I came here with my husband today while exploring Downtown Graham for a late lunch. Walking in was like walking into a cafe from the 1950's, which I love a good historic trip. Everything was delicious when it came down to the food, I had the Slider Wrap with Steak and southwestern sauce with a side of chips. My husband had the Philly Cheesesteak sub. This place would have gotten a 5-stars, but I have to give it a 3-stars because of our waitress. Our waitress was a woman with short red hair and a peach Myrtle Beach shirt on. It took a while for her to come greet us, if that's what we are calling it. When she came to our table, there was no "hello, how are you doing" or the typical customer service interaction where she told us her name. Instead, she asked us what we wanted to drink with some attitude. She didn't have much customer service behind her interaction. When she came back with our sweet teas, she abruptly wanted to take our order. When she had asked me what I had wanted for my side, I asked if the chips were house-made. Instead of saying "yes/no, they are/are not house-made" , she rudely told me "we have chips". She barely came to our table to check up on us from the time we were there. Since I have been working in the restaurant industry for 10 years, I shook it off that maybe she was just having a bad day. That was until some regulars sat in the booth behind ours. Both me and my husband had heard her being extremely friendly with this particular table and was constantly at this booth checking up on them, which did not leave the best first impression for service with this place. This is a small, locally owned real soda shop. What a delight! We stopped in here for the first time with our young granddaughter on a Thursday around 1pm. The place was full but not packed. We immediately took a seat in a booth (self-seating) and were soon brought some menus. The waitress came around a minute later and took our drink and food orders. I had a hotdog and fries, my wife had a banana split, and we got chicken strips and fries for the granddaughter. All of the food was brought out quickly enough and was nice and hot (except for the banana split, which was cold ). The dog and fries were good. It was a normal size dog, but nothing indicated it wouldn't be. The fries were crispy and tasty. The kids' meal was more food than even I could have eaten. I have no idea how big an adult size chicken strips must be, but the kids' portion will feed an adult. The banana split was loaded with all the fixins' and we all had some but the whipped cream was melted. We also got chocolate milk for our granddaughter, and it was milk with chocolate syrup mixed in. PERFECT! It took me right back to my childhood. The place was very clean, the service was fast and friendly, and the food was hot and good. We will most definitely go here again when in the area. My husband and I stopped into the Graham Soda Shop this past Sunday for lunch and were pleased with the classic diner/soda shop atmosphere, friendly service, affordable prices, and tasty food. I ordered the Fried Chicken Salad with Ranch dressing and James ordered the Frisco Burger with onion rings. I was happy to find that they definitely do not skimp on the chicken when it comes to their salads; I was only able to finish half the salad because of the large serving size! James really enjoyed the Frisco burger as well, though it was perhaps a bit smaller than some restaurant burgers. We both agreed that the onion rings were delicious. I look forward to returning to try their milkshakes and other menu items! One thing to note is that they have a large Sunday lunch crowd - if like us you are trying to avoid crowds, I would suggest coming at a less busy time. The staff is doing a good job at taking precautions during this time, but the restaurant itself is a tad narrow and it is difficult to keep a 6' distance when everyone is waiting for a table. They could probably make things even safer by asking guests to wait outside (weather permitting) until tables become available. read more

I found my dining experience at the soda shop to be pretty great. The service was excellent. We ordered a small order of medium hot wings, split their Velveeta burger(and they did split it for us!) along with housemade chips and a cookies and cream shake for dessert. The vibe is very 50's/60's and they stay very true to the retro sports vibe. It's a fun place I see folks revisiting over the years and even bringing their kids and grandkids. I do not know if they get their ice cream elsewhere or churn them themselves but the shakes were pretty solid. Even the wings and burger were pretty tasty. The housemade chips were crunchy but unfortunately slightly overcooked. I would like to try one of their plates in the future but so far, this is a good pick for wings and shakes. read more

Not sure why this restaurant has some low reviews. We've eaten here multiple times (dine-in and carry out). Every experience has been great. The staff are super friendly and the food is delicious! I love their chips with ranch. Super yummy! The fries are delicious too. We've tried burgers, onion rings, Buffalo dipped chicken tenders, etc and everything has been delicious. One downside would be the limited seating during busy hours but other than that I would definitely recommend this place. read more

