Ordered from DoorDash so can't speak for the vibe or service, but this place was honestly really good. And affordable. The Vegas roll was perfectly crispy, and they even had a great 2 for 1 deal on it through the app. The other rolls were also super tasty and hit the spot. Definitely a great spot for some good sushi that won't break the bank.

Decorated nice with a bar, inside and outside seating and space selling merchandise. Place order at front counter and seat yourself . Staff was friendly. Reason for 3 stars was the food. Tacos were ok. Not the best or the worst just ok. The protein bowl was disappointing. It was 75% steamed rice and 4 pieces of fish. Definitely not worth the price.

Q: What did the taco say to the avocado? A: Let's guac and roll! Five years later, this is still a great place! I remember when this place used to be Red Owl but El Jefe Tacos is easily a better establishment. It's bright, there's plenty of seating, and the menu is massive. I recently came here with some friends after grabbing a drink and going on a distillery tour and it was exactly what was needed after a long day. I ordered the El Jefe Nachos and El Jefe Specialty Roll. Both were tasty! It's good to see how this once sleepy plaza is flourishing. Get some good eats here.

You know what sounds good after a distillery tour? Nachos and sushi from a taco shop. I know what you're thinking and maybe it was the alcohol but I enjoyed myself here. I've had them once before as takeout so it was my first time dining in. I never realized how massive the menu is. I was torn between what to get but I was eavesdropping on other members of my party's orders and I copied J-Wow. El Jefe Specialty Roll with some El Jefe Nachos it is. Both were good and promptly consumed. Come here and enjoy some eats and then walk across the parking lot to grab some doughnuts. I use to live in the condos right behind El Jefe Tacos so it's cool to see how this plaza has changed.

Who doesn't love tacos and sushi. Here at EL Jefe, you can have them both. This place is conveniently located right off the 101 in Tempe. It is a very spacious place with plenty of seating. A group of us came by here after a fun night of drinks. The nachos are definite worth getting as a sharable. I ordered some street tacos and enjoyed them. They have a variety of protein options to choose from that you can get on a corn or flour tortilla. The menu is quite large and includes birria specials, family packs and some breakfast choices.

Business owner Julio helped take my order. He was full of excellent energy. He was very polite and friendly. The food was delicious. And his helper, Andrea was very helpful in polite too. The ambience is fun, friendly and just so very welcoming!! I highly recommend this restaurant.

Very different from Jalisco but very good.. also 5 star. Extremely high quality ingredients, executed perfectly. Had Al pastor street tacos, a shrimp taco and fish taco. The street tacos had that street tacos flavor like fresh off the grill. The Al pastor was not fatty at all but full of flavor. The shrimp and fish taco were very respectable for being the product of a land locked state. Location was nice with cool art and staff seemed helpful. Yet another solid mex spot for PHX!! It really is a step up from SoCal the way SoCal steps up from everywhere else.

I ordered some takeout the other night and the food was so good. Only thing I would change if I made this at home would be to add cheese inside the chimis so it gives more oomph. The flavor was great, the salsas and queso sauces were delightful. The consommé was a little lackluster compared to other places, but this place doesn't focus on just birria. I saw sooo many things on the menu I want to try as that was my first time going in. The service was fast and friendly and the place was really clean and a pretty open floor plan for dining so it didn't feel crowded. I ordered a strawberry 3 leches cake which comes from a local bakery and that was a little on the sweeter side, I think I might have liked the vanilla one a bit better to have a more traditional feel. Overall I would definitely order here again.

Ordered DoorDash from this place countless times so I decided to stop by in person while in the area AND MANNN, it delivered. The birria tacos and quesadillas are killer. The staff are kind and the atmosphere is upbeat 10/10 recommend

