We just celebrated my granddaughters Baptism here. From start to finish, Dee made everything so stress free. She was absolutely wonderful to work with. The food was delicious. We had a large variety of dishes to choose from and there wasn't one person that didn't enjoy their meal. The wait staff was so kind and attentive. The timing of all the courses were spot on and the portions were big. We always had our pitchers of water and soda full at the table. We all had such a wonderful time. The only reason I'm leaving 1 star is because when I ordered take out they automatically ADDED A TIP to my credit card. This is not only UNACCEPTABLE to me, but it should be ILLEGAL! I was in the area and found Assaggini using the restaurant feature on my gps. It is located inside of a shopping plaza and there is adequate parking. From the outside it looks like a simple storefront but on the inside, it was a beautifully decorated restaurant. We were welcomed and seated promptly. The server came over and greeted us and asked if we had a bottle for her to open, which we didn't. Unbeknownst to us the restaurant is BYOB. When we shared that it was our first time there she gave us some time to look at the menu. I ended up ordering shrimp parm with linguini, and I asked for the linguini to have white sauce as opposed to the red sauce. She brought over water, a bread basket and bruschetta for the table. I usually prefer lime with my water. They didn't have lime, but she did bring over lemon wedges. While waiting for our meal my company had to step out and by the time the food arrived they weren't back. I asked the sever if I could get a plate to cover their food and she was super accommodating. Upon my companies return the server, even offered to reheat the food for them, which I thought was a nice touch. We declined, but we were still appreciative of the option. My food was very delicious. The white sauce for the linguini was amazing. One of the better Alfredo sauces I've had in this lifetime. The shrimp Parmesan was so so. I felt like it could've used maybe a little bit more seasoning but honestly paired with the pasta. I had no complaints. The restaurant definitely has a family feel and I got the impression that a lot of the patrons are regulars. I don't live in the area, but if I'm ever there again, I would certainly return. read more

I called them up to make it right and the girl on the phone insisted that I ordered the item without sausage- but it's written right there. Assaggini Di Roma is a great choice for an Italian feast if you are in the Hazlet, New Jersey area. The service was friendly and professional. The ambiance is warm and just exudes a great overall vibe. I grew up in New Jersey and just always took it for granted that great Italian restaurants were pretty much on every corner. When I moved down south to Florida, I found that definitely wasn't the case, so whenever I am back up in New Jersey, Italian food is always on my list. I've heard rave things about this restaurant and wanted to try it. This place was LOUD. I know you can't expect a quiet dinner on a busy Saturday night but we could hardly hear our own party of 5 talking at the table. Our group of 5 was also sat at a 4 top with the end person right in the way being constantly hit by those walking by. It was extremely cramped for 5 adults. The staff was the saving grace. Our waitress was so nice, professional, and helped us as we had two allergies at the table. As for the food. The caprese salad special was average, nothing outrageous. I also ordered the chicken Francese. While the pasta was cooked perfectly al dente, and the sauce was delicious, I couldn't bring myself to finish the chicken. It was very chewy. In the month of December I ate dinner here 3 times. The food was really good. They couldn't do enough for us. Two groups of 10 and our Garden club had a holiday party with 45 people. This place has some serious issues - the first being hygeine. My family and I had dinner here and asked for more bread - we were given another basket after three requests, and the basket had opened and used butter and pieces of bread in it. We returned the basket and asked for a fresh one, and never received it. We spoke with the owner who was nasty and rude and couldn't care less that her customers were complaining. The only dish on the menu that is good is ravioli with a la vodka sauce. The other dishes we tried are average at best and the service is terrible. You literally have to ask 3 times before getting what you have requested. This, in combination with getting food (the bread) that other people have already touched, makes this restaurant one of the worst we have been to. There are much better restaurants in the area where you can spend your money on good food, better service and without fear of eating something that another customer has handled and has touched. read more

