    Lamb Seekh Kebab Rumali Roti
    Ash V.

My wife and I had a free night without our kids so we decided to go to Aurum that our friends keep telling us about. Ambiance and Service: The restaurant has a very clean and nice ambiance, it has the nicest and cleanest bathrooms I have ever seen at an Indian restaurant, and the service was great (Rahul helped us and he was awesome!). Food: This restaurant you should go in with the thought to order a few dishes and share; here is what we ordered: * Starters: Meet Me Halfway (Lamb Seekh Kabob) with Roomali Roti: This was OUTSTANDING. The kabobs were small (portion was too small in my opinion) but the taste made up for the size. The chutney it came with at the bottom was DELICIOUS (and unique). The Roomali Roti was exactly as advertised (roomali is Hindi for handkerchief and it was a paper thin roti). * Mains: - I'm Not Pasta: This was VERY UNIQUE. If you like Paneer, try this. I will be honest, it looks like lasagna which confused my brain but my pallet was not confused - it was delicious paneer with a familiar taste of saag and tikka sauce! Kudos chef!! - GT Road: The flavor of this chicken curry brought me back to my days as a young boy in India...it was DELICIOUS...must have! - Spinach and Goat Cheese Kulcha: OH MY GOD! This sounded not so great on paper...so glad we ordered it - it was SO GOOD! I would recommend you order two orders - one to just eat by itself (it is delightful by itself) and one to dip and break and eat with your mains...I can't stop thinking about this one - very good creation chef!! We will be back -- likely with our kids this time or not :)

Solid place, great location in Los Altos downtown. Not too big of a place, but has a great atmosphere that makes for a pleasant dining experience. The restaurant strikes a nice balance between upscale and approachable, perfect for a special occasion or when you're craving elevated Indian cuisine. The waiters were helpful too, and food didn't take too long! 5/5 Potato Chaat was worth it. This dish offered a unique twist on traditional chaat, and the flavors were on point. The combination of textures and spices really showcased what modern Indian cuisine can do with classic street food. 5/5 Saag Paneer Lasagna was my favorite. The cheese had the perfect melt, and the spinach paired really well with the layers. This fusion dish demonstrated excellent execution, bringing together Italian comfort food with Indian flavors seamlessly. The richness was balanced beautifully, and every bite was satisfying. 4.5/5 Jackfruit Kofta was also great. The flavors were complex and well-developed, though my main critique was that the balls were slightly dry. Despite this minor issue, the dish was nevertheless impressive and showed creativity in using jackfruit as the star ingredient. 4/5 Naan could have been better for a high end place like that, as well as the roomali roti. While both breads were still solid, I expected a bit more refinement and attention to detail given the restaurant's upscale positioning. They were serviceable but not exceptional. Definitely one of the places I recommend for fancy Indian food! Aurum stands out as a go-to spot when you want to impress someone or treat yourself to innovative Indian cuisine in the South Bay. The creative menu and strong execution on most dishes make it worth a visit, and I'm already looking forward to returning to explore more of their offerings!

What an exquisite meal! Presentation is phenomenal! Turned classic Indian dishes into modern delights. I'm not a big fan of kofta but I loved the sauce they came with it . Very similar to better chicken. The mushroom and chicken was presented like a chicken pot pie! The lobster was just ok because the meat was a bit tough. The fish and cauliflower appetizers were both very crispy. The fish came with a refreshing salad. The beet and orange salad was also very refreshing. Overall a very elegant dinner.

We came in on Valentine's day when they were doing their fixed price menu and had a reservation, so we were seated without any wait. The ambiance was lively and warm. Our server was very helpful and friendly. As part of our menu we got: - baked tapioca cheese naan - This was delicious and soft and I loved the savory sauce on top. It was a great amuse bouche to start with. Appetizer: - saffron chicken escalopes, winter radish salad - Chicken was very tender and tasted great with the sauces! - tandoori malai shrimp, raspberry chutney - it was delicious, but the shrimp was slightly burnt, but a great combination with the raspberry chutney. Main Course: The main course came with amritsari kulcha (though I prefer regular naan over this), forbidden rice pulao and chole masala (which was okay). - Poached Lobster with tamarind coconut sauce - This was very smooth and rich in flavor and very creamy! - braised lamb loin laal maas - It was a bit on the spicer side and I loved this curry! The lamb was very tender to eat. Dessert: - white chocolate mousse with fudge - This was delicious! The fudge was not very sweet and combined with the sweeter white chocolate mousse, was perfect! The honeyed nuts around the fudge added a nice crunchiness. Overall, we had a great time and will be back in the future to try other things from the menu!

