Literally the best chips I've ever had in my LIFE!!!
    Hillary H.

We were recommended to come here as it was part of the resort property we were staying at. However, it was just mediocre overall. We took a golf cart ride here, but you can also walk from the hotel, as it isn't too far. There is plenty of parking if you choose to drive. The good: the restaurant has a super cute vibe and a huge outdoor patio that has a romantic, quaint atmosphere. We also LOVED the General Manager who greeted us and instantly struck up a rapport with him. We then went to the bar and ordered drinks. The bartender wasn't too friendly and made us two margaritas, both of which were incredibly over-the-top sweet and we didn't even finish them, and left them at the bar when we paid and were sat on the patio outside. (Our tab for the2 margaritas was $43.00 with tip..) Our waiter took quite awhile to greet us outside, although it wasn't too busy. He was pretty friendly once he finally came over. We weren't crazy about the menu and decided to ask the waiter what he recommends and we ordered that. It was fried chicken chimichanga thing slathered in queso. It sounded delicious, and was cut into four pieces, but it was slightly cold and just WAYYYY too rich and heavy. Don't get me wrong- I usually like that, but this was excessive. We opted to not order more drinks and left. One MAJOR highlight of this place is that the chips and salsa are FIRE! These are the best chips I've ever had in my life and I would consider going back just to have these chips again! The salsa was also delicious, and the manager was great. Check it out if you're looking for cute outdoor seating and order the chips!!

I came here to meet with some friends and we had great service. Our server was very quick and efficient which was perfect because we needed to get in and out. We ordered the nachos with chicken and street corn and it was delicious! They also bring you out chips and salsa to the table that I definitely filled up way too much on because they were so good. I love the look and feel of the restaurant, it's very old-fashioned looking.

Street Tacos, crispy Baja fish, grilled mahi mahi, and beer-battered shrimp

We were in the area because my daughter had an event nearby, and decided to stop into Aunt Chilada's for a quick drink and bite. We sat in the bar area, which had quick service. I ordered a mango skinny margarita that was great, not overly sweet. Their complimentary chips and salsa were good, especially the regular salsa, which had great flavor. For food, we shared the three street tacos plate and tried all of their seafood options: the beer-battered shrimp, the crispy Baja fish, and the grilled mahi mahi. Each one was great, and the portion sizes were much bigger than the typical street tacos you get elsewhere. The bartender was also our server, and he was attentive and friendly throughout. It was a chilly night, otherwise we would have sat outside because the patio looked like a perfect spot. Overall, a great quick stop--good drinks, tasty food, and solid service.

Food was amazing. Giant portion sizes. Price is a little high, but you can definitely split a plate. The service was great. Ambiance was pretty cool with stained glass windows and a pond out front. If they had a menu with smaller portion sizes with lower prices it wouldn't bother me. The chips and salsa freshly made and tasted amazing. Two types of chips both flour and corn. Place was very clean. Definitely would recommend for a special occasion!

I get yelp says your closed but when looking for restaurants online such as Apple or Google Maps maybe it should mention your special hours not only on yelp. We drove 30 minutes to this location to be turned away in the parking lot because the entire restaurant was closed for a party. Would be nice if you updated your maps hours to reflect your actual hours.

    The patio. Very cozy.

The service, food, and ambience were amazing! We had the street tacos queso with ground beef, and it was the perfect portion. Highly recommend, and it's walking distance from the resort, which was very convenient.

We stopped by here on a Saturday night with a reservation of 15 people. I was quite impressed, the table was already set with chips and salsa and waters. Our waiter Josh was super attentive and handled our big group with ease, I would request him if I ever were to come back!! We sat outside and it was pretty cold but they had plenty of heaters set up around the patio to accommodate guests, and the sunset from the patio was quite literally to die for. I may come here for the sunsets alone!! The food was very good, as well as the margaritas. I got the chimichangas and it was enough to feed two people so be ready to bring home leftovers!!! We also got the carnitas platter, and that was very good too - a little spice to the chicken! Would recommend :)

Great Mexican food! So fresh and flavorful! The fajitas are amazing! The chimichangas are huge! Great drinks and superb service. Indoor and outdoor seating, or sit at the bar. Leave room for the frozen ice cream!

This place is awesome! The food and the service were great! The front of the place has a cute pond and little bridge. We loved the food!

This place is very-very busy. We waiting almost an hour to be seated. Was it worth it? Not really. The food and drinks were amazing. The view and scenery beautiful. The service was too slow. It was like 10-12min waiting to order drinks, ordering food, getting more chips and salsa, and gettting more drinks, and then longer to cash out. We just kept waiting for everything. On top of that, they added a 20% gratuity fee. Smh. No wonder they did not care about the service. They knew they were getting the 20% gratuity.

Do they have any kind of kids meals? My 9-year-old daughter doesn't really like Mexican food but I want to try this place.

You should phone them and ask because they seemed very agreeable and even if something isn't on the menu they might be able to modify a meal to satisfy her.

Do they have gluten free options?

yes, gluten free and celiac allergy menu

Is this owned by or in any way related to the "Aunt Chiladas Squaw Peak"?

Last I knew they were the same company.

We are whole foods, plant-based vegans - Are their beans made with lard? Is there chicken stock in the rice? The ONE answer I got was to go chew on some tree bark - I'm sure the restaurant appreciates THAT response, from a fat smoker no less..

Do they have TVs to watch the games at the bar?

