Wow everything is so flavorful and delicious! We got the butter chicken, "GOAT," "Mushies," "Mr. Potato," the cauliflower, the Dal Makhani, the Tandoori Salmon, and a Mango Lassi. Must get: The Potato Chaat, the Cauliflower, the "Mushies" and the Mango Lassi. The Potato Chaat and the cauliflower are the perfect appetizers. Really light but packed with so much flavor. The cauliflower dish here is the best cauliflower dish I've had at any restaurant. It's phenomenal. The "Mushies" is a Mushroom and peas pot pie. Its a really really rich and flavorful curry in a puff pastry and it goes perfectly together. They had an equivalent dish that was a chicken pot pie, so I wish that brought that back, but this dish is still really really good. The Mango Lassi is the best mango lassi I've had in norcal. I quickly finished mine and had to order another. It's really so delicious. The butter chicken is ofcourse also packed with flavor! You can't go wrong with this. The Kholapuri Goat Curry would've been one of my favorites but it's really hard to eat the meat since it's bone in. The curry was great and we ate that up very quickly, but there was so much bone in our dish and it was really hard picking out the meat from the bone. Wish it was boneless! Or atleast if there was more meat compared to bone. The salmon was whatever, we didn't eat much of it. It was good but underwhelming compared to the other amazing dishes. We had a reservation for 4, but they had us wait for ~15min past our reservation time. But they were pretty packed and it was loud. Solid place, great location in Los Altos downtown. Not too big of a place, but has a great atmosphere that makes for a pleasant dining experience. The restaurant strikes a nice balance between upscale and approachable, perfect for a special occasion or when you're craving elevated Indian cuisine. My friend and I read rave reviews for this "Michelin" restaurant. I've been craving Indian food, so we decided to give it a try. Service: We arrived at the restaurant around 1:50pm, they close at 2:30pm and reopens at 5:00pm for dinner. When we arrived to check in, the host immediately gave us an attitude and told us they were about to close. If that's the case, they should note that on their website that they stop service before 2:00pm and not at 2:30pm. After taking our orders, the waiters made it a mission to rush us, kept checking up on us every 10 minutes to rush us to finish and leave. Mind you, we left the restaurant shortly after 2:30pm. Before 3:00pm Food: Mushroom, Parmesan, Truffle oil. And an order of Spinach & goat cheese kulcha - They were dry. I've had better Mr. Potato - Burnt taste. Not crispy at all. The sauce made it all soggy Desert Fire - yup, it tasted like the desert. The paneer was so dry, I had to keep sipping water to swallow Spice Girl - not up to standards. I've had better. I recommend the okra dish and the pesto paneer appetizer was alright. My boyfriend and I pretty much ordered our food based on other yelp reviews. The okra didn't disappoint! We visited Aurum on a Friday afternoon and we fell in love with the food and the ambiance! I am not sure why the rating is 3.8/5 as of writing this review. I am surprised reading reviews and seeing people bash this place. What we ordered? We ordered two Office Lunches comprising of the following items: 1. Appetizers: Gilroy - Chicken Kebab & Kasoori - Methi Paneer 2. Entree: Ivas - Apricot Kofta & Two Good - Mushroom Butter Chicken 3. Dessert - Heaven Can Wait - Toffee Pudding & Out of Way - Tapioca Kheer Feedback on each of these: Appetizers were delicious, you can see from the pictures that the presentation is top-notch. I can attest that the appetizers were really good and cooked to perfection. Apricot Kofta with Crispy Peas was to die for, we've never tasted any kofta gravy like this before. It was very well balanced and the kofta's killed it. Moving on to Butter Chicken, the chicken was nicely done and the gravy was good. I've tasted better gravy before but the one thing that surprised me was the hint of tamarind in the gravy. I was missing the tanginess that is usually brought about by a healthy sum of tomatoes used in the gravy. Nothing wrong with it, simply stating my experience and opinion. Desserts surprised us, I was expecting the Toffee Pudding to knock it out of the park and it kinda did but the undisputed king was the Tapioca Kheer. The amount of pistachios in it was marvelous and I have no other words to describe it. Service: We liked the service, it was snappy and they were observing us to make sure we don't sit idle, without food for too long. Since it was a three course meal, they did it properly with each course arriving on time and made us wanting more. Ambiance: It is an intimate setup, atleast that's what I feel. It was a quiet Friday afternoon, we could talk to each other without the usual noise that surrounds one at such restaurants. I think this restaurant deserves 1 Michelin star. It's that good. I had the mattar paneer and my wife had the malai kofta. The service was outstanding. I had a spicy cocktail but in retrospect wish I had gotten a glass of Riesling. The dishes were flavorful and perfectly balanced. In fact, I would not say they were spicy. It might have been some of the best Indian food we've ever had. We ate outside and it was the perfect weather for people watching. We'll be back. Los Altos' only Michelin rated restaurant and its celebrity chef Manish Tyagi who did Beat Bobby Flay are a hidden gem in the peninsula gourmet Indian food scene. It has become one of my go to places for a business lunch or dinner with friends. Some of my favorites in appetizers - Mr Potato, a deliciously fresh take on potato chaat, Beet and Citrus salad and dahi ke kabab. The "Two Good" mushroom butter chicken is the best butter chicken I have tasted anywhere and the spinach paneer lasagna is surprisingly delicious - definitely not pasta! The Patiala Lamb curry is also very well done. Highly recommend a vist! read more

