My husband and I had the pleasure of hiring Chef Marty and his lovely wife Dawn to be our wedding caterers. From the very beginning they were very approachable and responsive both by phone and email, and the communication only continued to get better each time as we both learned more about what the wedding would be like. I even had one friend of mine who is from Texas, stand up at dinner and thank me because he *never* eats veggies when he can avoid it - and he went back for seconds for them!!! I used Aurora Catering for an event honoring my father. I knew the guests would be discerning about food so I wanted to choose a caterer who could deliver. I was also planning the event long-distance. It could not have been better!! The food was amazing. Mushroom empanadas are my favorite but we had something for everyone by including salmon/endive bites, tomato tartare, roasted root vegetables, and an extensive cheese board. The dessert bites were exceptional as well, and a perfect end to a wonderful event. The catering staff was great to work with, all the way through. Dawn and her team planned a fabulous menu for my husband's Celebration of Life last week at The Lighthouse at Glen Cove. Her selection of entrees reflected both attention to the diverse tastes of my guests as well as their dietary needs. Her presentation was both beautiful and functional with ease of access accentuated by the table location and the table decorations. I couldn't be happier! We were told by two foodie friends that if they were to have anyone cater their wedding, it would be Aurora. We took their advice, and now we will give everyone the same. You will not be disappointed. They were fantastic! COVID forced our ~100 person black tie reception to be reschedule to an intimate 25 person, backyard reception. I had catering all set up with another company for my toddler's birthday party. A week before the party, they contacted me to tell me that the business had been sold and that Dawn would be taking care of things from that point on. I freaked out since the party was coming up soon but Dawn was amazing. We confirmed everything and Julie showed up with all of the food on the day of the party. When we got the late news that our son's college graduation was going to be in person, I immediately reached out to Chef Marty and Dawn at Aurora Catering to ask them to cater a celebration for him and his best friends/fellow graduates. They created an amazing family-style vegetarian feast for the graduates and their families in Golden Gate Park. When it was apparent that San Francisco was not lifting covid-19 restrictions in time for the party, Chef Marty and Dawn pivoted from family-style to these ingenious individual picnic boxes - one for cool bites and one for warm bites. My husband is a chef, so you best believe that for our wedding we weren't going to settle for anything less than the most delicious food from the most kick-ass caterers. Aurora Catering met our high expectations, and went beyond them. First of all, the people who work at Aurora are joy in human form. Marty is a kind and sweet soul who exudes happiness into a party better than a pack of puppies, and Dawn is so on top of things that even a detail-obsessed bride and her culinary-minded husband can be put at ease. The cooks, waiters and bartenders were wonderful, too. Just thinking back on the party makes me want to get married all over again. And the food! We had an intimate wedding. It was small enough that people sat on picnic mats at our ceremony and didn't need table numbers at dinner. But at our party, we still had a 45-pound roast pig, eight roasted chickens, a bunch of side dishes, salads, cheeses, paté and seven cakes. But guess what? At the end of the night, ALL the food was gone. Our sweet little group of friends and family ate that monumental amount of food with happiness and gusto, and then practically (maybe actually...) licked their plates at the end. I found Aurora Catering through a list of recommended vendors my wedding planner provided me when I first started planning my November 2017 wedding. The notes along with their contact information stated that Chef Marty had experience working at Michael Mina's and that he and wife Dawn were accommodating and professional. We hired them and let me tell you...what an understatement. First, hands down, the food is to die for. If you go to a tasting, you will leave feeling warm, full, and convinced this is the caterer you want to hire. Almost everything we tasted was delicious and we got to taste a lot of it. Our favorites were the mini BLTs. After the wedding we had so many guests complementing the taste and portions of the food, and we were delighted to find boxed leftovers among the things we had brought home; enough to have for dinner again the next night! Tip: Definitely get the fish. We got line caught wild cod in miso sauce and it stole the show. It melts on your tongue, so delicious. Next, the level of service Aurora Catering as a whole provided was impeccable. From the bartenders to the behind the scenes support staff, everyone was so kind and helpful. My planner told me her experience working with Laura in particular was quite excellent. The entire production looked and felt flawless, largely thanks to the Aurora Catering staff. Lastly, from the first email to schedule a tasting to our wedding day and after, Dawn was extremely communicative, collaborative, and just a pleasure to work with. Dawn worked with us from day one to coordinate a beautiful, functional wedding on the Bay Area's hottest weekend ever. Dawn coordinated all of the table, linens, and serving ware rentals and her team set out the linens & tableware to make the space beautiful. She recommended that we actually buy the serving tools rather than rent them since it was the same price. *if you need to buy a ton of serving tools, let me know! I have many to sell at a discount to you!