Had dinner here tonight Really enjoyed the food We ordered Jhalmuri and Mushroom truffle Oil paratha for appetizer. Both were really good. For main course, we ordered the Purple (eggplant crescent) and it was outstanding. Dal Makhani was ok. The garlic naan and roti and rice were all ok Server was great ambiance was good, small place and crowded

This place has a nice Indian food menu, and the service is great. The ambiance is intimate and parking lot right outside is very much first come first serve. I recommend the okra dish and the pesto paneer appetizer was alright. My boyfriend and I pretty much ordered our food based on other yelp reviews. The okra didn't disappoint! The goat cheese bread was tasty and the ghevar dessert we got was a very unique experience dish. The flavors were on point, and it's a very very light dish. Will try the kheer dessert next time. This place is chill, pretty quiet for a busy restaurant so good place to have conversations.

We visited Aurum on a Friday afternoon and we fell in love with the food and the ambiance! I am not sure why the rating is 3.8/5 as of writing this review. I am surprised reading reviews and seeing people bash this place. What we ordered? We ordered two Office Lunches comprising of the following items: 1. Appetizers: Gilroy - Chicken Kebab & Kasoori - Methi Paneer 2. Entree: Ivas - Apricot Kofta & Two Good - Mushroom Butter Chicken 3. Dessert - Heaven Can Wait - Toffee Pudding & Out of Way - Tapioca Kheer Feedback on each of these: Appetizers were delicious, you can see from the pictures that the presentation is top-notch. I can attest that the appetizers were really good and cooked to perfection. Apricot Kofta with Crispy Peas was to die for, we've never tasted any kofta gravy like this before. It was very well balanced and the kofta's killed it. Moving on to Butter Chicken, the chicken was nicely done and the gravy was good. I've tasted better gravy before but the one thing that surprised me was the hint of tamarind in the gravy. I was missing the tanginess that is usually brought about by a healthy sum of tomatoes used in the gravy. Nothing wrong with it, simply stating my experience and opinion. Desserts surprised us, I was expecting the Toffee Pudding to knock it out of the park and it kinda did but the undisputed king was the Tapioca Kheer. The amount of pistachios in it was marvelous and I have no other words to describe it. Service: We liked the service, it was snappy and they were observing us to make sure we don't sit idle, without food for too long. Since it was a three course meal, they did it properly with each course arriving on time and made us wanting more. Ambiance: It is an intimate setup, atleast that's what I feel. It was a quiet Friday afternoon, we could talk to each other without the usual noise that surrounds one at such restaurants. It's nothing crazy like Eaton or Rooh but that's what separates Aurum from them! Each place has its own vibe and story, comparing them with others just kills it. All in all, full 5 on 5 from me.

Looking for a good unique yet traditional Indian restaurant experience in Los Altos? Look no further. Ambiance is very relaxing and nice. Server's were friendly as well as very attentive. Fun unique twist on traditional Indian dishes.

Upscale Indian restaurant with pleasant and cozy ambience. Service was top notch and most dishes had a very creative presentation and interesting names. While the flavors were good they didn't live upto the high expectations set by the visually appealing food. We tried several items including Mr Potato, Lahori Fish, Patiala Lamb curry, spice girl chicken biryani, Spinach paneer lasagne and Apricot kofta. I loved the crispy and tangy Mr Potato and the creamy Apricot kofta. I found the prices a bit steep for the overall experience. It's a good spot for that once in a while special occasion but not otherwise.

There was plenty of outdoor seating, and the service was speedy. You order on a kiosk, which makes for a streamlined ordering process. The food is always solid - I love all of their thali selections. This location was much more peaceful compared to the Palo Alto location. I stopped by on a Saturday evening, and there were only a couple tables that were occupied. I will say I feel like the portion sizes here are noticeably smaller than those at the Palo Alto location. This might be because all of the orders are packed to-go, so maybe there's less space for food? For instance, the thali from the Palo Alto location includes a side salad, which was not included in my order here. The other sides (pickled salad and daal lentil), along with the entree, were also significantly smaller here. The prices are the same, so I do think the Palo Alto dishes are more worth it.

