I've been going to Clarus since I moved to Olympia12 years ago. The care was decent at first (I had…read morea history of a retina condition, so they would schedule me with an ophthalmologist for my routine exams) but in recent years I noticed they make no attempt whatsoever at continuity of care, they just schedule you with a random provider. Two visits ago, they had the radio playing in the waiting room. Reception was terrible, mostly static, and I asked the receptionist to turn it off or re-tune it. She told me she "wasn't allowed" to touch the radio. So I mentioned it to the tech when she called me back. She looked at me like I was nuts, offering helpfully, "I just tune that out". Last visit, the optometrist was using a scribe, and she dictated a term to him that was unfamiliar to me. I interrupted her to ask her what it meant, and she acted annoyed and told me to " save (my) questions for later". Of course, later never came. Last week, I called and was offered an appointment over 2 months out. The only time available was 7:45 am. I appreciate they are open extended hours to accommodate more patients, but I decided to get a referral from McKenzie at Capital Eye (by the Fred Meyer in Lacey). She recommended an optometrist only group in Tumwater. I saw them this morning and the experience was 180 degrees--nice office, up to date equipment, good bedside manner etc. The only reason I give Clarus 2 stars is they do have ophthalmologists. So if you do need cataract or retina surgery or something like that, it might be a place to consider. And oh yeah, they do have nice frames and the gal who helped me pick out my last pair listened carefully to what I wanted and helped me pick out a better pair than I would have chosen for myself.

Absolutely the WORST retail service I've had in years! The…read moreVA paid for my retina scan at Clarus. The VA paid for my eye exam at Clarus. The VA was going to pay for new glasses for me presumedly at Clarus. But Frank at Clarus knows all about how it's really supposed to work with the VA and completely disregarded copies of the VA authorizations I shared with him. Again, Frank knows how it works and what the VA gave me is wrong (if he even read it which I doubt). Frank even has a piece of paper handout created there at Clarus he gave me again stating He was right and the documentation I had from the VA was wrong. Veterans under VA care are entitled to two pairs of glasses every couple of years. Maybe those are the Veterans Frank's piece of paper directions apply to. I'm a Veteran that has a disability from an eye infection I had in Vietnam some 50 years ago. Maybe, just maybe, I'm different than the Veterans Sir Frank's piece of paper might apply to. I will never, EVER again try to deal with the Clarus Eye Center.

One of the techs was totally condescending when I told her I was going to run out of the drops over the weekend (absolutely essential following surgery) and told me she was sure I wasn't and I had to get very firm to get the drops I needed. I would have liked to have a team I knew and they rotate people depending on the day of your service but I felt I got good care from most of them. I liked optometrist, Dr. Coombs, very much but he went on vacation and the 2 follow-up optometrists could not or did not answer why I had a smudge in my left eye's vision which my personal optometrist answered immediately. The improved vision in my eye is phenomenol and I felt well-treated by the 2 surgeons which of course is the most important thing. I am now getting flooded with requests for feedback. I started to answer the emailed one but they started by asking for personal infx and I know, as I am a psychologist, that this is not a good way to get the best and most honest information. Since then, I have been getting calls from Nexus Health. They don't leave a message and when I called no one answered the phone. I had no idea who they were. Today I was by the phone and answered and it was Nexus Health for Pacific Cataract etc. who wanted to ask me 8 minutes of questions and of course it wasn't anonymous. She interrupted me repeatedly while I explained I had found the calls from Nexus Health disturbing since I had no way of knowing Nexus Health was associated with Pacific Laser and I thought it might be some lab test or something and I had no way to get infx from them. Ironically, my good feelings about Pacific Cataract and Laser are being diminished by their heavy-handed attempts to get "feedback" while violating my privacy.

Live and learn. Much better treatment at Clarius, no problem, done in a flash.

My appointment was to pick out frames as I had received a prescription earlier this year from a different eye care company. I have NEVER had an experience like this. Deliah sat me down, asked what I liked -shape, colors, etc - asked if I had any photos and started getting to work. She chose frames that would compliment my bone structure, colors that compliment my eye color, skin color and hair color. The first pair she brought out I thought "oh these are the ONES" then she brought out another and another and I loved every single one of them! I ended up buying two pairs. One for the spring/summer and one for the fall/winter. I regret nothing! I had been going to an eye care place in tacoma for the past 19 years and never had an experience like this. I only remember ever picking out 2 frames in the entire 19 years of going there that I loved. Every other time I was just picking the "best" out of what they had. That's why I ultimately started shopping around elsewhere bc I wanted to LOVE my glasses, not just settle for a pair and count down the days until I could get a new pair. I found Rouse eye care by searching on VSP's website for an in network provider. I am so happy that I found them!

From there, they brought us, my husband came with as my driver, to recheck my eyes. We then went into a room where my eyesight was checked again by a doctor and finally by Dr. King who did my surgery. He was very personable and made me feel like I was an actual person not just a number. They offered a sedative but I declined and we then went to the surgery area. While I waited my turn, I relaxed in a massage chair which was a very nice touch. Once in the OR, the procedure took maybe 10 minutes and they talked me through the entire process. They asked me questions about myself which helped take my mind off of everything going on. After a quick recheck to make sure everything went well, I was on my way with my instructions, new night goggles and a bag of coffee. It was also a great comfort that, during the entire process, my eyes were checked several times by different doctors to make sure everything was correct. That night, I got a text from Dr. King checking in and I was very impressed by that. I never expected that! I was back the next morning for a recheck and was in and out in 20 minutes. There is a lot to commend about King LASIK but the top two things are the people and the facility. I don't think I could have asked for nicer and more confident staff, from the front desk gal to the doctors. The facility was also super clean! Very modern and comfortable as well. I have diabetic retinopathy, and Dr Hansen began to 'abrasively' ask me if I was aware of all the symptoms of my disease. Before I could answer the question, he continued on, reading from notes my retinal specialist had sent in, highlighting one horrendous diabetic symptom after the next. When I told him those notes were from 21/2 yrs ago, and my current condition had improved since then, he argued with me stating that the notes were from July this year (2023). It was as though he was 'illness-shaming' me in front of his assistant. His tone & manner was without empathy & utterly unprofessional. In the midst of this awful exchange, I thanked him & took my leave. His last words to me on the way out: "Nice workin' with ya!" I certainly wouldn't recommend anybody support a medical practitioner who treats his patients this way.
