After Covid hit, Martha Lou's closed and we have been looking for our new fav! We found it at Aunny's! The food is amazing! More importantly to us is the staff. The owner came over and sat with us for a while and chatted about family, the restaurant, and other things. Our waitress was engaging, very attentive, and just simply fun. From the great food, wonderful staff, pink walls, styrofoam plates, and pics of the Obamas, Tupac, Elvis, and Fredrick Douglas on the wall we found our new home! It is located in Georgetown (about an hour from Myrtle Beach area) in a quaint little town. There is a lot of street parking available and it is free. We came to the area just to eat at this place and it was well worth the trip. Yes, when we first entered, we were the only ones in the restaurant at the time, but this was expected since we went on a weekday. As we were seated, a lady came up to us and gave us the menu and explained things (found out later that she is Aunny's Mom and she takes care of the patrons out front). In addition to the menu, there was a white board that had some extra items that may or may not be a part of the menu. One in our party had Whiting (fish) with brown rice and mixed vegetables; another had Spots (fish with several bones and a warning was provided by our server...more than once) with yellow rice and sweet corn; I had Baked Chicken with yellow rice and mac-n-cheese. All of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals...very delicious. Even though I was full, I opted to purchase 2 desserts before leaving, only because they are homemade, so I had a slice of the Rum Cake and the Sweet Potato Pie. When I tried both later, I ended up enjoying the sweet potato pie more. The dessert menu makes you want to try all the desserts listed. We will definitely try this place again as this southern food tasted really great and Aunny's Mom was just as pleasant. Took forever to be served half the menu was out of stock , worst service, food was over cooked, couldn't even afford stocked basic condiments, tables and floors were dirty. I was here a year ago they had great food and today food and service completely sucked! A real locals place on Georgetowns main drag. Small restaurant with a interesting flea market decor. A Gospel radio station filled the background music. The food was basic but still tasty. But it took a very long time to get it even though there were only 4 other people there. Had a corned beef hash that looked homemade with a couple of eggs and wheat toast. The prices were reasonable for the area. Our server was very nice and my coffee cup was always filled. I like trying these little places but don't know if I would go out of my way to come back. read more

Visiting from Chicago was close by and decided to try it after reading the yelp reviews. They were closing but I was able to get two dinners. Fried pork chop and fried chicken. Fried chicken was seasoned so good! Mac and cheese was okay, yams were amazing and so were the string beans. Had their Glenda's lemon pound cake and it was amazing. I was a happy camper. Aunny's was a delight! We were on a day trip to Charleston from Murrells Inlet and happened to stop by for a quick bite to eat. The sweet tea was divine and the food was delicious. Stopped by Aunny's today for lunch. We were so excited to finally venture out...after quarantining for the last 3 months. We had the best experience at Aunny's! For our 'to go' meals we ordered smothered pork chop and turkey wing, fried okra, collards, Mac and cheese, green beans, fried corn and squash casserole ...all were well seasoned and cooked to perfection. The portion sizes were also notable; we have enough left over for dinner! We also had some of 'Mama Jane's' coconut and pecan pie...the perfect ending to a satisfying meal! Pretty decent food with a hometown atmosphere. I can see why this place is so popular. It's always a pleasure to grab a hot, cooked meal in a world filled with processed, fake food. When you eat at Aunny's you'll be convinced that your actual Auntie is in the kitchen fixing you a plate! Aside from the down home cooking, it's clear to see that the staff truly appreciates *certain* customers. I watched as they showered some of their guests with warm greetings and sincere gratitude. They seems to really appreciate and aim to please *some* of their patrons. Unfortunately, I'm not part of the Cool Kids Club, it seems, because I was not welcomed as kindly. In fact, I was overlooked and ignored so blatantly that another guest spoke up and encouraged the staff to acknowledge me before he placed his own order. Super awkward. Went up to Gerogetown to go to traffic court and decided to head over to Front St afterwards for something to eat. Decided on Aunny's based on it having the highest rating around. We were checking out the menu on the window and wondering if it was just sandwiches when Aunny herself came out and let us know there were other specials on the board. We went in and the board is a listing of all the days meat and side options plus desserts too. It was around 4pm so we were probably their first dinner table. A young girl came over and took our drink orders. We had a couple questions but she wasn't very helpful and didn't seem to want to be there. I asked her the difference between whiting and tilapia and she responded that "they are different types of fish." I assured her that I was aware of that and she said, "I don't really know, but I like the whiting better." We then asked what veggies were in the steamed veggies. She wasn't really sure but thought it was "broccoli, cauliflower, either cucumbers or zucchini... one of those, and cauliflower." Turns out it was broccoli, cauliflower, onions, carrots, and of course zucchini. Why would there be cucumbers in the steamed veggies? Why don't you know what's in the steamed veggies? Why don't you go ask someone else? So many questions. We both ordered a meat and three which for some reason had no prices listed, but it wasn't a pricey place so I wasn't concerned... nice to know though. They brought out cornbread muffins which were delicious and then shortly after our food came out. Our server dropped the plates off and asked if we needed anything at the moment to which we replied that we were all set for now. That was the last time we saw her. I wanted to ask for tarter sauce for my fish so I was keeping an eye out for her. I then heard another server offer it to another table so I'm not sure why it wouldn't automatically be offered with fish. I started using hot sauce so I went through my tea pretty quick. Now I don't want to eat because my mouth is burning and she's nowhere to be found. I tried to get the other servers attention, but she never came by. She helped two locals that came in and even sat down to chat with one of them for a bit. Then after seeing her check a couple out at the register, I assumed nobody was bringing over a check. We were sitting there for probably 20 minutes. Eventually I walked up to the counter and asked where our server had gone. She let me know that she went home because she was here all day and was just waiting for her to get there so she could be relieved. I told her we'd been waiting for tarter sauce and refills for 20 minutes. She was shocked that our server didn't let us know about the change and then apologized. She then blamed her for being a young girl who just doesn't know how to do things right. All the while, she also was to blame for knowing that she was taking over our table and never once coming by to check on us. She then offered to take one of the teas off our bill because she was a professional and knows how to take care of customers. good job ignoring a table the entire time you were there when you only had one other table and a couple to go orders. Honestly, the food was pretty good. I enjoyed the fish and I tried the fried pork chop which was even better. None of the sides jumped out at my but they weren't bad. I wanted to try the coconut pie, but I was so aggravated I just wanted to leave. I would have rated higher based on food alone but the service was so atrocious it couldn't be ignored. read more

