Got my upper wisdom teeth out 2 weeks ago and the whole process has been great! I was really anxious going in but all of these other reviews made me feel better going into the appointment and the team was great! They even sprayed my arm with a cooling agent so I couldn't really feel them administering the IV for my sedation if you're concerned about that part at all. Can't remember the actual removal process either and overall the pain wasn't actually that bad (maybe like 5/10) I just kept to the pain med schedule they recommended for the first 3 days post op and then switched to tylenol and still used the strong ibuprofen. Just follow the instructions they give you and you should be golden. Honestly the worst thing has been not being able to eat like a normal person... I miss chips! They also have an emergency line you can call after hours (I didn't have to use but good to know I could call). Absolutely would recommend this office and I'm definitely coming back if I need any other dental work here. Can y'all fill my cavities too?! read more

Trust your gut. If you get butchered by an oral surgery once, don't let your dentist talk you going back there again. My first experience with this place was with Dr Najy K Zarroug, and from the start it was off. Last time I had any dental work done was done by my regular dentist (he's since moved to San Antonio) and he did it all in-house. The cleaning, root canal, cavity, tooth extraction and crown. This time around, my current main dentist cleaned my teeth and sent me to a root canal doc who also prepared a crown, then I went back to my regular dentist to put on the crown, I then sent to an oral surgeon who charged for a pretreatment meeting followed by the day he took two teeth out. Badly. Upfront I let them know I'm terrified by the dentist. The root canal doc prior to seeing him and my former dentist all have enough shots that I stay pain free but from the start Dr. Zarroug wasn't having it. He kept going repeatedly without providing more pain relief, my demeanor in the chair (scared and begging) was upsetting him at one point angerly saying 'I should have had you put to sleep for this!' Which didn't help calm me down. He eventually gave me a few more shots but there wasn't much at that point left. We left and about two hours later I was out of the gauze he'd sent me home with in case of bleeding from the wound. At this point the bottom part of my jaw was literally just full of blood and literally overflowing onto my face. Driving back in the car the smell of raw fresh blood was thick in the air. I got back and pretty hysterically demanded help from anyone but him, I was forced to deal with him again as he was the only doctor there, and he gave some excuse about only using 1 stitch to hold the spot where two back teeth had been in order to get me out of the chair faster as I was clearly upset. He sort of apologized while blaming me for my attitude and for general squirming. He eventually, with the help of another employee, gave me more pain management shots and sewed in 4 more stitches and I left, swearing never to return. I swore I'd do the two teeth left on the other side somewhere else but my main dentist shared that a member of his family had a horrible experience with Dr Zarroug and asked me to use the other surgeon there whom his family member liked Dr Andrea Quarroni. I gave in as I was in a place where I had to do something because the situation had gotten so bad so I went back. The new doctor was super kind and gentle and we set it up. I told him about my poor experience prior focusing on the bleeding and my fear of dentists. I trusted him very much We decided to knock me out which was the right choice and I still stand by that, but afterwards I was back at home it began again. Less than 2 hours later my mouth was full. It seems the doctor that day did one thread into 3 stitches (I don't get it either) but again two hours later when I was told it would have bleeding it's again pouring blood and I'm now on the phone with the after hours regarding my bleeding which won't stop trying all the tricks he suggested (tea bags on the wound, doubling my gauze and keeping it on for 30 mins and repeating that for 30 more mins after) He offered to see me tonight in his office 30 mins away sharing he'd had other incidents involving this clinic prior. I'm going to try to keep gauze on it (it becomes saturated within 15 mins) and return to another dentist tomorrow. While Dr Quaroni was much kinder and such I feel he dropped the ball with my stitches. He was told of my bleeding issues and still there's another bleeding issue. This place is VERY pay us now, hardcore when it comes to getting paid so I'd expect the pre-paid services to be quality, maybe it's because they know if they billed people they'd never get paid. On that same topic of them wanting to be paid so badly but who pays for my pain and suffering as blood runs literally from my mouth 12 hours later, are they gonna pay for my gas if I have to drive 30 minutes in the middle of the night... Avoid this place especially the location on 38th at all costs! Between my two trips there, and now the stories from my own dentist and the on call dentist it seems like you'll be avoiding a regrettable decision! read more

So disappointed with the communication with this office. I have spoken with a few people now at the office, given all of our insurance information to them. We arrived at the appointment and were informed we were out of network. So that was disappointing. Also, I had told the lady scheduling it my daughter would be out of town for over a month and needed a certain minor procedure done. She said, well lets get her in to do that. Never once was I told the appointment was only for a consultation, I assumed it was the procedure the dentist referred us to. Just so much miscommunication. read more

