I was skeptical about this place based off the reviews but was really needing some pampering so I tried it out anyways. AND IT WAS A GOOD EXPERIENCE! I went in and the salon is outdated decoration wise compared to newer salons nowadays, but the chairs were massage chairs and were subtle and good. I got a pedicure which was GREAT! Properly cleaned my nails, massage was so good that I decided to get a massage there. The massage was very relaxing, great pressure, pretty sure I fell asleep a couple times. I will say the gel polish isn't the best salon grade because she had to do 3 layers of color but it still looked great when she was done and I've had my toes done for 2 weeks now without any chipping. However, the quality of service was not good and the location was junky/dirty. I got a gel pedicure and I was not happy upon leaving. Alrighty, my wife and I are 1st timers so bare with me. We arrived and the place is on the main strip, so (parking is at your own risk). We first arrived and entered the establishment, and was like okay okay, we're is everyone lol. There was kinda a language barrier, however that didn't really stop anything. Once we informed the masseuse, that we have a Groupon she figured it out, and was escorted to the room. Walked to this back room was given towels, gestured to change and lay down. Massage was for fifty minutes, in my rookie opinion wasn't bad massage, lady was firm and light where needed to be. The wife enjoyed hers as well. She spent all of 10 minutes on my daughter's toes- no hot towel, no nothing. I had leftover gel on my big toes and she charged me an extra $10 to take it off- which is acceptable. HOWEVER....the job she did, I could have done at home. The color is bumpy, not smooth. The best part? She charged me $40 for my daughter and $40 for me (plus $10)- not same services and a horrible job. The seats were broken and full of crumbs. The wall behind the drier was moldy. He didn't know what he was doing because he dropped wax on my clothes and left it all over my face. I had to use google translate to express to him what a terrible job it was and then when trying to pay, He tried to charge my card twice, I took my debit card back and left as he was trying to charge my card multiple times. It took me almost an half hour after I got them done to get the excess wax off of my face. I will never be coming back here. I only came here because it was close to my hotel while I'm on vacation. I wasn't sure I wanted to post this, I try to promote positive experiences as much as possible. I should have read the reviews first. Plus, I notice when their management responds to reviews, they make the customer wrong. I'm going to be as positive as possible. On Tuesday, my hub and I decided to treat our young one to her first pedicure. Since this place was conveniently located to our hotel, we chose it. We were greeted fairly kindly and seated in the chairs right away after selecting our colors. There were two ladies drying. The workers were a man an woman. The woman did my, the man my daughter's. I chose a solid but she wanted alternating colors. My soak, 'scrub' and wash was 15 mins. Shortest time I've ever had. There were no gloves and the tools and scrub brushes were later rinsed with hand soap and put in a machine (to sanitize?). Wish I noticed that ahead. My young one's pedi was also about 15 mins. She didn't need much, he forgot the lotion. The problem arose when he began her color. He polished and removed her polish literally 40-50 times. I could see he wanted it to be neat, but he needed to take the 'L' and pass her to someone else. I didn't realize how long we were there, finally a young lady came in and he asked for help. (Why didn't he ask the lady who did mine?/ Why was another lady snapping greens next to the pedi chair?) She put the polish on fairly neat and told us ten mins. After 15 I called my husband for pick up. They told us it wasn't dry but we had to go and said we would be careful. Before bed the polish was messed up! I was proud of how patient and kind my young one was! I had to apologize for this experience. The sad thing was the lady looked down on the tip, though we still tipped 15%. The guy was thankful, maybe because after all that he felt he shouldn't accept it. I was also disappointed they didn't even try to compensate us for the time: paint her nails or give a coupon or just apologize to her?? Very aggressive in standing close while choosing color and will demand to pay before service. If you don't have exact change they will tell you they're keeping the change as a tip even though you don't know the quality of work. This place gave me anxiety and I was extremely intimidated. It's also not as clean as I feel it should be but I paid before service and was afraid of confrontation while asking for my money back. If you patron, good for you-not my standard salon. Got a pedi for two here right before they closed. Selena did a wonderful job juggling the two of us at once and she was super nice despite us coming in a bit late. She gave my boyfriend a really good scrubbing on his feet for the dead skin and a perfect black paint job for me. She definitely made us feel