I'm a Chocoholic and can't not go into a Chocolate shop without checking it out. I was on the hunt for Triple Dipped Dark Chocolate Malt balls, and I can tell you they are a rare find because Milk Chocolate is the norm. Well they didn't have any either and I settled for the milk. They were $3 less expensive than the previous Chocolate shop I was in at least. They are jumbo size, and the Chocolate part is good quality. Anyway, they are delicious!!! This place is a candy paradise - they have everything! Honestly I just popped in for a smidge of air conditioning but it was fun to look around. They have a taffee puller right inside and they were handing out individual taffee samples which were fun. Located on the main shopping strip in Gatlinburg. We swung by while walking around and saw that they had taffy and malt balls made in house. Prices are reasonable and the saltwater taffy and chocolate malt balls were pretty good and well received. Parking is a bit of a hassle but we parked nearby in a restaurant lot that we ate at to avoid a $20+ parking fee. read more

Their taffy is DELICIOUS... and fun to watch! This place has been a traditional FAMILY FAVORITE for DECADES!! I took off a star because I'm still hurting that DECADES ago they got me HOOKED on a stick candy and stopped making it. (Vanilla/white/sugar outside & DARK chocolate "paste" inside). It was AMAZING!! I was brought a small box of plain chocolate and chocolate walnut fudge as a gift from this candy shop. I can't speak to how the service was or if the shop is cute, but the fudge is pretty dang good! It's on the softer side, slightly chewy and very deeply chocolatey. It's sweet, as all fudge tends to be, but not as overwhelmingly so as some other pieces of fudge I've had. The only downside is some of the walnuts have that...I dunno, funk? I associate with black walnuts. So that's a tiny bit of a downside. Still, didn't keep me from thoroughly enjoying my gift! Next time I'm Gatlinburg I'd be down to check this candy shop out in person. read more

Loved coming to this place as a kid and it's just as phenomenal as an adult. Service was amazing and the candy is to die for good.

I don't miss a chance to stop in here when I'm in the area. I love watching them make candies and treats! The staff are very helpful and friendly! You walk in to an old shop vibe with a glass case loaded with so many treats from fudge to buckeyes to anything chocolate-y and nutty you can imagine. Went to Ole Smokey Candy Kitchen yesterday! Just got my $14.29 for 1/2 a pound Almond clusters out and they look like the chocolate had porcupine quills! Not the beautiful smooth candy in the case with three almonds. The almonds were pieces. I purchased 4 candy apples and not even a twist tie to keep the fresh! All of my items were taken from out from under a counter and were unlike the beautifully displayed items in the nice sparking cases! Also I was charged a $1.94 cent fee besides the $3.43 tax. Thank goodness I paid cash, which was a 1.09 discount! The fees were after the discount. I know we pay tax but all these other fees are out of hand. read more

This is one of our few MUST DO stops when we come to Pigeon Forge or Gatlinburg. We've been coming here for decades and the candy is still just as wonderful as always. Other shops don't even compare. If you like fresh homemade taffy or melt-in-your-mouth chocolate perfection, you have to come here. You can watch the taffy man pulling taffy right in front of you, and he'll give you a free sample while it's warm. So yummy! Then you can go to the counter and choose your own custom selection of taffy flavors for your box, so you only buy the flavors you like (they do also have a premade box of assorted flavors). When you walk around the counter you will find an amazing assortment of deliciousness - fudge, divinity, nut clusters, toffee, chocolate covered creams, choc covered pretzels, choc covered cherries, and on and on and on. Many items are available in milk chocolate, dark chocolate, or white chocolate. They even have some sugar free options. My personal favorites are the little molasses honeycomb crunch bars (not sure if this is the exact name, but they'll know what you're talking about if you ask for it. It has a hard crunchy interior that looks like a honeycomb when you bite into it, and it's coated in milk or dark chocolate. I don't know how you mess up fudge so bad but they can. PB and chocolate fudge tasted the same. Truffles also tasted the same as I just tasted them and didn't eat them. You can watch taffy being made from the front window and this entices you into the store yum! The store is pretty big. They have all different kinds of candy. They even have the traditional bright red candied apples I remember so well as a kid. I bought a box of prepackaged assorted chocolates. The Ole Smoky Candy Kitchen is a must for our every visit to Gatlinburg. It's become a tradition of ours to come watch them make some taffy in the window and then go in and buy some fudge. They have all kinds of candy, chocolate covered items, fudge, candy, and candied apples. They have prepackaged candies as well as things you can buy by the pound. We usually get the "brown bears" (chocolate covered assorted nuts) and some fudge. I like both the chocolate peanut butter and the regular chocolate fudge. The store is pretty big and always clean. This place is pretty sweet! It is indeed more than just a candy shop! You can actually watch them make fresh candy if you catch them at the right time! They also have all kinds of old fashioned candies that you can't find in the grocery store. One of my favorites are the chocolate ice cubes! They make several different flavors of fudge, candy apples, and baked treats, in house. I wouldn't exactly say that this shop is unique, because there are several more in Gatlinburg with the same idea. The pics you see by others are not the right store. There are two here in Gatlinburg. They are the same company, however, this one at this address is the original store that was here many moons before the one at 644 down the street. This is the one I watched the delicious taffy being made through the window as a child in the 70's. And it looks exactly the same and the candy is totally fresh and perfect and awesome. Same candy down the street of course but this location is thee original store. So good they put another one a few doors down with a restaurant. The prices are also unbelievable. Example. I love candy apples. A store across street sells small candy apples for 3.30 and at this store a good sized one is 1.50. We got two candy apples a big bag a fresh taffy and some chocolate for 12 bucks. I'm so glad this store is still here. Made me so happy read more

I was extremely impressed with this candy store. It was my first time visiting Gatlinburg and excited to try local chocolates. We bought a couple of chocolates including fudge. We spent almost $30 on sweets to last us through the weekend in Gatlinburg. We went inside the store, had fairly good service despite the crowds, and tried some of the taffy. The taffy was really good, which encouraged us to buy fudge, pralines, and chocolate-covered Oreos. We got home, looking forward to sweets after dinner, and were disgusted with the quality of the sweets. The fudge was rubbery and tasteless and the pralines tasted stale. The Oreos weren't impressive, but the saving grace was the taffy. Don't get me wrong -- the taffy is NOT good enough to make up for how disgusting the rest of our sweets were. That's $20 down the toilet. We'll be going back into town tomorrow to find somewhere else that makes FUDGE, not chocolate-scented rubber erasers. read more