The pastry for the chicken and mushroom was lacking in taste but the curry was delicious. I liked the presentation of the potatoes but the potato was a bit tough with a little crisp. The sauces and chaat that came under it and drizzled across the top was delicious. The not lasagna was a good texture and had a great flavor. Finally planned to dine in after my good experience with the take out. Went here for my wife's birthday. The staff here is friendly. The menu here keeps changing, so they even helped us choose amongst the new options. Now for the food: Dahi ke kabab - Very tender and flavorful. Crunchy on the outside. Chicken pepper fry - Had a nice flavor of pepper and curry leaves. Apricot kofta - This was very delicious. The curry was creamy and the kofta very soft. Liked the fried lotus root chips as well. Chicken Biryani - I tried the Biryani here last time as well, however this time it was a different variant. It was bit spicy and the rice was perfectly cooked with a good flavor of spices (specially saffron). Kulfi - I believe it was jaggery and fig. Very unique taste. The overall experience was good. Came here last night to celebrate a friend's birthday. We have a few restrictions among our friends, gluten free, vegetarian, and pescatarian. We were able to order quite number of dishes to satisfy all the requirements that we had. Service was great and professional. Presentation is really awesome to the point that I forgot to take pictures! Food taste great! A few Indian friends informed me that the taste is so so and it is over price, but I find that to be not true. I enjoyed the food and the prices I think is quite reasonable in the Bay Area. Stopped by for lunch earlier today and was very impressed! The food tasted amazing and the ambience wasn't bas either. I tried their lunch special which was worth the $30 price - it included an appetizer, an entree with bread and rice as well as dessert. The naan was very soft and fresh - which is rare in the bay. Paneer tikka was soft and flavorful. Apricot kofta was perfect - the gravy did not have too much butter or cream - which is actually a good thing. For dessert, I liked the gulab jamun better than kheer. Kheer had an almond flavor in the cream which I personally am not a fan of. Service was good. This was our second time trying out Aurum and twice we had a good experience. Since the weather was nice on both occasions we always sat outside. The restaurant is in a cozy albeit busy neighborhood which does come with random pedestrians walking by your table and staring at your plate. Food was very tasty. They really want to emphasize they are modern and besides funny names for their dishes, this also translates into their creativity. They take the traditional Indian dishes and give it a twist, sometimes quite literally like the Mr Potato. Their paneer lasagna is definitely a treat. They offer a lot of good drinks as well. If you get around to doing desert, the chocoholic is delicious. Table service is smooth and attentive. My only feedback really is that the host was somewhat abrasive. When we came in and mentioned we had a reservation at 7pm (we were 5 minutes early), the host misunderstood and thought we said for 7. They looked very confused and answered they did not have one for 7 people. We explained and the reaction was slightly passive aggressive indicating we made a mistake whilst it was the other way around. I can't quite remember our interaction the first visit but when I noticed it was the same person I remembered feeling that the host was not the most cordial. read more

Aurum never disappoints. My friend and I were craving Indian food (well, maybe not so much for my friend) and we decided to dine in at Aurum mid week. We were swiftly seated and found ourselves in the middle of what looked like a heavy round of dating scene at the tables around us. Got started with a mocktail given the driving needs! And trust me, it didn't feel like a compromise. (Thanks, Aurum). The drink was well done with a balance of flavors and spice, sans the alcohol. 8/10 The potato crisps, aka Mr Potato, was well done. If you're not a fan of crispy potato wafers, you might want to skip this. The potato skewer had a nice base of chaat ragda (chick pea kinda thing, I guess). I'd give this a 6/10. For entree, we ordered garlic naan and apricot kofta. Both were a 10/10. Truly. We wrapped it up with a dessert. Chocoholic which is basically chocolate rasmalai. But hey, don't let the rasmalai part fool you, like it it for my friend. The dessert is almost like a chocolate mousse with the goodness in notes from rasmalai.
