I had heard great things about this restaurant from the staff at a local pizza place, so we were excited to give it a try. Unfortunately, our experience was very disappointing. The service was extremely slow, which wasn't entirely surprising since many other reviews mention the same issue. As for the food, the chicken tortellini soup was excellent, and the ravioli itself was good. Thankfully, I asked for the sauce on the side because it had a burnt taste. Unfortunately, the other three entrées at our table were simply not edible. We sent all three back. Our waitress was very pleasant and asked if we wanted to speak with a manager. We told her that wasn't necessary, we simply didn't want to be charged for meals we couldn't eat. Since half of our party had already finished eating, we didn't want to order replacement meals. When the bill arrived, the three returned meals were still included. At that point, we requested to speak with the manager. The manager's approach turned an already disappointing meal into an even worse experience. Instead of listening to our concerns, she repeatedly reminded us that she was "the manager," mentioning her title multiple times during the conversation. She loudly asked us several times whether we had eaten there before, creating an uncomfortable scene that seemed unnecessary. She also referred to the waitstaff as "children" and explained that they weren't authorized to adjust the bill--only managers could do that. Our response was simple: if the waitress didn't have the authority to resolve the issue, management should have been notified when we first sent the meals back. That could have avoided the entire situation. To her credit, the manager ultimately removed the returned meals from our bill. However, the way the situation was handled was unprofessional and lacked basic customer service. A little listening and empathy would have gone a long way. Unfortunately, our experience didn't improve with dessert. Based on all the positive reviews of the restaurant's bakery and desserts, we ordered four different desserts to take home. However, our order was incorrect....we received three of the four desserts we ordered, and the caramel stuffed cheesecake was replaced with a cannoli. Since I don't like cannolis, that was another disappointment. Of the desserts we did receive, the crumb cake and chocolate mousse cake were both very good. Unfortunately, the tiramisu was not enjoyable. It was disappointing that even the desserts, which had received such high praise, failed to meet our expectations overall. Sadly, despite the few items we did enjoy, the poor food quality, slow service, and especially the manager's handling of the situation left us with no desire to return. Dinner on a Sunday at 4pm doesn't seem like it would be a busy time, but it was too busy for Aunt Butchies staff to maintain. There were only 2 servers in the dining room and they could not keep up. I asked 4 times for an iced tea drink refill and never got it. Others at my table asked for my drink to be refilled and still no iced tea. The lentil soup appetizer was quite salty. The clams appetizer was so tiny that all put together they might have made a full tablespoon. Dinners were nothing special. If you are looking to go somewhere for dinner - try someplace else. read more

But we still go back there for dinner occasionally. One of my favorite dishes was the Rigatoni Aunt Butchies. It was fantastic. However, something must have changed because I have orderd it twice in the last 3 weeks and it just doesn't taste the same as it use to. It has gone downhill. I also ordered the Gnocchi, I was not impressed. Plus the few slices of bread they gave us was incredibly stale. Better just not give bread than that - an embarrassment. We've been here before and as always, the food is fantastic! Service was very good as well. However, this time there was a lounge singer in their very small dining room. The man wasn't bad, but I question the decision to have live entertainment in a tiny room. It was way too loud and way too Saturday Night Live skit. If you want great Italian food, this is the place. DONT walk, RUN to Aunt butchies on Tuesdays for $12 pastas! They do $12 pastas dine in and take out. If you can bring cash I definitely recommend because they will charge extra 3% for credit cards. The best pasta I had so far was the gnocchi but I tried the pesto with chicken and Sunday sauce pasta. I will say with the Sunday sauce pasta only had one sausage and meatball. I definitely would have preferred if it had a bit more meat in it. Also the menus were all on iPads only. Some of the iPads were not fully charged or given to us and not working properly. I haven't experienced a restaurant that does this, and I definitely prefer just a regular menu or even a QR code. There were so many dessert selections and they even have a bakery at the front that you can take some pastries to go! I came here for dinner with friends. I have to say that I'm very impressed by how good their food tasted! We ordered: Linguini Carbonara Pasta, Penne Vodka Pasta, Fried calamari , Pork Chops , Ling mussels with white sauce , Orrechiette Sauce/Rabe, and Black & White Mousse Cake for dessert. I've gone to Aunt Butchies so many times over the years. Classic Italian restaurant, great spot for a date night. You do have to order appetizers and entrees at once as well. Additionally, the prices are slightly higher if you use card not cash so just be aware. The appetizers that we always get is fried calamari and the meatball, they never disappoint. I usually switch up the entrees I get and last time I got shrimp parm . The shrimp was flavorful but a little bit over cooked so I think next time I would do the chicken parm. The sauce is excellent though. Service is good, they always offer bread and oil for the table as well. Aunt