My family lives in the Coachella Valley and have visited the restaurants at Agua Caliente, Spotlight 29 and Fantasy Springs. We have heard the commercials about the Augustine Casino where "the locals go." We decided to try their lunch buffet. When we arrived, we were told we could not eat at the casino buffet because we had our two year old grand daughter with us. No one under 21 was allowed to even eat at the casino. I guess my grand daughter might accidentally slip a quarter into a slot machine. The casino management need to wake up and take a course on common sense. I want you all to know there is not a state or federal law that denies someone under 21 the ability to eat at a casino restaurant, this was a Augustine Casino rule. You would think they would really need the locals revenue since the casino is not at a convenient location. I can tell you I will not go back to the casino. The buffet is just short of being ok. As a lifelong chef in high end restraunts I can tell when your trying to make points on food cost. The prime rib should be called utility rib roast. Start with a great product and serve a great meal. They dont understand that. Side dishes lack thought as to what goes on a good memu. No one in that kitchen.knows what seasoning is. Here's my honest review for this casino and food alone. First this casino is still small even after they upgraded it recently and it still looks the same. I was expecting some major upgrade with isles to walk down. But you get a bunch of old machines still cramped up together. No room to walk. The rewards center is still small and people have to wait in line down a small isle if its full just to get to the counter. They need to move the rewards center to a better spot that is open. Being that the casino is still small there is alot of smoke in there and you will walk out of there like you smoked a pack a day all over your clothes. The air vents need to be better ventilated. The gambling here is also very terrible. Hardly any machines pay out. They are all old machines or dozens of the same new machines. Its also hard to get on a machine because the place is so small you can't find anything in there. Its way to catastrophic and your right on top of the next person. As for the food part. There is a small cafe in there but there food portions are terrible. They have one lady cooking in the back trying to get out all this food herself while others watch and wait for it to be done. Alot of angry people in there waiting awhile for the food to be done. Sometimes they wont call out your number and your food will be sitting there for awhile getting cold. Major disappoint in that area. As for the buffet. Well first off its not a high end buffet. The food there is basic food and isn't always looking good. I've seen flys on the food and salad bar and nobody cared to come see it or remove the food from the flys and replace it. The Lobster buffet there on weekends is also not so good. First you have people in the back talking and not helping you with the food. The lobsters tasted way over cooked and were rubbery. They even ran out of lobsters and said to come back because they had to make more. Now shouldn't a casino or food and beverage manager be taking care of this? They know how many people come to the buffet for these lobsters and they shouldn't be running out. Customers pay for this and should be getting this. Also another thing is that they tell you to only take 1-2 lobsters at a time. So if your seated way in the back be prepared to not eat many lobsters because the walking back and forth each time will get to you especially​ for the ones who mite not be able to walk so well. Also the butter tray is always out of butter. When you ask them to replace it they just look at you and walk away and say ok. None of the buffet food there has been good. They also don't offer any kind of free buffets for signing up and the buffet price is way expensive for what they offer at it. But please don't let the customers seeing you close early. When you go back to get food they start closing down the food and tell you to hurry up. When there is still like a room full of people ready to eat they close down the buffet early so you can't go back to eat. You feel rushed after paying $40 for your dinner. Big mistake. Hope this gets looked at by the management and not let this happen. Great food for a great price! This is a small casino with a small dining area. We were so surprised by their great selection and even more surprised by the yummy food. We went on Wed night which was BBQ & Prime Rib night all you can eat buffet. The prime rib was delicious, melted in your mouth and the ribs were to die for! Nice salad bar and lots of other things to choose from. Best of all the price was only $15!! Very disappointed with the bad customer service I suffered at the Café 54 on Nov. 29. It was my first time there and I didn't know that I had to order and pay before entering the café. I stood at the entrance waiting for a host to seat me... when no one came I followed the usual protocol and went in to seat myself. During this whole time the fellow at the cash register saw me and said nothing to me. I sat at my table for more than ten minutes waiting for someone to come and take my order. When I finally flagged down a server, he then told me that I had to order and pay at the cashier. I said to myself, "what the ...?" So, I went to the cashier and asked him why he hadn't said anything to me when he saw me enter the café. Rather than apologize, he "smart-mouthed me back" and made the excuse that he had been busy. Rather than argue with him I said O.K., then, please take my order and let me pay now after I've been waiting for almost 20 minutes. Instead of complying, he added insult to injury by telling me that I had to wait for him to serve the "next people in line" who were standing behind me! Those two people saw that what the cashier was doing was wrong and insisted that I go first but I deferred to them anyway. I should have just left, but it was late, I was hungry and in a hurry to get back home through the holiday weekend traffic, so, I put up with the indignity of the situation. However, after ordering and paying I asked one of the bartenders to send me the manager on duty who was Leilani. When she appeared, I was appreciative to find her to be very gracious and attentive and, after hearing my complaint, she promised that she would speak to the cashier. I was disappointed that she didn't do something more immediate like comp my meal, give me a discount or at least have that rude cashier apologize to me. What I wanted was some gesture that the management of Augustine Casino was acknowledging the inappropriate and disrespectful behavior of the cashier and wanted to "make it right." The next day, I followed up by calling and speaking to the day shift manager, Melissa. After explaining again the entire episode to her, I was very disappointed to find her very unsympathetic, unapologetic and even condescending(!) to me and defensive of that inexcusable behavior of the cashier going as far as to say that having him apologize would be "unprofessional"(??)! As far as she was concerned, my complaint was groundless and all I was after was a free meal! Top management of this establishment needs to be aware of the fact that Melissa is cynical, hard-headed, hard-hearted has no "people skills" and should not be in the position she currently occupies - she is, in fact, "bad news" for the customer relations of this business. On the other hand, when the Director of the Food and Beverage Service, Marco, eventually got in touch with me, I was very appreciative to find that he, like Leilani, was gracious, attentive and accommodating and ended up salvaging what had been a public relations disaster caused by Melissa. I only come here for the buffet which I think is probably one of the better ones for casinos here in the valley... I don't really gamble so I can't really comment on that so back to the food... Probably the only reason this place gets a rating of 3 stars from me is because of a dessert I had here and will continue to go back for everytime. I figure even if its worth it to only pay $15 to have some of the seafood, maybe some prime rib and finally, the best for last, the cinnamon baked apple! It's in the dessert case and you have to ask someone working there to give it to you but I believe it's one of the best desserts I've had at a buffet anywhere... Yes, can resplit aces. Automatic card shuffler here. Not the continuous card shuffler like at pechanga but the automatic shuffler. No paigow poker table : ( I will stick with casino pauma. The breakfast buffet was limited in items, so we had the cafe food instead. The menudo was good. The waiter was not too attentive. We got our food & drinks. No refills.