Would 100% come back for our favorites, and I'd recommend the meats here over the seafood. My favorite among the Eylan, Ettan, Copra sister restaurants! ------ FOOD: 1. [MUST TRY] TARO ROOT CHAAT (5/5) Wow wow wow. My new favorite way to enjoy chaat. Two crispy taro root chips sandwiching a medley of sauces, then covered thoughtfully in sev (short, crunchy noodles) and topped with pomegranate seeds. It's not only beautiful but also delicious. 2. RIBEYE (5/5) Had no expectations that this ribeye would be anything special, but it was surprisingly excellent quality. We absolutely loved it and the side of broccolini that came with it (super flavorful). 3. EYLAN CRISPY CHICKEN (5/5) Crispy exterior without excessive batter, super tender + juicy chicken, and great aioli to pair. The chicken comes out piping hot (be careful) with seasoning that adds the slightest kick. 4. CHILLED GREEN GRAPE CHAAS (4.75/5) Such a refreshing start to the meal. The flavors and textures were all perfect. The only reason this isn't a 5/5 is because, surprisingly, the semolina balls are slightly different sizes, so some were too big to have in one bite. 5. WOODFIRE CHICKEN SEEKH (4.5/5) Another chicken dish that comes out piping hot. Again, extremely tender chicken (texturally, maybe they marinaded the chicken in yogurt?). They kept emphasizing that a skewer only comes with 3 pieces, but each piece was actually quite large so we're glad we didn't over-order. Both the chicken and the chutney it comes with are very spicy though, so be prepared. 6. KOHLRABI & PINEAPPLE (4.5/5) The surprises kept coming. Honestly, had no idea what this was when I tried it, but the best way to describe it for others who have never had something like this before is an unbelievably flavorful Indian version of kimchi (without the fermentation). Thin slices of kohlrabi and pineapple with smokiness, sweetness, and crunch, smothered in a delicious glaze. WOW. 7. FROZEN SHRIKHAND (4.5/5) Another surprise win! The epitome of not-too-sweet. A very refreshing and easy-to-share dessert that is both light and rich at the same time. 8. KING TRUMPET MUSHROOM (4.25/5) A simple dish that reminded me of Mongolian skewered mushrooms. Nice smokey flavor paired with a flavorful seasoning sprinkled on top. 9. HISPI CABBAGE (4.25/5) Another nice vegetable dish where the cabbage is not only cooked nicely, but it's swimming in a thick curry that you can eat with your breads. 10. WOODFIRED NANTE CARROT (4.25/5) Like a sweet and savory crepe. Small but mighty, and another unexpectedly tasty item where the looks deceived you into think it was a simple item. 11. GULF SHRIMP (4/5) This was a nice dish but I found the shrimp to be slightly overcooked and slightly fishy. Not bad at all, but probably not something I'd order again. 12. EYLAN CHICKEN YAKHNI PULAO (4/5) Super interesting flavor I've never had before in a rice dish, and extremely generous with the amount of chicken used in this. Loved the crispy shallots as a garnish on top. Rice was a little dry. 13. CHARRED BLACK COD (4/5) Crispy skin and piping hot. The fish itself was not tough but it wasn't melt-in-your-mouth tender -- definitely firm. Had the slightest fishiness to it in my opinion but it's still not bad. I think the move here is Eylan's meats though. 14. FLAXSEED POEE (3.75/5) Loved that it came out freshly-baked, easy to share, and super fluffy. Very high quality but the flaxseed flavor wasn't my favorite and there was something about the avocado saag that made it taste more like a condiment than something to eat with the poee. 15. BERRY MAKHANA KHEER (2/5) This is just a personal preference. These kinds of desserts are not for me flavor-wise. Also difficult to eat since we were given flat plates and this is a liquid dessert. ------ ENVIRONMENT / AMBIANCE: * This is a truly beautiful restaurant. It's clear that they put a lot of attention into each detail and decoration, reminiscent of Copra in SF or Ettan nearby (sister restaurants). * They play music semi-loudly in the restaurant which creators a very lively atmosphere that I actually quite liked, but you can also ask them to turn down the music if it ever gets bothersome. * The restaurant is located alongside a main road in Menlo Park, but it's a bit more tucked away from the road such that it doesn't feel too exposed. ------ SERVICE: * Maybe because we were a large group, but they gifted us a plate of delicious Naankhatai (Indian Ghee Cardamom Shortbread) after dessert and those cookies were divine. We asked for the last couple to be packed up, and to our surprise, they gave us a whole new batch of cookies! Tonight I was craving a home style chicken and rice dish similar to what my mom makes . Now I know it's not possible to get that from a restaurant, but the closest to that is the Donne biryani preparation that a few places offer in the Bay Area. So I looked up Yelp and found this spot. The fact that it already had 4.9 stars was reassuring but I didn't put too many expectations on it. But what I did was call the place and make sure they'd be open by the time I made that 28 mile drive. I spoke to a person named Sagar who took my order and told me to take my time getting there and drive carefully! Husband and I got there around 9:30pm and it's a cloud kitchen setup with kitchens in the back and a point of sale kiosk and counter at the front. As instructed I called Sagar and he came up to the counter with my food, and also let me know he had added a free dessert since I drove all the way from Hayward . Husband and I got home and immediately dug in and what can I say, the flavors totally took me back to my mom's kitchen. The Donne biryani was bursting with taste, and what made it superb was that the flavors were in balance, with neither the spices nor the aromatics being overpowering in any way. The other dish, the pepper chicken was epic by itself, and should have been enjoyed with a bread of some sort, because the biryani didn't need any accompaniment. As if this meal wasn't divine enough the cherry on top was the pineapple kesari dessert that Sagar kindly added to our takeout bag. Thanks Nalapaka, for a taste of home, away from home !
