Four people "working" while only one person serving customers. The line is backed out the door...worst service I've ever seen.

This review is really a 3.5 star rounded up. It's been 8 years since my last visit to Whitsett and…read morethe Red Oak Lagerhaus and Biergarten and I was excited to return. This visit was prompted by the recent opening of the Wursthaus that is serving up food consistently in addition to the food truck that is often on property. The inside of the lagerhaus is as lovely as I remember. I got a 6 beer flight so I could sample most of their delicious beers. There was steady business but it didn't feel too busy/full inside. Some people were opting to be outside at the fire pits. Not me. We stepped out to the Wursthaus to get lunch. The menu is pretty limited: Brat, Brat bites (cut up with no bun), frankfurter, and pretzel. Not sure if there is a launch menu or if this will be permanent. I got the hot dog with onions and I requested the mustard (that you "HAVE TO REQUEST" per the sign). It was fine. The mustard wasn't included so I had to return to the wursthaus window to get it. The bun was soft and the frankfurter a good size, overhanging the bun. The limited topping options and the DIY nature of the mustard was a little disappointing. My biggest gripe with this place is it feels like going to my grandparents house: there are so many rules. Don't back into parking spaces No kids Don't step on the grates Open door slowly No outside food And maybe there were more. Just feels really uptight for a nice space that probably should feel more relaxed. :shrug Still, I'll return for beer in the future.

It was Katie's, and then Katie's moved upstairs, which granted that space available for Boscov's to move in and take reign of the Piedmont Mall once and for all. Until its eventual downfall in 2012. I guess it heard the end of the world was coming and decided to get on out before the going got tuff. Anyway, Dunham's doesn't really do it for me as pretzel joint. I've been to Katie's Pretzels when it moved upstairs into a little space on the corner across from Belk: my favorite location of them all in the Piedmont Mall. Here is where Katie's Pretzels really came into their own. I mean - WHAAT a location!! This ensured I would visit a part of the Piedmont Mall I would never have traversed otherwise. What even IS Belk ?! But all of the wonders of Katie's Pretzels could not have prepared me for what they would enact - and rightfully deserve - next: a name change. Monk's. Monk's Pretzels is a step into nirvana. Babylon. Pure, unadulterated bliss. A name change in conjunction with the name change of the Piedmont Mall to the Danville Mall. This is pure power, folks. This is as fine as it gets. Visit this place at once. 5 stars. Favorite item: orangeade. Medium please!

I always want the fish sandwich but they don't have the fish I want (picky! ). My son got the chicken sandwich which was really great. The bun was so fresh. My FIL got the Benedict. It was huge. I still love the fruit tart - good texture and mix of sweet and slightly tart. The macaron and elephant ear was pretty good. The macaron had good flavor and texture. Elephant ears tasted good, though I would've preferred more layers and more of a crisp. Lemon poppy danish was the standard danish. I sadly wasn't as impressed by the cream puff and eclair dough. I know they make their pastries fresh every day but on a busy Saturday at 10:30 am, the eclair dough didn't taste fresh and was not as light and airy as I hoped. Cream puff was ok. The dough was also meh. BUT the focaccia was amazing!! It was on-sale day old bread but had great flavor and was soft on the inside and slightly crispy in the outside. All in all, for what's in the area and restaurant's atmosphere, it's still worth the trip.