comfortable and appreciated and the atmosphere is really relaxing. This place is NOT clean and i would have gotten up and left if I hadn't been in desperate need of services (guess most people get their work done before vacation...note to self). I don't know VA regulations but I didn't see any sanitizing of nail tools between customers, the nail stations were old and they didn't wipe down or put the plastic covers on the pedicure bowl. i went with my friend to get a facial for myself and an acrylic set for my friend. There was one lady working for 5 people at once and my friends nails were not dry and ended up chunky. For my facial the people did not speak english and had to call a friend to speak to me and they did not use gloves. products looked old and crusty and they were very harsh. It felt like they were ripping off my skin and during the process they ripped off my socks to massage me but it was not wanted and was painful. Our "face massage" consists of them smacking the face. We never got a massage before so we decided to try this place. Groupon has a special for this place for a couples massage and we said why not? We could've done better for our first time. It's located next to Countryhill Suites on Atlantic Avenue. Being in the Oceanfront means you are on your own when it comes to parking. The spa does pedicures, manicures, and massages. There was a language barrier with the staff as they were all Chinese I believe. We were led into the couples massage room with no instructions. We dressed down and prepared ourselves. My massage was okay with some techniques that hurt but it was a full body one. My fiancé's did not like her massage because it was too light and she wasn't comfortable with expressing it. This was our first time getting a massage so we were inexperienced. The Groupon does not include tax and tip and the tip is important as they will "demand" it from you. I'm rating their massage service. It was my first time ever getting a massage at a local business. This was the worst experience I've ever had! There's a Groupon for $60 for both couple for 1 hour. When we got there, they said we had to pay an extra $4.00, which I don't understand why, but I don't mind that too much. We got escorted to the room and the lady shut the door behind her leaving us in the room so confused! She didn't even tell us instructions! So we saw robes and put it on and sat on the bed. Also the hole to put your face down barely had a hole! The towel blocked it off so it was so hard to breathe. I didn't like most parts of the massage. My husband and I stayed in Va Beach for Valentines/Birthday weekend. Decided to check out Aura Day Spa because it was open on Sunday and accept walk-ins. My husband got a 60 minute massage that lasted 45 minutes. I had a pedicure which sucked! She rinsed my feet with cold water. I also had to ask her to redo my heels because she spent so little time on my pedicure. Never paid $30 for a 17 minute pedi. When our service was complete the two ladies asked if we could tip $10, $15, or $20. Are you kidding me? We don't mind tipping but don't be tacky and ask. We gave a $9 tip. I started not to give anything due to the rude behavior and demanding of our money. I nor my husband was satisfied with our services received. Do NOT waste your time or money at this establishment. Very poor service when you stop in the middle of a pedi to get another customer situated. She worked on another customer immediately following my service and only rinsing the same the equipment. I read the reviews beforehand and saw that most were bad but I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. I also saw that the really recent ones were a little better, but I can't say that I had the best experience here. We made our appointment for an hour couples massage with hot stones. We got there and there and one person there at the time. She took us and started alternating between the two of us for like 20 min until someone else got there. The 20 minutes of her going back and forth between the both of us was in the hour. So we got like 40 min of actual massage time. Then they didn't spent more than 2 min on any one area. It felt more like a rub than a massage to be honest. There was no pressure behind it and we had asked for deep tissue. Hot stones were not even used the correct way. They just put them in towel and laid it over our back for warmth. I've been to a lot of massage places and am used to getting a massage at least every three weeks and this place is definitely my least favorite and I've been to some really bad ones. read more