The bar is really small. One tv but you have to be in the right spot to see it.

Sometimes the best meals happen because your original plan falls through. That was exactly the case…read morehere, and honestly... I'm not even a little mad about it. I ordered the veggie tacos with roasted sweet potatoes (skin on, which was absolutely the right call), pepitas, feta, and all the right toppings. Whoever prepped those sweet potatoes deserves a raise because they were cut into the perfect sized pieces. Every bite had a little sweetness, a little crunch, a little saltiness... it just worked. My dining partner ordered the barbacoa tacos, and I didn't even have to ask if they were good. The involuntary "Mmm..." after the first bite answered that question. Four tacos disappeared in record time, followed by, "I could've eaten two more." That's about as glowing of a review as you're going to get. Now let's talk about these tortillas. Handmade. Corn. Tortillas. Are you kidding me? They're the kind of tortillas that had me question every tortilla I've ever eaten. Soft, fresh, and somehow they manage to steal the spotlight even with everything else on the plate being so good. The chips and guacamole were excellent, too. The chips have to be made in-house and they disappeared at an alarming rate. The salsa that came with them had this smoky, fire-roasted, chipotle flavor that kept me reaching for another chip... and then another... and then suddenly I realized I'd eaten way more chips than I intended. The bottled table salsas deserve their own paragraph because they completely confused me... in the best way. They bring three to the table... a green, a red, and a darker red. I kept tasting them individually thinking, "Okay, these are alright." Then I started mixing them. Game over. On their own, each one was solid. Mixed together? That was the magic. I don't know if that's what they intended or if I accidentally stumbled onto the perfect combination, but from that point on, every taco got the salsa trio treatment. The only tiny hiccup was when we first walked in. We were greeted, asked if we wanted menus, and sat ourselves. We waited for a bit thinking someone would come take our order, only to realize it's actually counter service. Once we figured that out, everything was smooth sailing. Not a big deal at all... just something first-time visitors might want to know. Follow the sign "order here" I also loved the layout. You can actually watch them making the food, which somehow makes the wait even harder because everything smells incredible. Two tacos ended up being the perfect light meal for me. Could I have eaten ten? Absolutely. Those two statements can both be true. Meanwhile, my dining partner polished off four barbacoa tacos and was talking about ordering two more. We only ended up here because another place happened to be closed, and honestly, I'm glad it worked out that way. This ended up being one of those meals we keep talked about on the drive home. Oh and the bathrooms?. I walked in and immediately thought, "Whoa... this is a cool bathroom" The lighting had this pinkish-purple glow that made me feel like I'd accidentally wandered into a trendy lounge instead of a taco shop. I honestly wasn't even sure there was regular lighting in there and I didn't look... because the vibe seemed so intentional. Finally, the music. .. upbeat, dance-worthy, the kind that had me bouncing in my seat while waiting for my food. Between the atmosphere, the lighting, and the music, the whole place had me want to hang out a little longer. Zero regrets. I'll absolutely be back... and next time I'm ordering more tacos.

The spicy salsa is the opposite of the one you would think is spicy out of the two, so pay attention. Hubby got a combo with a tamale & ground beef burrito with rice & beans. He said everything was good. He also ordered a side of guacamole. I thought I got a picture of the guacamole & sour cream. It's crazy how much they charged for them. They were the small plast condiments containers, but they charged almost $5 for the guacamole. I don't remember the extra cost for the sour cream, but it too was way too high for the tiny size. I got a chicken chimichanga with grilled chicken instead of the shredded chicken which came with rice & beans. It was all good. Our server was friendly & did a good job. We loved the decor. It reminded us of being in Mexico. The table & chairs are really cool too. I wanted to love this place, but the cost of the sangria, sour cream & guacamole are just too high for me to justify coming back.

There were heaters available if we needed them, as we sat outside. Our amazing and friendly server offered to turn the heaters on for us, but we didn't need them. I enjoyed a Oaxacan Old Fashioned (on the sweeter side, but that's what I like), we had the Elote (BEST I'VE EVER HAD), and I also had the Carne A La Tampiquena. Everything tasted amazing and was served fresh and in a timely manner. We will most certainly be back (and you should visit, too!)!

We went to here as they were one of the late night spots still open. *This along with a hibiscus drink (large) and a cola! Approximately 50$. * Service was simple, kind, order at the register- type of spot. Ambiance wasn't busy for a Sunday night but the vibes were there, and I can imagine they get busy and can handle a lot with the seating options they have.

I've been ordering from El Jefe in Tempe for the last 4 to 5 years as we live fairly close. We love…read morethe tacos especially with doing the family meal for street tacos! The meats are so good. We also use to love the sushi side. During Covid, we tried the sushi for the first time. We were hesitant as it's a Mexican joint, right? Not a Japanese specialty shop. So to my surprise, I couldn't believe the sushi especially the Las Vegas roll and their Nigiri cuts were pretty dang good. My disappointment seems to be this last year with the sushi just hasn't been the best or fresh tasting. The Las Vegas roll was always nice and warm but with an awesome cold center and fried to perfection and the sauce just right. Lately it's been the opposite. Super over fried were all you can taste is old burnt oil and it dried out and the sauce just bland and not helping at all. The other thing that bothers us is the lack of wasabi they give! If you're not going to give us full flavor, at least give more wasabi to help mask. I will say they give you plenty of soy sauce packets (just barely any wasabi).
