It is not easy to be an ethnic restaurant that has to cater to an international palate, but Little Blue Door somehow manages to deliver standout dishes that feel accessible without losing their Malayali soul. Their fava bean vada pav and biryani are beautifully crafted, with a subtle blend of spices. The tea is also very well done. Found this place within the bustling state street market in Los Altos downtown. Orderd Rotisserie Cauliflower, chicken Briyani, And Andhra style chicken curry. I got the cashew roasted cauliflower steak here on Saturday as I didn't want something too heavy and I generally love cauliflower, but it had a very off-putting taste to it. My wife and I went as usual. We had a great experience . The craft cocktails and the Mixology experience never disappoint a recommend the trivia nights or the wine pairing tasting and the whiskey and bourbon tastings when they have them. The flavor of the sauce was too tomato-y for my taste and the chicken wasn't warm even though it was the second order of the day. The pro of this meal was hands down the naan. What showed up felt like two child-size kebabs cut in half to look like four, with a few onions, a little dal, and naan that tasted more like pita than naan. What made it especially disappointing is that this place is associated with ETAN in Palo Alto, so I expected much higher quality and much tastier food. The service was rude here; however, that was just one person on my most recent visit. In the past, it was much more courteous. This is the no-frills version of Ettan in Palo Alto. Same ownership. Ettan is open at night, and Little Blue Door is open all day (without service) in a food court. It's alright to grab a quick bite. The menu isn't as amazing as Ettan's. We came by on a Sunday afternoon and there was no wait to order. Staff was friendly at the front counter and worked efficiently, they had my order packaged and ready to go in what felt like 5 minutes. I was impressed. But what wowed me even more was the tastes of the food. The butter chicken with plain naan had so much flavor, a nice spiciness (borderline too spicy for me, but so good), and a decent amount of delicious tender chicken inside, though the chicken pieces were quite large, I had to cut them up with a knife to make it easier to eat. The egg puff was filled with a hard boiled egg and Indian spices, wrapped inside a flaky buttery crust, it was yummy too. Seating was easy to find inside State Street Market, and parking was free and convenient, just around the corner on the other side of the building. This sister restaurant of the famous Ettan is situated in a corner at the state street market in Los Altos. It's a self service station. You grab in the food and sit in the common tables to soak in the ambience of the market. Coming to the food, we got paneer makhani and chicken Tikka wrap. The chicken Tikka wrap was so so and was definitely not worth the price. It lacked any depth in flavor. Paneer makhani was pretty good on the other hand. Overall, I wouldn't make a trip exclusively to come here. But if I happen to be in the market, I wouldn't mind trying other items on the menu. read more

Cool atmosphere in a food hall. Easy to order and fairly quick service. The Cashew Cauliflower."Steak" did have excellent flavor but I had to knock some stars off because it wasn't what was advertised described or expected. And for what you get, pretty pricey. First of all, I couldn't discern the cashews on mine. Due to the dish name I would've expected discernible cashew pieces and/or flavor. Pretty sure there were some slivered almonds. Secondly, and more importantly, advertised as a "steak", I did expect to see a slab of sliced cauliflower but instead I got three florets of roasted, battered cauliflower. Why call it a "steak"? And 3 florets of cauliflower as a main dish for $20? Pretty steep IMO. This could have been a 4-star since the flavor was good (kudos to the sauces on the cauliflower) and the sides of coconut rice and curry were good, but I have a pet peeve about restaurants not describing their food accurately. Little Blue Door at State Street Market offers a vibrant exploration of Indian street food. While the restaurant itself is fairly new (est. 2021), the concept is rooted in the rich culinary traditions of the Indian subcontinent. Blue Little Door is a "Cal-Indian comfort street food" eatery that is owned by the same folks (chef Srijith Gopinathan and Ayesha Thapar), who together opened Palo Alto's Ettan in 2020. When I realized that, I decided to give this place a try because Ettan is one of my favorite Indian restaurants in the Bay area. Obviously, I had high expectations, and this place delivered, albeit I only tried one item from their menu. While everything on the menu looked tempting, I opted for the pani puri. For $14, you get 8 pieces of delicate puffed spheres with mint broth. The broth and the mix of potatoes and chickpea mash is served separately, so you'll have to add them to the "puri" (puffed sphere) yourself. The mix already comes topped with a tamarind chutney, so don't forget to mix it before you add it to the puri. The pani puri perfectly captured the essence of what street food should be: fun, flavorful, and ideal for sharing. The potatoes and chickpea mash could have been more flavorful, but it was still pretty good. Little Blue Door isn't reinventing the wheel, but they are definitely executing these classic dishes with fresh ingredients and a clear love for the cuisine. read more

My boyfriend and I came to State Street Market on Friday night, and Little Door caught our eye since it was part of Ettan in Palo Alto. There was only one person in front of us, and the food came out literally within minutes. Parking is street and free in nearby lots. We ordered the butter chicken with garlic naan ($19). Prices are definitely higher than usual, especially considering being in a food court. We were pleasantly surprised and really enjoyed the curry. The base is more tomatoey than creamy, flavorful, and very tasty. I did wish there was a spicy option to give it a kick. There were only 5 chunks of chicken, but it was very tender. Garlic naan was really just naan with garlic oil or butter spooned on top; there was no garlic baked inside. Naan was not very authentic as it wasn't thin or flat; it resembled more of a pita bread. However, it was super fluffy and a great vessel to absorb the curry. The fryums were such a fun addition and provided a crunch to the entire dish. Overall, this is a pretty solid American Indian stall. Although the menu is limited and price is a little high, the food is delicious.