We were there on a very busy Sunday when there was a line at the door for tables. Kudos to the staff for hustling and keeping things moving. I wanted to give a more positive review but my burger was over cooked and dry as a hockey puck. which surprised me. I thought since they were so busy, burgers would be flying off the grill. The food is always delicious and the sweet tea is amazing. They also have of those ice shaving machines if you care about the type of ice that comes in your drinks. The poor service I received single-handedly lowered my rating of the Graham Soda Shop from three stars to two stars First, though, on a positive note, GSS is located in adorable downtown Graham, NC, and is itself cute as a button inside and out, filled with memorabilia from yesteryear. The best part about my meal was the hot dog all the way, which had a good tasting dog, very good chili, and decent slaw. I wish the bun had been toasted. But a solid effort nonetheless. The burger was a bit small for what I paid and was also overcooked-- I ordered medium, but it came out well done. It wasn't dry, but it wasn't right. The fries actually had a good taste, but were greasy and needed some Viagra. Fries should never ever be that limp. My guess is the oil was not hot enough. The worst part of my experience today was the service. I think the server was new, because he didn't seem to know much about the menu. He never checked on me once, and I really could have used some Texas Pete. I finished my meal and waited several more minutes for a check that never arrived. I finally got up and went to the register, where my server had been hunkered down for several minutes trying to decipher the cash register system. He looked like a Monk trying to understand and translate the Septuagint into Latin. He never succeeded. After several more minutes of standing there waiting, another person, whom I took to be a manager or owner, finally came out and asked what I had and rang it up on a different register. The monk barely even looked up at me except to offer a perfunctory "thanks" as I turned to leave. I have a feeling that this place is much better than what I experienced today. We use to eat hear a lot but the food has gone down hill over the past few years. Waitress was nice. Food we ordered was ok we had salad, sandwhiches, onion ring, and chips. Onion rings were greasy. I took them home dried the grease off and reheated in a convection oven. I think I will stick to the sweet potatoe fries. I also decided to take lasagna home for a family member. I had to order it after seeing two people eating it. It looked delicious. I took it home for a family member to eat. She could not eat but 3 or 4 bites because it had oregano poured on it instead of a little bit being mixed in the sauce . After a few bites and chucks of tomatoes she threw it away. Afew hours later she was sick from the abundance ot oregano and she had to stay near the house for several hours. She felt terrible the rest of the day. This was my favorite spot, me and my boyfriend realized that some of the servers weren't so nice, we could feel how they will just stare at us in a disgusting way. Maybe if we were a " different color " ( white ) we will be approached different. I bet you if we were a lighter skin tone they will make sure we are good. We would have to wait 15-20 min to get a menu and another 15-20 for the food which is understandable, but for the menu now let's be real, any other place we have gone to we wait a max of 3-5 min. They will literally just stand there and look at us. The food is great and all it's just the services, it's not all the waitresses tho, just like 4 in general. read more

What a great setup - nice 50's style soda shop decor, pictures of local citizens and decades of area high school sports teams on the walls, a great location in the town square, and the announced return of "Apple Pie Ice Cream". But at the end of the day, you still have to bring good food and decent service, and there in lies the rub. The food is somewhere between ordinary and down right strange - or maybe it 's" Fusion Soda Shop" cuisine. The hot dog is an all beef, skinless wiener of a somewhat tan color relatively rare in nature. The dog is constructed with the wiener first (good call), then the chili (weak in flavor other than some sweetness), then chopped RED ONIONS (yes, red onions - is this a tea party?), and finally, the mustard (what a party foul) - wow, what a train wreck of a hot dog. The Club Sandwich consists of only TWO slices of bread, some forms of pressed meat product, an abundance of cheese food, and a lonely slice of bacon. Neither of these two items would I feel compelled to order in an unlikely return visit. We don't visit here often enough because it's a hike from Durham, but every time we do we say we should get there more often! Their prices are excellent and I've always had a very good experience in every sense. Today we just wanted dessert. I got one scoop of black cherry ice cream (Huge pieces of black cherries) topped with hot fudge for less than $2.50 and it was ample. Now come on, where are you going to find that anymore?!! My dining partner got a two scoop vanilla hot fudge sundae with whipped cream and a cherry for $4.99. Oh, by the way, the ice cream is from Homeland Creamery, which is a family owned dairy in a nearby town called Julian and it was sooo good! I've had burgers here, which are very good and deep fried mushrooms, which are very hard to find in central NC. I don't know why, but they are so I'm glad to have another place to add to the list when I have a craving! I always enjoy the decor and the staff is friendly and attentive. In the past few months service is really bad. First all there phone messages and website direct you to place orders on line. After trying multiple times I called and waited 40 mins. Then when I arrived and the order was complete it sat on the counter for 10 mins, I tried to ask multiple people but they would say in a min. Then last night I tried to order again, I called waited for 30+ mins went in to order, told the girl I've been on hold, she just looked at the phone, I replied with yeah I hung up so no one's on the phone. On the plus side the waitresses were nicer but until they get their ducks in a row I WONT be back! I'll support other businesses in Graham... not this one. read more
