Who can resist a candy treat on vacation? This little locally owned shop on the corner is filled with hand crafted chocolates, salt water taffy and nostalgic hard candies. The bright colors in the windows definitely attract kids. The shop was filled and loud with Spring Breakers (proverbial kids in a candy shop). The clerks were busy filling orders. The iconic shop opened in 1939 and all the candy is homemade. I'm not sure if "homemade" means they make everything in store, but you can watch them make some of the candies when you visit the store. Besides candy, they also sell locally made jams and other gift products. Anyhow, who can resist fresh licorice. Not me. I would have had some chocolate, too, but the lines were too long. I LOVE this place and would have given 5 stars except they stopped the mail order service. I live in Michigan, they are in Tennessee, 8.5 hour drive. They have the absolute best butterscotch candy I have ever had. I would order about 10 bags at a time. Then suddenly, they stopped mailing service. I understand like chocolate or ones that may melt, but why not hard candy??? I asked for an exception and was told, it's a nice drive. Wow. New owners probably don't know I was told that. Great location, right next to the Ripley's Aquarium. I can't compare this candy store to others in the area, but I can say that I found a hard red candy apple, which sometimes are hard to find, and it was very good. Good candy spot that is a well known Gatlinburg Classic. Location is great with this shop located right between the aquarium and Anakeesta. Chocolate covered pretzels are popular here. Inside is as you would expect it to be. Clean and bright with the treats as the main attractions. read more

We were drawn in by the taffy maker in the window. This place had so much variety. It was insane. I got taffy which I love and found a new favorite, which was chocolate covered gummy bears. All of the new TikTok trending candies were in stock as well. My kid got the freeze dried skittles, which were really good. We also bought some toys that they had around. This store had plenty of different items in stock to choose from. Everyone in my group was able to find something that they wanted. read more

This is one of my long-term favorites. A trip to Gatlinburg isn't complete without getting a jar of stick candy from Aunt Mahalia's. Everything I've gotten there has been fresh and flavorful. However, they have been slowly but surely putting mass-market candy into their store inventory, and I really don't like that. I'm very disappointed in the fact that Aunt Mahalia's website doesn't accurately depict the products that they are selling, and their customer service department is, thus far, unresponsive to customer concerns. For several years, I have been searching for the soft candy sticks that my grandfather always had on hand during the holidays, when I was a kid - multiple colors and flavors, and apparently not generally available any more. While doing a web search recently, I found the photo posted below - looks EXACTLY like what I was looking for. I followed the link, which took me to Aunt Mahalia's Homemade Candies. I immediately ordered a package, and even added a box of their assorted homemade candies, to bring the total up to their minimum purchase amount. A week ago, I received my order, and was INTENSELY disappointed when I opened it. As pictured here, what I received was a package of standard soft peppermint sticks - NOT what was pictured on the website. I did go back to the website, just to make sure that I hadn't inadvertently ordered the wrong thing, but no - the multi-colored candy sticks shown is linked to the only option to order soft stick candy. To be fair, down in the written description, it does say something about "peppermint flavored" - I missed that, and that's on me. I have contacted their customer support, twice, to give them the chance to communicate with me about my concerns (either provide the product you show, or change the picture to show what you are actually selling). I've waited a week, to give them time to respond, but as of the time of this writing, there has been no response. The assorted homemade candies were actually quite good, especially the pecan-based ones. The peppermint sticks were nothing special - soft peppermint sticks that can be obtained in lots of places during the holiday season, at much lower prices. In summary: not everything that you see pictured on their website is actually what they are shipping out, and their customer service department is at best slow, if not totally unresponsive. read more

