pricing did vary some), $1 for a plate, etc. Hoping to find a treasure the next time I visit :) read more

Well let's say it's not your Melrose thrift / vintage maybe more your grandparents closet. Being a thrift store junkie, I am no stranger to diy clothing. I was hoping the name meant cool vintage, punk like, but this store was lackluster and drab. Sex Pistols, REM, The Cure and The Dead Kennedy's would never be caught in this skilled nursing home of retired rags. They had men's shoes but no clothes. The organization was haphazard with no flow or market merchandising sense. Sorry I'll stick to the GoodWill store. Not much more to say since we were in and out in 5min. Keep driving... read more

I enjoyed this little place. They had a $1 sale when I was there and I found some good items. It is a bit pricey for a thrift store but it's well organized. They do sell 'new' and 'boutique' items that are a bit more expensive too. Overall it's a great little place! read more

They have a pretty good selection of stuff and it's all pretty cheap. Great for a day of digging. I found a super cute jacket for $4.

Small place run by the Catholic Charities. Of all the thrift stores I visited in TO, this place had the best prices, very low! Stuff was not high end by any means, but some good deals here. The lady who was behind the counter was nice, and she had her beautiful standard poodle keeping her company! I don't think they have long hours, didn't see them posted, but I have been by many times and it was closed. They had 2 signs out on the street indicating they were open which was helpful. Parking is in a small lot in the back and on the street. read more

Great place to go for clean, up-scale clothing as well as unusual items. Facility is clean and cheerful with a fantastic group of volunteers all willing to help you find that special item. Stock constantly rotates so if you don't find what you're looking for on that visit, try again, it may just be there. ALL proceeds go to local charities and scholarships. Come on down! read more

This thrift store is priced right. Not a lot of selection, I grant you, but the books, cards, shoes, and clothes are all priced as a thrift store should be - inexpensively. I really do not like the trend I see with Goodwill, with $20 sport coats that date back to your grandfather's era. Those deserve to be priced $3-$5. These are the honest prices you see here at Mad Attic. A fun place to visit. read more