Butchies was a great spot and had a very homey feeling. They had a very large menu, with plenty of options and variety. For appetizers we ordered the risotto cakes and italian egg rolls. Both came quickly and tasted fantastic! The risotto cakes were a bit dry, would go fantastic with some marinara, but still good nonetheless. One thing I just say is the portions are MASSIVE, even the appetizers and make the price well worth it. The Butchie's rigatoni had a nice creamy sauce with plenty of flavor and the peas offered a nice crunch in a thick bolognese. Again, I feel like I could've eaten this dish for 4 meals! The manager/owner came over and said they took our drinks off the bill which doesn't make up for it, obviously, and he didn't even take all of them off anyway. This is no Olive Garden. Welcome to Aunt Butchies. It's been awhile since I've had amazing Italian food like this. I tend to favor Little Italy and Brooklyn for Italian cuisine. Here at Aunt Butchies, you can taste the homemade pasta and sauces. Be warn, portions are huge. The menu is extensive and it was really hard to choose. I was a bit bummed when our waitress informed us that they didn't have stuffed figs, maybe next time. To start, we had the Fried Calamari (plump and tender) and Old World Tripe (prepared like a stew with peas, carrots and potatoes). I enjoyed both of these apps very much. For our main courses, we ordered: - Chicken Sorrentino w/Prosciutto & Fried Eggplant (w/Penne or Spaghetti) - Orecchiette, Sausage & Broccoli Rabe (I couldn't get enough of this dish, that sauce was everything) We had the most lovely, attentive waitress (Sophia) who told us that Aunt Butchies started as a bakery in Brooklyn. Then their first restaurant opened in Staten Island and this is the second location in Englishtown. Definitely plan on coming back, I want to try their risotto dishes next time. Amazing place with super friendly and attentive staff. Vito was our waiter and he went above and beyond to make sure everything came out on time and correct. Plus the authenticity of the place, he was from the Amalfi coast. Felt like I was in Italy for a few hours. We are regulars here but I've noticed big differences in how things go depending on who the manager is during service. One manager comes around and checks in on customers and talks with staff. The other is M.I.A. Tonight my husband & I witnessed a table waiting for an hour for entrees and they did not order apps. The waitress never checked on them. Our waiter was great, checked in on us. We had our food, which was delicious and by the time we were done the other table was still waiting and they ordered before us! Our waiter then checked in on them and they wanted to see the manager. The restaurant wasn't too busy but she took awhile to get there which is also unacceptable. She seemed to be offering them dessert to compensate- they should be receiving at least one free meal for waiting so long in my opinion. I believe this situation wouldn't have happened if the manager was actually managing by checking in on the tables and kitchen. You can't be a manager and just expect everything to run smoothly without checking in on everything and everyone. We love this restaurant, our food is consistently good & many hard working staff are there, but the difference between the managers is extraordinary. We decided to give this place a try after a friend had recommended it. We called when we were on our way down from Bridgewater to see if there was a long wait. The hostess seem to be a little confused as to the possible wait time they were pretty busy when we got there, luckily enough, we only had to wait 10 minutes. We were seated outside luckily enough the weather held out. When you first walk in you are greeted by a bunch of yummy looking desserts, and their pick up station for takeout. They have a dining area off to the right behind the hostess area and a bigger dining area towards the back. The back patio had about six or seven tables That seated four people or so . your menu was given in the form of a tablet, which was pretty easy to navigate. Prices were pretty average for most entrées pastas were pretty expensive averaging from $19 to 30. Average entrée is about $28. Appetizers were pretty expensive but given in today's market it's understandable. We ordered calamari to start, which was pretty good perfectly fried not chewy at all. The bread that they serve you first most perfectly toasted, and they give you a delicious olive oil for dipping. I my husband ordered Aunt Butchies rigatoni which was super hearty and the sauce was delicious a tad salty but good !! I wanted to try the Carbonara which was decent and probably one of the better ones I've had, but was bit overwhelmed by onions . The portion sizes are pretty big I only ate half of my dish and took the rest home . Our server SAL was really good , hustles and very attentive. I've been to Aunt Butchies several times, and the food has always been very good. Plan to have leftovers the next day because the portions are huge! My two favorite dishes that I tried so far is the chicken Parmesan and the rigatoni eggplant. The chicken Parmesan was tender and absolutely delicious!!! The rigatoni eggplant had eggplant and mozzarella cheese in it. It's an excellent dish! All the other dishes have all been very good! For desserts I had the crumb cake, peanut butter pie, brownie, and raspberry filled cookie. The only dessert I didn't like is the brownie. It was too dry and not fudge like. My favorites out of those are the peanut butter pie and the raspberry filled cookie. Both are delicious! The crumb cake is good too, but I don't recommend getting it topped with ice cream. I didn't think the ice cream was that good here. On Tuesday they have a $12 pasta menu. It's the best deal in the state! Definitely check it out!