* Marty is a great chef and made delicious food--all of our guests were happy campers with our family style meal! We had chicken, brussels sprouts, tomato poke salad, and ratatouille on each table for guests to serve themselves without the need for a crowded buffet. I love family style because there ends up being a lot less food waste. Dawn hired a great catering staff for the wedding, too. The bartenders were great and the staff were all friendly and helpful. By far the best part of our wedding! I have to start by saying when we started our catering search, my husband and I had specific ideas in mind. We didn't want a "cookie cutter" wedding and we did NOT want the typical "wedding food" experience, (bland, basic, etc). I can't say enough about our experience with Aurora Catering. Dawn and Marty clearly know what they are doing and really enjoy doing it. Dawn asked all the questions I would never thing to ask and really took the time to get to know what we were looking for. She took care of all of the details from setting up for the ceremony, accommodating our beer flights for the cocktail hour, to making our reception look beautiful. We are the hands off kind of couple so we were able to tell her what we wanted but gave her some leeway to make the smaller decisions and it turned out great! We were in constant contact through email. My set up and location were kind of odd and I had some directions and information to give. So incredibly informative and helpful through the entire process. Marty was early, getting there even before me. We worked so well together. I set up the table presentation for food and for my presentation. He brought serving trays and some serving utensils. Dawn and Marty are a total dream team & a blast to work with, start to finish. They work very closely with you, to stay within budget & still serve your guests top notch delicious food. We had a rather big wedding and served our guests beet salad (with lots of pecans & fresh goat cheese), roasted heirloom tomatoes with quinoa, and (best of all) Marty's famous cheese grits. The main course was salmon. We had passed appetizers to start (a real array of creatively thought-out, delicious bites, including endive with creme fraiche & salmon). All of our guests were blown away. Dawn & Marty not only pulled this off right at our initial budget, they did it with charm, friendliness, & a great sense of humor. It was their first time working at the venue where we got married, and they brought their team in, served our guests, and broke everything down seamlessly. I really can't recommend Aurora catering highly enough. From first sampling their food (in the warm hospitality of their own home!) to the last detail the night of the wedding, they made the whole thing a real pleasure. read more

I have been wanting to have an event with Aurora for a few years now, so when it came time to plan my parent's 40th Wedding Anniversary party, I knew exactly who to call. I have personally known Dawn and Marty for years, and I was very excited not only to give them my business but to be able to share their talents with our closest family and friends. Every step of the process was smooth. Dawn was very attentive to our needs as we were figuring out the details of the party itself. She answered all of our questions, sent friendly reminder messages, and offered to help out with anything we needed. Even though she was not able to attend our event due to having another event booked, she communicated perfectly with her staff - everything went according to plan! On the day of the event, the staff arrived as scheduled. We were still setting up for the party and had 3 young children running about, but none of this phased the staff. They just got into the kitchen and got right to work preparing. Marty was an absolute joy! I love his passion for the flavor combinations he has developed. He was so excited to tell us about the different kinds of cheese included on the cheese plate, including each cheese's history and aging process. One was even aged in a cave! And of course, he let us taste some of the cheeses before our guests arrived. So many of our guests commented on his energy and his love for what he does. We ordered a few stationary platters for our table and 6 passed appetizers. Some of our favorites were the tomato and watermelon skewers, crostini with bleu cheese filet mignon, mini blt and the crossaint de nuit. Oh and the cheese plate was a huge hit! I am pretty sure that a line developed at one point. Derrick and Gabby (the staff) were wonderful and super attentive! I really appreciate how they both made sure I got to try everything, despite me running around during the party ;-) Overall, all of the food was amazing. Our guests could not get enough - everyone raved about how wonderful the food tasted! It was such a nice change of pace from our usual DIY family get-togethers.
