Terrible buying experience at My Auto Imports. I bought a used Jeep that they claimed had a clean…read moremulti-point inspection. Within a week, the engine started ticking, and a mechanic told me it likely needed new rockers and valves. After initially ignoring me, the manager finally told me to bring it in and that they would "take care of it." They kept my Jeep for over a week, I spent almost $500 on a rental, and then they told me there was nothing they could do--completely going back on their word. They wasted my time and money, and I can't trust anything they say. Always get a used car independently inspected, and don't rely on the dealership's promises.

I had an original appointment Friday June 26 at 9:30am for my 2013 rav4 at a dealership an hour…read moreaway from our house. The first offer was made to buy the car, which I asked for an appraisal as we didn't know what we were looking at for repairs and wanted to know our options. We were told we were looking at 10 hours of diagnostics, understandable as we had brought it to a local shop and they had become stomped after a few repairs and recommended a toyota dealership to fully fix it. I made it clear this was our everyday car so we would need it back asap but understand things can take time. I made multiple attempts over multiple days to contact our technician Brenden (phone calls, voicemails, and texts) and was ignored. Thursday July 2nd diagnosed as being the brake actuator, was told that it was possible that wasn't the issue for 2k and told it would take a week or so to get the part in. Looked into potentially selling the car and was contacted to sell it but after what they offered and looking at the current car market we decided to keep it and go forward with repairs and suddenly they could mark the part as critical to get it in sooner. I was called Tuesday July 7th saying the part was in and the car should be done by the end of the week. I was contacted Thursday July 9th trying to buy the car again while at work. Contacted twice Friday July 10th to buy the car and told my rav4 was desirable to grow their used car lot, once again while I was at work. At this point there was still no word on repairs. On monday July 13 I sent our tech Brennan a frustrated text that morning in which he called me shortly after saying they got the part in the car on Friday and it fixed some codes but some were remaining and that they were in the process of taking the steering wheel angle sensor out to test it but if we needed a new one that they could ship it overnight. I asked for the cost for that part and was ignored. Sent a follow up text Tuesday morning on if they had any updates on the car and was ignored again. Text again Wednesday and nothing until I called and demanded answers. They said we would have a final quote Thursday at noon and offered a minimal discount off the total service. Noon came and went without any word and have tried contacting them multiple times with no answer. Finally got a hold of them and they said they would overnight the part and have it in by 9 am and that he would communicate with me when it arrived. 9 came and went and I text him and the part had arrived but they guaranteed my car would be done on Friday July 17th by 5pm. I text my tech at 4pm letting him know to keep me updated as we live an hour away and I didn't want to drive all the way there if something happened. 5pm came and went with no answer until we called them. Apparently the part was a "dud" and they missed the overnight shipping by a "half hour" and now will not have the part until Tuesday morning. As of Friday July 17th they have had my car for 3 weeks. I know a decent amount about car repairs and diagnosis does not take an entire week (they themselves even said 10 hours and are open for service 6 days a week with most days being from 7:30-7), or testing a single part does not take multiple days on end. At this point this feels intentional and sleazy because they have made it abundantly clear they want to buy my car from me and all I want is clear communication on what is happening. The Muskegon toyota dealership is under the my auto imports umbrella that own the muskegon toyota, muskegon nissan, my lakeshore subaru in nunica, my grand rapids mitsubishi and I know I will never be doing business with any of those places ever again and I advise others to do the same and avoid the headache I have dealt with. I wish I would have taken my car to the toyota dealership in Traverse City as it feels like its being held hostage.