Saw this place and decided I wanted to stop in and browse. Candies were very pricey. The team was cordial but look at me as if they had seen something strange. I got a caramel ,candy apple and assorted taffy logs. To be honest, this was a donation. Taffy- you can't tell what flavor you have I just know that I'm eating taffy. I hope that apples are good. This is one of the most well lit stores I've visited. Maybe it's just me, but it seems to really be super bright inside this place. There are all kinds of candy, chocolates and yummy things that are placed strategically throughout, beckoning you to buy them. I come to Gatlinburg once a year or every other year and each time I've gotta get some candy. I grew up visiting gatlinburg and the smoky mountains and pralines were a big part of that! Anyway, in my opinion, the best candy has tended to fluctuate back and forth between a few of the shops. For many years, this one was the best!! Not anymore! Everything here is good!! The fresh made candies and chocolates are the best. Also the caramel, amazing! You have to try a juicy apple covered in caramel. I could eat one everyday. Love Love Love the peanut brittle! But, it is getting to the point where the price is keeping me away. Time was we would eat at least 3 bags during a 6 day stay. The best way to end the day was laying on the motel bed eating peanut brittle and drinking an ice cold soft drink from a can. No more. At almost $9 a bag including tax, I am no longer a fan. We are just visiting Gatlinburg for vacay and wanted a sweet treat after the fireworks and we had no idea they closed at 11 and we walked in at 10:50. I've never been surrounding by such a rude atmosphere! The workers were very rude and pushed us out of the door, said a very rude comment to myself and my family as we were walking about "people like that piss me off". How very rude. I came here a lot when I was a little kid, and I recently went back over the holidays with my boyfriend while we were strolling through Gatlinburg to buy some Xmas gifts. We spent about $50 and walked out with 2 huge boxes of chocolate/caramel varieties, 2 flavored caramel apples, and about 5 little boxes of caramel pecan delights. We got a lot of great feedback on the quality of the goodies from those who received them, and I think the bang for the buck was definitely a plus. AND---it smells AWESOME in there! read more

Yum, Yum, Yum, Yummmmm.... One of my first stops in the downtown area. The other three times I visited this area I passed up this shop, but happy I did not do so. I love sweets and this satisfied my sweet tooth very well. The turtle clusters were tasty and are highly recommended if you like caramel, nuts, and chocolates. Great fudge!! I walked up and down the strip and went in every place that had fudge looking for a soft creamy type of fudge. All the shops in the area had fudge, though they were the harder more dense fudge. This fudge is served in a pan that you can cut into squares and it melts in your mouth! Excellent! read more

Aunt Mahalia's Candy store at the Smokey Mountain Mall has been my favorite for the past 40 years. I started eating the peanut butter fudge from there when I was a little girl. We live 3 1/2 hours away and have taken a trip up for a day to just get my fudge many a time. read more

It tastes good, I've had better. They have some authentic candies plus the normal taffy, air heads, etc. Bulk candy, like pick your own, is not available here. Buying bulk chocolate is an option. They also have popcorn, slush puppies and water bottles. My daughter enjoyed her dark chocolate bark. My sea salt Caramel was fine but I've for sure have had better. The staff was nice but didn't go out of their way to help. If the kids are begging for candy and you're close, go. But don't make a special trip. read more

Aunt Mahalia's is very clean but not very welcoming. The employees are not friendly, which is surprising for an area filled with so many tourists. The chocolate is good but the red candy apples were awful. If I ever come back to the area, Chocolate Monkey will get my business. When you come to Gatlinburg, you can try to resist stopping in a candy store, but let's be honest...resistance is futile. There are a bunch of shops to choose from. In all honesty, I chose this one to give my money to because it was the most convenient to where I was parked. I didn't want to haul around candy while walking in the hot sun. So, I don't have other candy shops to compare it to, but I was overall very satisfied with my purchases from here. The fudge (I got regular and peanut butter) was good (although I've had better at other places outside Gatlinburg). The pecan clusters were just incredible. I got both chocolate and caramel ones. I'm pretty sure that they put crack in the caramel ones, because I cannot stop thinking about them. In fact, I'm seriously contemplating making my husband drop me off and circle around while he waits on me so I can get some more in the morning before we leave town. Caramel pecan clusters - buttery, sugary little circles from heaven, highly addictive. If there are better ones elsewhere, I don't want to know because I don't think my pancreas and arteries could handle it. read more