I was a little worried after seeing the reviews, but I had been here a couple years ago for massages and needed some me time and maintenance before going back to work. Just a couple people there early on a Friday morning. Found a friendly greeting and a clean place. The young woman who worked with me did a fantastic job. The massages I had in the past were incredible with deep tissue technique and accupressure points. I tipped what I usually would coming from the DC area and she thanked me graciously. There is also the usual sign suggesting different levels of tipping and the amounts are not out of line. Here is my theory on the friendliness/rudeness issue: there is a language barrier, but they really have it handled. If anything is not clear, there is a person available via cell phone. If you are looking for a friendly greeting, a way to order services then agree on a price, and a thank you/good bye, then all is well. If you are needing an indepth discussion on customized services, then maybe work with the cellphone contact. If you are looking for that southern hospitality that is prevalent in this area or the chattiness that we all do sometimes enjoy at a spa, that's not what this is. This an efficient in-and-out spot with reasonably priced services. I won't hesitate to go here, again. If you want something more or different, there are plenty of options a little further off the beach that provide additional luxuries at those more luxurious prices (see my other reviews for some of those, too). read more

This place doesn't even deserve the 1 star I gave it. My friend got us mani/pedi's for my birthday off Groupon. When we arrived at the spa, the gentleman told us that we owed more money for taxes. Weird, right?! Anyways, we paid the extra "taxes" and were excited about our pampering we were about to receive. The place was awkwardly quiet and dingy. Not really what you expect from a spa. It was extremely unorganized and dirty. They had the front door propped open and it let all the hot humid air inside, so I felt sticky the whole time. When the gentleman took my old polish off, he left it all over my feet. So I had to go about my day with purple feet. The nails were crooked and my rough spots are still rough. He scrubbed my feet for maybe 10 second seconds. Then we went over to get my manicure. As I was getting my nails filed, the other employee asked me if I wanted my eye brows waxed and I said "sure, why not". Then she comes over to me and starts waxing my eyebrows while I am sitting there!! My neck hurt so bad from having to lean over while she plucked, yet trying to keep still while her coworker did my nails. He never cut my cuticles, shaped my nails or buffed them. He proceeded to dip my hands in the wax. After it dried, he took it off and just started painting my nails! Never even took the access wax off my nails, so there was bubbly waxy bumps in my nail polish. Throughout this whole process I was never told to go wash my hands( unlike any other salon I have been to) even after taking my polish off. I wish I could give this place a better review. To start, the employees are very nice, at least the ones that I dealt with. It is also a clean facility albeit small. What had me rate it so low were a couple things. First, the skill level of the nail techs is very amateurish. I've had friends give me a better manicure and pedicure. It's been four days and the paint is already chipping. Secondly you are strong armed into tipping them the amount they want you too. Aura is a small, clean spa on the ocean front. The staff was very nice and the prices are on par with other spas. The bad thing about it being on the ocean front is the lack of parking. Most of the lots nearby are reserved for the hotels. My friend and I both got mani-pedis with hot stones. The pedicure was great for the both of us, but the manicure leaves something to be desired. I had shellac on my nails and the manicurist didn't recognize it and tried to take it off like it was regular polish. They then had me soak my hands in acetone. I was internally cringing the entire time about how dried out my hands were going to be. I know there are better methods of soaking the shellac with acetone. I then had to wait for 15 min while they looked for a clear shellac top coat (I'm Navy and unfortunately bright colors are a no-no). She didn't do a great job of filing my nails evenly either so the end result was a little rough looking. My friend had a French manicure, but it came out looking a little matted and also rough looking. The white tips were uneven and the one nail that was redone didn't look any better. The lady who did my mani-pedi definitely had less experience than the one that did my friend's. They constantly switched so the more experienced lady ended up painting all of my nails. My parents and I went in for pedicures as a family. There was no wait at all. My moms massage chair didn't work, they offered to move her but she declined since that would separate her from being near my father and I plus she was already 1/3 of the way through her pedicure ...Im also short so I usually have to slide my chair forward so they can reach me. My chair was broken also and wouldn't move forward so I pretty much had to scoot to the end of the chair so my feet could reach the nail technician.They didn't massage our feet at all.... and lastly my parents were finished with their pedicure 20 minutes before me and we all got the same service. Therefor they had to wait for me. The guy who did my feet had the hardest time just clipping my toenails down. Once the massage started the women dumped an excessive amount of oil on my back, and then work it through my hair. This lady kept going in one direction, and that was up and then down (that was it).
