Experienced this distillery for the 1st time and I'm in love! Tastings cost $5 for 12 different preselected tiny samples. They are tiny because they're strong! The host of the tasting was so friendly. The $5 sample is also a credit to the store. (Details are on your wristband that they'll give you.) They have great things to purchase, not just alcohol. At another bar in the store, you can select from any of their available selections for $3. There is no sharing allowed with any samples. They also have a separate bar in the back of the store. They are dog friendly. They gave our dog a pup cup with a treat in it. read more

The tasting was led by Devin, who was fantastic. She made the whole experience entertaining, informative, and fun. The flavors were definitely sugary, but it was still good despite that. Sugarlands is hands-down my favorite experience on the Gatlinburg strip and a must-do every time we visit. We've done the tasting multiple times over the years, and it never gets old because the hosts bring so much personality, humor, and energy to the experience. The jokes, stories, and interactions are always a little different, which keeps it fresh and fun. This past weekend, Trey really knocked it out of the park! One thing I really appreciate is that they regularly change the tasting menu, so there are always new flavors to try. The tasting itself is an incredible value at just $5, and the wristbands can be saved and combined for discounts on purchases. I brought two wristbands from a trip over a year ago, combined them with the ones we purchased this visit, and ended up getting a bottle of moonshine basically free, I only paid the tax! They've also added a new option where you can pay an extra $5 to choose three specific flavors you'd like to sample up to two additional times, which is a great addition. We also checked out the speakeasy-style bar tucked behind the store, and it has a fantastic atmosphere and is definitely worth a visit if you're looking for a more relaxed place to enjoy a drink. Every staff member we've encountered has been friendly, welcoming, and entertaining. Our personal favorites are the sipping creams as they're absolutely delicious and worth taking home. Moonshine tasting at Sugarlands Distilling Company has become one of our annual Gatlinburg traditions. At this point, a trip to Gatlinburg without stopping at Sugarlands would feel a little like visiting Disney World and skipping the castle. Sure, you could do it. But why would you? This year's tasting was hosted by our guide, bartender, entertainer, comedian, and unofficial life coach... Jeff. And before I go any further, Jeff specifically requested that his name be spelled correctly in this review. So one more time for the people in the back: Jeff. Jeff absolutely made the experience. He was fast, personable, engaging, and knew his products inside and out. For each moonshine sample, he didn't just tell us what we were drinking. He painted a picture. He described the flavors, explained what to expect, suggested mixers, recommended serving ideas, and somehow kept the entire room entertained while doing it. That's harder than it sounds. After all, you're standing in a room trying a dozen different moonshine flavors while competing for attention with alcohol. Yet Jeff managed to keep everyone engaged from start to finish. And let's talk about the value. Where else can you sample roughly a dozen different moonshines for five bucks? Seriously. Five dollars. In today's economy, that's approximately the cost of half a fast-food combo meal or one gallon of gas and a prayer. The pours are small, but after a dozen of them, you'll have a pretty good idea of what you like. And the flavors are genuinely fun. Some are sweet, some are fruity, some will sneak up on you like a ninja wearing overalls, and all of them make for an entertaining experience. But here's a pro tip many visitors miss: Don't leave after the tasting. Head to the bar in the back. The cocktails are surprisingly good and very reasonably priced. We're talking about seven-dollar mixed drinks and five-dollar shots in a tourist destination. In Gatlinburg. That's practically community service. Good moonshine. Good value. Good entertainment. This is my favorite Moonshine place in Gatlinburg. They have the absolute best tastings. We come here every time we're in town. The tasting is 1/2 tasting, 1/2 comedy show. Lots of fun. Fast and Great...we love it. It's so fun to try out all the different flavors. You pay like $5 and get it back in store credit if you buy something. Worth it! Afterwards , I checked out the Roaming Man Rye whiskey tasting in the back, near the bar. Yeah the place is pretty big and they have a really nice bar in the back. I did the moonshine tasting with my partner, and it was so fun! Rob Ham was such a great host!! His banter was hilarious. I'm unfortunately someone who can't handle the taste of alcohol, and Rob made funny banter that didn't make me feel bad for not taking a sample or only doing half a sample. There was one drink, a cocktail, that I asked for a half sample of and he vetoed me and said that I needed a full one, and he was right!!! My fav drink of the night. Gus was good host and made it fun. I'd say its not kid friendly. We brought ours and they did ok under our feet but there are no seats, lots of breakables and our focus is on tasting. The moonshine had some good flavors. And some less so but stronger that would mix well. $5 for tasting and that gets you a $5 discount on a purchase. Tastings are thimble sized, so 10 pours and it was probably equivalent to 1-1.5 shots at the most. 2 in tuyr psrty. Stack the discounts ($10). We didnt try stacking more than that so idk. Mil/vets save some too but not much. This also can be stacked with the wrist bands as long as you aren't already buy I no a discounted bundle. Value... experience sure its worth it. Bang for buck in terms of alcohol, about thr same as a bar. Price for moonshine, with the discount its good. We got a bottle for $16. I'd say fair value is about $20 based on competitors in store so buying without a discount is a bad deal. I think they had bundle promos which also didnt seem like very good deals. From how efficient the check in and payment process is to how hilarious our spirit guide Gage was, I enjoyed every minute of it. Our entire group spent the time laughing at his jokes, enjoying new flavors and everyone left with a smile on their face. Still some of the nastiest moonshine anywhere. I don't get the fascination of folks with this place. The bartenders are nice enough, sure - but that's their job. The alcohol options on the other hand are just flat out gross. We've been coming to Gatlinburg several times a year for nearly 3 decades. We've sampled everything the mountains have to offer in terms of commercialized spirits. We've seen distilleries, breweries, and likker joints come and go. We've tasted the best, and we've tasted the worst. Unfortunately, Sugarlands is among the worst, but it has to just be because of the tv show, because the stuff they're making just tastes like crap. It's SO syrup-y and muddled with low quality fillers its extremely off-putting. I don't care that they use all Tennessee products if the products they are using are inferior garbage that make their shine taste like swass. Their regular ol' high-proof shine that's not been tampered with isn't horrible, but there's also better in them hills. Seriously y'all - do better. read more

For the price, Sugarlands, is by far, the highest value and quality sampling of Moonshine throughout the Gatlinburg Strip. Our presentation of the sampling, by BP, was hilarious - he could easily be a character on late night comedy. You line up to pay and get a wristband, then get assigned to a huge ring-shaped table of like 20 people with the server in the middle, and they go through the 10 or 12 or so shots that you get to taste. The server was defintely entertaining and the moonshine and flavored cream liquors were mostly tasty, though some weren't great. They have tons of other flavors and spirits that you can buy as well, or pay for extra shots or drinks at the cocktail bar in the back, which was the best part! read more