We had a great meal here tonight, our first visit. While I think some things were a bit of a miss in regards to flavor, our server, Ron, was outstanding. One thing I really enjoyed was the pace of the meal. It allowed us time to enjoy each others company while never feeling rushed. It's not a "put your whole order in at once" type spot. We ordered: Stuffed Artichoke appetizer (pass) Calamari/Fried Shrimp Assaggini (very good) Chicken Parm (not bad, but could have been a thinner cut of chicken and it would have been outstanding) Broccoli Rabe (good not great) Pappardelle w Vodka sauce (the homemade pasta and sauce were outstanding, best part of the meal) And a stuffed chicken dish over pappardelle which was also outstanding. They seem to have excellent sauces, whether it be red, pink or various white cream sauces. It's a BYOB which is nice and we'll definitely be returning and requesting Ron as our server. The food has always been excellent. The service by the wait staff, also good to excellent. However, the woman who is the owner is rude and obnoxious. A group of 12 people and she is rushing us bc she needs the table! We were drinking, BYOB, spend over $800, and we were rushed. Another time my party of 6 was told to stand outside while we waited for a table. It was raining! I am new to the area and, as an avid foodie, I was meticulously searching for a nice spot to take my parents to dinner. After a little research and reading through some outstanding reviews for Assaggini Di Roma, we decided to give it a go. I am so happy we did! This restaurant has joined some of my tried and true Italian favorites of Ocean County (looking at you Il Giardinello & Spanos) and will be a regular on rotation for sure. Service was excellent, as was the food. It's BYOB which makes it all the more enjoyable. Everything was very reasonably priced and full of flavor. The bruschetta crostinis you get for the table were delicious and a clear indication of what we were in store for. For apps, we got stuffed mushrooms and the stuffed artichoke. Both were great (esp the mushrooms). For entrees, we did: veal parm, chicken parm, Pappardelle alla Solerno, and the Pappardelle special (light cream sauce, shrimp, mushrooms, asparagus) and every person enjoyed their meal thoroughly. There was an issue with the online order for pickup through Grubhub (understandable- I get that technical issues happen). The real problem is the lack of interest in resolving the issue by management. I placed a dinner order through Grubhub and got confirmation on it. I went to the restaurant to pick it up and told the manager at the front that I there for an online order. While she went in back, I looked at my email and found that Grubhub had cancelled the order. When she returned I showed her this email - she was very rude and annoyed and had a waitress take over dealing with me as she left in a huff. The waitress was nice and helpful- she put the order in and i left to kill time while they started my order. I returned and was treated rudely by the manager again- was hungry so I paid and left. After all that, the food was mediocre and they are very stingy with bread (three small pieces and one was the heel! We had two dinner orders!). I will not order from here again. Not because of the technical issue but because the manager does not seem to have any concern for customer service or satisfaction. If a patron experiences a problem ordering, even if there is a third party (Grubhub) involved, the manager should try to resolve the issue. Not only did she have no interest in doing so, she was rude! No thanks! Plenty of other options for Italian food out there. read more

First off, just have to mention that this place is very loud. A few people have said for reviews of this restaurant about the acoustics. I do believe it. It's hard to carry on a conversation with anyone at your table at times. Just my observation. Anyways... Antipasto was shared between the wife & I for our app. Watch those hot peppers on this dish. Came here for a baby shower event so the dinner part may be slightly different. Located in a small strip mall and easy to miss but great hole in the wall. Super friendly staff that stayed on top of refills. My one minor complaint is the main waitress took great detailed meal orders but when the food came out the staff was just yelling out orders making it chaotic. There's a main dining area and a side back area that was used for the baby shower. Appetizers were fantastic. Caprese salad with pesto. Calamari (didn't try but people raved). The bread was weirdly incredible. Really. Penne vodka appetizer was super yummy. I had the chicken Francese meal. Delicious chicken. Weirdly came with potatoes and vegetables instead of pasta.