Sometimes the best meals happen because your original plan falls through. That was exactly the case…read morehere, and honestly... I'm not even a little mad about it. I ordered the veggie tacos with roasted sweet potatoes (skin on, which was absolutely the right call), pepitas, feta, and all the right toppings. Whoever prepped those sweet potatoes deserves a raise because they were cut into the perfect sized pieces. Every bite had a little sweetness, a little crunch, a little saltiness... it just worked. My dining partner ordered the barbacoa tacos, and I didn't even have to ask if they were good. The involuntary "Mmm..." after the first bite answered that question. Four tacos disappeared in record time, followed by, "I could've eaten two more." That's about as glowing of a review as you're going to get. Now let's talk about these tortillas. Handmade. Corn. Tortillas. Are you kidding me? They're the kind of tortillas that had me question every tortilla I've ever eaten. Soft, fresh, and somehow they manage to steal the spotlight even with everything else on the plate being so good. The chips and guacamole were excellent, too. The chips have to be made in-house and they disappeared at an alarming rate. The salsa that came with them had this smoky, fire-roasted, chipotle flavor that kept me reaching for another chip... and then another... and then suddenly I realized I'd eaten way more chips than I intended. The bottled table salsas deserve their own paragraph because they completely confused me... in the best way. They bring three to the table... a green, a red, and a darker red. I kept tasting them individually thinking, "Okay, these are alright." Then I started mixing them. Game over. On their own, each one was solid. Mixed together? That was the magic. I don't know if that's what they intended or if I accidentally stumbled onto the perfect combination, but from that point on, every taco got the salsa trio treatment. The only tiny hiccup was when we first walked in. We were greeted, asked if we wanted menus, and sat ourselves. We waited for a bit thinking someone would come take our order, only to realize it's actually counter service. Once we figured that out, everything was smooth sailing. Not a big deal at all... just something first-time visitors might want to know. Follow the sign "order here" I also loved the layout. You can actually watch them making the food, which somehow makes the wait even harder because everything smells incredible. Two tacos ended up being the perfect light meal for me. Could I have eaten ten? Absolutely. Those two statements can both be true. Meanwhile, my dining partner polished off four barbacoa tacos and was talking about ordering two more. We only ended up here because another place happened to be closed, and honestly, I'm glad it worked out that way. This ended up being one of those meals we keep talked about on the drive home. Oh and the bathrooms?. I walked in and immediately thought, "Whoa... this is a cool bathroom" The lighting had this pinkish-purple glow that made me feel like I'd accidentally wandered into a trendy lounge instead of a taco shop. I honestly wasn't even sure there was regular lighting in there and I didn't look... because the vibe seemed so intentional. Finally, the music. .. upbeat, dance-worthy, the kind that had me bouncing in my seat while waiting for my food. Between the atmosphere, the lighting, and the music, the whole place had me want to hang out a little longer. Zero regrets. I'll absolutely be back... and next time I'm ordering more tacos.

He was incredibly kind and attentive, especially with my friend who is deaf, making sure we always had water, napkins, and plenty of chips. The margarita flight is always a must for me, so I had to order one for my friend since it was her first visit. I told her that even though neither of us are into spicy margaritas, I knew she'd love it and I was right! Every margarita was delicious. I also ordered the lavender lemonade, which was refreshing and just as good. Ghost Ranch never seems to miss when it comes to drinks. Potato tacos! Another must have My friend ordered the Aztec Cake and insisted I'd regret not getting it. She was absolutely right. It was bomb and Torrance offered us a side of chips .TY. I ordered the short rib. It was flavorful, tender, and filling, with lots of garlic and savory flavor. I'm not sure if short rib is just not my thing, but it didn't wow me the way the Aztec Cake did. I warmed it up later and it was delicious a second time so no complaints. Excellent service, delicious drinks, and a fun way to spend the Fourth. We'll definitely be back!

Been waiting to check this place out for Happy Hour and finally got around to it with friends. Happy Hour is daily with $3 off all appetizers (not just selected as the menu says) in addition to drink specials. I got the frozen margarita and it was a bit sweet, but nice for the summer evening. Our server wasn't super attentive, but was nice whenever they came around. There's a sampler entree platter I'd like to try, but of all the appetizers we tried, the best was probably the chips with guacamole and salsa.

The spicy salsa is the opposite of the one you would think is spicy out of the two, so pay attention. Hubby got a combo with a tamale & ground beef burrito with rice & beans. He said everything was good. He also ordered a side of guacamole. I thought I got a picture of the guacamole & sour cream. It's crazy how much they charged for them. They were the small plast condiments containers, but they charged almost $5 for the guacamole. I don't remember the extra cost for the sour cream, but it too was way too high for the tiny size. I got a chicken chimichanga with grilled chicken instead of the shredded chicken which came with rice & beans. It was all good. Our server was friendly & did a good job. We loved the decor. It reminded us of being in Mexico. The table & chairs are really cool too. I wanted to love this place, but the cost of the sangria, sour cream & guacamole are just too high for me to justify coming back.
