I finally had a chance to visit Auntea Ha again and I can now confidently upgrade my rating to a 5. This is my favorite boba in Portland at this point. This time around, I tried playing around with the sugar level as I found 50% last time to be barely sweet. They add condensed milk to the drink by hand, so I think they aren't that consistent with sweetness. Oolong Milk Tea, 50% Ice, 75% Sweet w/ Boba ($7.25) - This is a really fragrant oolong with plenty of grassy notes. It reminds me of a High Mountain, but when I asked the bobarista she said that it's a Vietnamese Oolong. Quite interesting and very enjoyable flavor. 75% sweet is about the right sweetness for me. The drink otherwise is super thick and rich with a condensed milk that adds a ton of complementary milky flavors and lots of body. It's a great drink. The boba is similarly great. It's excellent, plenty sweetened with basically the perfect bounce and chew. It's a great texture, nothing that I'd change with their recipe. Milk Tea Rating: 5/5 Boba Rating: 5/5 Black Milk Tea, 50% Ice, 100% Sweet w/ Boba ($7.25) - Another great drink, this time a super strong almost chocolatey and caramel-like flavor, with a roasty finish that almost reaches roasted coffee-like flavors. This place deserves a 5-star alone for the service. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When I came in not only was the spot so cozy and chill, the main lady behind the counter was super friendly and really worked with me to figure out exactly what drink I should get and what sweetness level, and she was right on.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] She said she likes drinks a bit sweeter so their 100% tends to be on the sweeter side. She also said they make pretty strong tea so even at 50% you will often get bitterness so be careful. I ended up getting the sea cream jasmine tea at 75% sweetness and it was perfect for someone who likes things balanced and a bit less sweet. The drink menu is perfectly small but full of inventive delicious drinks, highly recommend this spot as one of the best in Portland and local to boot. It's definitely become a staple in my boba scene because 1. the tea is actual tea and you can really taste it, 2. the texture of the boba is amazing, 3. service has always been so kind and helpful! All of their teas are great including their fruit offerings like the passion-chee aka passionfruit lychee; though I have to say that they have one of the best thai teas around too. Their boba never misses in terms of the perfect chewy texture, the slight sweetness, and the overall taste! It also wasn't an issue with the sugar level as I've had plenty of jasmine tea without any sugar and it does NOT taste like that. Maybe kinda if you were to somehow burn it? No idea, but the tea itself wasn't very good. The boba on the other hand was really good, perfect amount of chew for me, and it was sweetened just enough. Overall, was okay. I used a glass boba jar I brought with me (I won it at a Yelp elite event! Thanks Sarah!) which saved me 10 cents and reduced plastic use. The passion-chee tea was tropical and I loved it with 50% sweetness and lychee jelly. The passion-chee is made with lotus tea or you can ask for jasmine, so it has a floral note either way. I love that there was just an inch of ice, not tons. The wicker seats at the table are comfortable (if a little tall, I'm 5'8" and I can swing my legs a little and the seat cuts into the back on my thighs so I have my feet propping my legs up higher to prevent this. Still these are better than the chairs I see other places with metal seats and those little metal side pieces that cut into my wide hips and are narrower than my pelvic bone. Hate those chairs). One thing I really loved was that when I asked for no sugar, my drink really felt like no sugar. Often times, I'll ask for no/reduced sugar, but the boba shop still makes the drinks overly sweet but Auntea Ha didn't! (In fact, they even double checked with me before as they were worried it would be too bitter for me). In terms of seating, it's very limited and a big pickup and go place--there aren't really tables for working, so I wouldn't recommend it as a studying place. We came back for one last boba run before we went back to Seattle and I'm so glad we did! The Boba consistency was perfect this time around and the Oolong milk tea was our absolute FAVORITE. Auntie Ha is sooooo kind and caring and very friendly. Her shop is soo cute and best of all its DOG friendly! The bathroom was clean and open to customers. We bought our some friends in the shop with us this time around and all got drinks for our drive back to Seattle. Jasmine milk tea is a top seller here and it was delicious with crystal boba, we got it 50% sweetness along with the Oolong. The only downside is parking can be a bit difficult to find, so you'll have to drive deep in the neighborhood to snag a spot. There are a few spots out front, but they were taken both times we visited the shop. Overall, I think we found a great new boba place! We will definitely be back with our pups next time around! We ordered a jasmine and oolong milk tea with boba less sweet. Unfortunately, we were both pretty disappointed.
