The opthalmologist? I saw both times was beyond rude and dismissive. The Doctors who actually performed my cataract surgery were great. The initial examining Dr. was the person who was lacking in any skill communicating with any empathy or respect. It was that same Dr. who i saw about a chalazion who sent me to a plastic surgeon to do a routine treatment for it. Just did not want to deal with it.... the opthamologist i saw mext, different clinic, expressed that in 20 years of practicing she had never seen someone sent to plastic surgery ( no insurance coverage for that,). Live and learn. Much better treatment at Clarius, no problem, done in a flash. read more

Communication of my costs was very lacking. Was shocked when I arrived for my appt to find that I owed ~$1650 that day (was told it'd be about a $1,000) and another $300+ something afterwards. Following my surgery - AFTER - I was asked to sign a form saying that I understood what the costs "would" be! Screwy. No one apologized for their mistake. Supppose I couldn't cover the increase? Could easily happen to another senior - wait months for an appointment, only to have to cancel. And you're not allowed to drive yourself there, so you'd also have to call your friend or family member to bring you back home, all for nothing. read more

Most of my experience was good. The woman who takes care of the billing acted as though my insurance co wasn't going to pay when they had said they would and was MOST reluctant to look it up. (I was right.) One of the techs was totally condescending when I told her I was going to run out of the drops over the weekend (absolutely essential following surgery) and told me she was sure I wasn't and I had to get very firm to get the drops I needed. I would have liked to have a team I knew and they rotate people depending on the day of your service but I felt I got good care from most of them. I liked optometrist, Dr. Coombs, very much but he went on vacation and the 2 follow-up optometrists could not or did not answer why I had a smudge in my left eye's vision which my personal optometrist answered immediately. The improved vision in my eye is phenomenol and I felt well-treated by the 2 surgeons which of course is the most important thing. I am now getting flooded with requests for feedback. I started to answer the emailed one but they started by asking for personal infx and I know, as I am a psychologist, that this is not a good way to get the best and most honest information. Since then, I have been getting calls from Nexus Health. They don't leave a message and when I called no one answered the phone. I had no idea who they were. Today I was by the phone and answered and it was Nexus Health for Pacific Cataract etc. who wanted to ask me 8 minutes of questions and of course it wasn't anonymous. She interrupted me repeatedly while I explained I had found the calls from Nexus Health disturbing since I had no way of knowing Nexus Health was associated with Pacific Laser and I thought it might be some lab test or something and I had no way to get infx from them. Ironically, my good feelings about Pacific Cataract and Laser are being diminished by their heavy-handed attempts to get "feedback" while violating my privacy. read more

I wish there were a way to rate a place based on whether they keep their religious beliefs to themselves and don't proselytize. Medically, I don't have any complaints. I went to the Olympia office to have cataract surgery and it was a little like entering a factory, but I expected that with how healthcare is right now. The folks were kind and I felt like the docs were good. It seems like the surgery will be a success for me. If it were not for the proselytizing, I would give them 5 stars. I understood a little of this when I was asked if I wanted a prayer to be said by the surgeon before the surgery. Um, what? Well, I have nothing against prayer, but this seemed inappropriate to me since I worried what would happen if I said no. Would they then have an unconscious bias against me? Would they consider me one of the great UNCHURCHED? Who knows? Prayers can be completely silent, so if the surgeon wants to pray, go for broke, but don't ask me if I want to participate when I don't know you. I checked 'yes' because I technically have nothing against prayer of any kind so, I felt like it couldn't hurt. But honestly, it was because getting eye surgery made me feel super vulnerable and I didn't want to say no. But I was totally taken aback by being sent home after my first eye was finished, with a little swag tote filled with a book, a bookmark, and a card stating "The Coming Deception" on the front, and "Find out before it comes" along with a QR code on the back so I can go to a website and get scared for my immortal soul, I guess. In my book, this kind of proselytizing falls under the category of abuse. People undergoing medical procedures are in a vulnerable place. The people taking care of them are in positions of power. That intersection should be free of religious proselytizing. I don't know if this religious swag made the cost of my procedure go up, since printing books isn't free, but it certainly will make the landfill more full. Oh, and also they ask if you have a medical directive. They won't go by it, even if you do. So know that if you have a heart attack in the chair and you have a "DO Not Resuscitate" in your file, they absolutely will not honor it. They let people know that when they sign for surgery. I wish I could give more than just 5s... The staff , techs and Drs are top notch !! I only needed one eye lense replaced . Well the lense replacement surgery was a snap ! Total for prep time and everything I was in and out in about 45 minutes !! You don't see the doctor do anything because of the bright light shining in your eye... my vision the next morning was almost perfect already. I notice the complaints about these folks seem to be from folks that whine about everything... read more

These people refused to see me a second time saying I was uncompliant. I have no idea what their talking about thru sent a certified letter to my dentist saying they would not see me. My wife had her cataracted lenses removed a couple years ago. I was greatly impressed by their service and complete exam before the surgery. The surgery was almost in and out. We were amazed at how easy it was. I was able to watch the procedure and they gave us a DVD of it as well. She still sees 20/20 or slightly better with no after effects of the surgery. I go to PCLI for an annual glaucoma screening as ordered by my optometrist. As a fine art photographer, and based on my wife's experience, I won't go anywhere else!! The staff and doctors here are a remarkably caring group of people and I haven't been more impressed by an organization like this in a very long time. It isn't often one encounters such a well-run medical facility where one feels the care given is genuine, compassionate and exceptionally skilled. Every moment of my mom's interaction with the team at Pacific Cataract and Laser in Olympia was top-notch and outstanding. My mom is profoundly disabled and needs extra attention due to many ailments that afflict her, and the team worked well together to ensure my mom's surgery was completed effectively and precisely. I was able to accompany her in the operating room for both surgeries and watched this incredible team work together as though it was a dance choreographed with the expertise and skill of the surgeon and surgical staff. At every moment they worked to ensure my mom was safe and comfortable. Her first surgery was in the left eye was performed by Dr. Paul Chung, Cataract Surgeon and Glaucoma Specialist, and his capable team surgical and intake team. They were outstanding, and I felt they held to the highest standard of integrity and procedures. The facility was exceptionally clean, and one could tell the facility used the best equipment and medical professionalism. This facility and organization didn't cut corners to save money or seem to squeeze Medicare out of unneeded extras. I believe if you or your loved one needs cataract or other eye laser surgery, this is hands-down the best place to go. I know my mother was in good hands and the caring team members of this organization are all "one-in-a-million." Had some cataracts taken care of today, the staff at pcli were super professional and listened to every concern I had, I was in and out in approximately an hour and the whole procedure took less than 15 minutes! Had cataract surgery on both eyes, the right eye went fine but the left one they had problems with . I had to go to Sound Retina for major surgery and they say I have 20-20 vision I can tell that there is something wrong with the left eye. I am not sure the suture is completely removed, it always feels like something is in the eye. read more

No, a hospital setting is not necessary, a doctor that knows what is in the medications he uses, is. I now have an appt in Tacoma and it's not a hospital. They have worked with patients that have adverse effects to epinephrine AND are willing to accommodate this need. PCLI was not willing to use medications without epinephrine. read more