A friend of mine invited me to eat here and at first I was skeptical. I went and the experience was awesome. The food has been extremely tasteful. The fried pork chops and fried chicken was excellent. The rice and gravy with the fried corn (first time eating) was excellent. However my favorite was the corn bread muffins with butter. I also ate the black eyed beans, Lima beans, Brussels sprouts, and the Macaroni and cheese outstanding. You will not be disappointed. However the desserts are homemade then brought in by one of the family members. I bought the whole cherry pie. I believe what made the experience so special was the atmosphere and how they made me feel like family. In the 5 days I was in Georgetown I ate here 3 days it's that good. Real homemade cooking. Excellent customer service and both meals were unbelievably tasty. We had bbq ribs that just fell off the bone, very moist. Mac and cheese was very good not too cheesy or buttery. Other dish was meat loaf, sweet potato fries, beets and green beans. Green beans had pieces of ham.. Yum to everything. This review comes with a caveat since we were informed the normal chef had quit a week prior to our visit. 8/14/23 we had breakfast. The meal was to be grits turkey sausage & eggs with cheesh and a side of hash browns. The hash browns were crinkle cut fries cut into bits, the sausage patty was over fried and the toast was hard as a brick. My friend did not like her dish of grits eggs and sausage that she said was overly salty and difficult to cut with the styrofoam plates and plastic cutlery. They could also use an update of the spot itself. Not a recommended place to eat while in SC unless a new chef comes in the mix. read more

Seated near two elders of the church on one side and a local postal carrier on the other side, we felt right at home. It's a "meat & two" kinda menu with pick your meat main and then pick two sides. We chose: Fried chicken (breast & wing portion) -so crispy and good! Mac & cheese (homemade and better than your mamas!) and butterbeans (the brown sauced kind with ham chunks of goodness) , my husband had: hamburger steak (think big, tender meat cake, with brown gravy and onions, the butter beans and collards (wooooweee yummm) - get that vinegar pepper on the side on pour to your hearts content. Both dishes came with a corn muffin on the side, and yes, they were served in styrofoam because they don't have time and energy to wash dishes when they are coming up this goodness for your bellies! Hummingbird cake was sold out, so we settled for a piece of fresh, homemade coconut pecan pie that was so good, we had to order another with a take home container of Mac & Cheese for the midnight craving. My companion and I stopped into Aunny's on the way back from a shopping trip to Charleston. We both had the lunch special: a meat and two. He had fried chicken with green beans, with Mac and cheese. I had fried chicken, stewed tomatoes and okra, with a side of black eyed peas. Let me say that the staff is wonderful. Such an inviting group of people; warm and hospitable as you'd ever want. The place is quaint, clean table settings after each customer, just old enough for a feel of down home, forgive the aging furniture, take in the Southern charm. Ice tea and cornbread muffins with a side of butter came out soon. I'm not a sweet cornbread fan, myself, and the taste of vegetable oil and not lard was pretty strong in the sweet muffins. Our meals were served piping hot. My chicken was fried nicely with just a light bread coating. The stewed tomatoes and okra were sweeter than I like. And the black eyed peas missed a bit; not carrying a salty ham hock flavor or a spicy/hot cayenne, one might expect in this dish. Overall, a good meal with lovely people which lacked the total food experience hoped for. read more

Another slogan they might consider adopting is "Abandon diets all ye who enter here." You'll be glad you did! It's a little place - just 56 seats - that serves amazing soul food in a comfy, welcoming atmosphere. Meat and three menu. The fried chicken was fantastic, the green beans full of salty juicy bits of ham, and the baked beans were the best I have ever tasted. Mac and cheese was also good and Hubby swears that the corn was just as tasty. The coconut pecan pie is like something right or of my grandmother's kitchen. Prices are reasonable - $27 for 2 meals, 2 drinks, and dessert. The only reason I can't give Aunny's 5 stars is that the mashed potatoes were fake. I hope today was just an exception and that they normally serve the real deal, because why would anyone want to ruin all that phenomenal home cooking with powdered potatoes?!? read more

It was, without a doubt, the most tasty, satisfying meal I've had on my whole trip. I had the bbq ribs, my mom ordered the bbq chicken and my sister had the fried chicken. Stopped on the way back from Charleston and followed YELPS rating. WRONG! Squash casserole was the best food we ate. Fried chicken was dry and the crust was hard. Mac and cheese had no flavor and was hard like it was microwaved. Cornbread was delicious and sweet. My grandson had corn dogs and they were okay.
