Aurora is a lovely space to stop in for a delicious treat (their scones are incredible!), but their bonbons and truffles also make really memorable party gifts. I recently worked with them to create adorable gifts for all of our guests at my parent's 30th wedding anniversary party. They were a huge hit and got rave reviews from everyone. I just had the bonbons from here tonight with my boyfriend. He works in Old City and after seeing a write up on philly.com he said how he wanted to stop in. I was not disappointed when he came home tonight with a small box of these bonbons. They were the most flavor packed bites of chocolate I have personally ever tasted. The combinations were unique and paired amazingly together. The box had 9 total inside and my boyfriend and I ate every single one. I told him we have to go back and get more. I love patronizing a local firm who also has a charming shop. Stopped in on Valentines Day for an emergency gift. The shop is quaint and pretty. I was greeted by a friendly young woman who helped me select a box of nine beautifully designed and flavored truffles. $3 apiece which is fine for this quality of chocolate. Where things fell apart was at checkout. Here it is Valentines Day and I'm being handed my gift in a plain brown box. Okay, I guess that's how they do it. I asked if a ribbon could be tied around the box. "Sorry, no ribbons" was the answer. How about a nice little bag with tissue paper. "Sorry, we don't have any." So I took my $27 plus tax box of chocolates and glumly left without even a bag. Aurora Grace, I wish you well. If I could give more than 5 stars I would because my experience with this business was perfection. I have ordered so many gifts over the years, for friends, family, work colleagues etc...and this was probably the best customer service I have ever had. My niece was going to be in Philadelphia, very last minute on her birthday and by herself. I very much wanted to send her something special that she would receive on her actual birthday. It was a Sunday and I am in Los Angeles and I called everywhere trying to find someone that could put something special together that would be delivered to her the same day. I had just about given up hope of finding someone on a Sunday and then I happened upon Aurora Grace. I spoke to Aurora herself and explained what I needed and what was impossible to everyone else was not a problem for her. I told her how much I wanted to spend and she would put together something amazing. My niece received her chocolates later that day and it made her birthday extra special. She was so excited and couldn't believe how beautiful the chocolates were. She almost didn't want to eat these mini works of art but it's chocolate so she did. Not only were they beautiful but she couldn't believe how yummy they were. She raved about them so much that even though I live in Los Angeles, I am going to order some custom chocolates for my son's college graduation party. Came here to buy a Valentines gift. They only had one Breakable Heart left on display, in a color I didn't prefer. Rather than telling me I had to make do with what was on the shelf, the lady on duty went and checked for more stock, got my preferred design, packed it, and wrapped it especially for me. I was delighted to find this new (for me) addition to the wonderful businesses on 5th Ave near South St. Allowed to sample some of the chocolates, I can attest to their deliciousness on par with their beauty. I'm planning on giving some great gifts from here this year to family members who already have enough "stuff." I couldn't resist purchasing a nice (as in not grotesquely oversized as in most ice cream shops) portion of mint chocolate chip gelato - it was divine, and a great way to treat myself on my walk home. Visiting this wonderful corner shop reminds me of Europe. A lovely experience. read more

I have been getting their scones at the Rittenhouse farmers market for the past few months but found myself passing their store the other day so I stopped in. All I can say is you need to go! The scones were warm out of the oven and 1 never made it home. I bought 3 bonbons for my husband to try. Not only do they look amazing but they taste amazing. Great high quality stuff. Cookies and chocolates are amazing. Reason for 4 stars is the service I got. The store was a little loud so there was a bit of a communication issue with the cashier I got. She was very annoyed that She couldn't hear me over the thick safety glass around the pastry items. It ended with her saying "what?!" with an accompanied eye roll and eye brow scowl. I finally had to say to her "ok, I can't hear you either" she wasn't very friendly. But I guess everyone has bad days. The chocolates were not only delicious they are so pretty. read more

I first found Aurora Grace at the Rittenhouse Farmer's market and bought an apple butter crunch breakfast bar, and it was outstanding. I was thrilled to learn they had a store in town so I could get their delicious stuff anytime! So I ordered a couple of pies for Thanksgiving and I can't wait. Unfortunately I'll have to share the pies with family and not keep them all to myself! Neighbors on Next Door highly recommended this place, and I was curious after passing the store multiple times, so I finally tried it today. I didn't love the double chocolate cookie, but it wasn't bad at all. It just wasn't my favorite. The chocolate cherry scone was much better, though I could do without the American style of coating it with sugar. Even so, it was tasty and I'd get that one again. read more

I heard that there was an excellent bakery close by in my neighborhood but did not have the chance to go until a copule of days ago. I always prefer to support local businesses. I brought home -much to my children delight- scrumptious cookies. The double chocolate cookie is to die for! The regular chocolate chip cookie and the peanut butter one are also really masterpieces. I also bought a few macaroons and I am not sure I am an expert in macaroons but they tasted ok to me. The filling was fresh ... maybe they are a bit chewy - but again I am not expert. I will go back and order more sweets for the holidays and those chocolate o display are def going to be one of my Xmas gifts to some of my lucky beloved ones this Christmas! read more

This is definitely NOT a place to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee and dessert. On our first (and last) visit my wife and I just wanted to relax for a few minutes while we were out walking. Unfortunately, while we were sitting with our coffee and dessert the staff began to literally SLAM baking pans of batter on the counter over and over and over.... This made an absurd amount of noise and I commented that I hoped they didn't have too many to do. The only reply was, "I'm afraid we do." The slamming continued for several minutes until we could take it no longer and left with our food and drinks. As we left, I mentioned to the stall again the absurdity of the noise level and let them know that their complete lack of concern for us as customers meant that we would not be repeat customers, which was too bad since we live nearby. This conversation took place as the slamming continued. It always amazes me how a food business believes it will thrive purely on the strength of the product. Unless the customer becomes a more important part of the equation, don't expect to see Aurora Grace a year from now. read more