I am really disappointed with this office.I am giving 2 stars because Dr. Popp was a great doctor, but unfortunately due the front office is just awful. They will definitely mess up your billing and act like they aren't in control of what happens. I paid my service off in full to avoid this issue based of previous reviews but due to the front office staff mistake/carelessness (TWICE) it caused major billing issues. Which caused me to just finally get a refund from the billing department (yes, they are different). It was truly a frustrating process because of them. They(front staff) do not make notes on your account for the doctor nor the billing department, they give you an invoice amount with "everything" on there and then still say you owe them more money even though balance is paid in full. I really hope Dr. Popp finds another facility. read more

The office staff is absolutely horrific! They are the most unorganized, unprofessional group I have encountered. There was mass confusion with my first appointment, causing me to miss a day of work. They offered to reschedule me to an alternate location with no anesthetic! I said no. I finally had the procedure and Dr.Kearn and his staff were fine. Went back in for the follow up that was scheduled weeks in advance by the doctor only for them to say "why are you here? The doctor is in surgery. It's going to be at least an hour." Then why schedule me??? They are in DESPERATE need of an office manager and a whole new crew. read more

I've been coming here for over 10 years. Initially to get my wisdom teeth removed and during the pandemic a tooth extraction and an implant. I just recently got my tooth extraction and will probably get an implant to replace it. Dr. Weil is my go to. He's an excellent dental surgeon and is very quick and efficient. All my dental surgeries have been amazing and without any complications. Even the removal of multiple wisdom teeth which takes longer to recover only took the week. After the consultation your given, a what to expect document and prescription that you can fill before your surgery date. I've opted for nitrous and local anesthesia for some of my surgeries. The most recent I just did local. I know some people just want to be knocked out during these types of procedures and they do offer that too. Though you do need someone to take you home afterwards. For implants you'll get a treatment plan after the tooth extraction when they do a check up 8 weeks after. I prefer this place over other places because many places will require 50% down before treatment begins and will process insurance later. Which if you have dental insurance could be more than what you will have to pay out of pocket especially for more costly procedures like implants. As for implants, this is not the quick turn around type of implant. For mine it took many months before the crown could be put on (which is done through your dentist not the oral surgeon) and they do make sure that there's enough bone and healing to support the implant before removing the cover of the implant. it is done right. read more

A Warning to all who would use Austin Oral Surgery: In October 2023, I underwent a skin graft procedure from the roof of my mouth to the lower left gum with Dr. Travis W. Kern, DDS, MD at Austin Oral Surgery in Austin, TX, in preparation for two dental implants. I was 76 years old at the time. The procedure lasted more than twice as long as planned (3 hours under general anesthesia in his office, without an anesthesiologist or standard Deep Vein Thombosis prevention protocols like compression wraps). Nine days later, I developed severe swelling in my right leg. I was diagnosed with three blood clots (DVT) -- above, below, and behind the knee. I was hospitalized, put on blood thinners, and referred to a hematologist and vascular surgeon. All other risk factors were ruled out. My hematologist concluded the clots were a direct result of the surgery. I now (20 months later) live with permanent vein damage (Post Thrombotic Syndrome). My mobility is severely limited and my quality of life has deteriorated. When I obtained the surgical report from Dr. Kern 5 months later, I was shocked to find that it described the procedure as "uneventful." He made no mention of the extended time, complications, or excessive bleeding that he admitted to me during a follow-up visit -- with his nurse present. In my opinion, this omission was deliberate and does not meet the standards of care patients deserve. I filed a formal complaint with the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners. After nearly a year-long investigation, the Board required Dr. Kern to take continuing education courses in Risk Management, Sedation of Medically Compromised Patients, and Record Keeping -- but imposed no public disciplinary action. He continues to practice without a public record of this case. I am sharing my story to help others make informed decisions. This was my personal experience and reflects my sincere opinion based on medical records and interactions with multiple physicians. read more

I had a good surgeon and my results are fine but the billing and front office are terrible. They never answer the phone, the line is busy, and they won't call back. After having my surgery in October 2024 that has been fully paid, they charged me $1,278.65 randomly today (march 31,2025) and immediately refunded the money. Still won't answer the phone or call me back as to why they still have my card information on file and why they just charged me. They need a completely new administration team. read more

We cannot say enough good things about Dr. Kern and everyone at AUSTIN Oral surgery. My son was extremely anxious about having an IV for the first time . Dr. Kern gave him an anxiety prescription and use lidocaine spray to numb his arm. I was shocked at how calm and unbothered my son was. He had all four wisdom teeth removed without any problem. Dr. Kern has a calming presence anyway & he made my son feel at ease. They also did a great job of keeping me apprised of how everything was going, while I was in the waiting room. The entire procedure lasted less than an hour Everyone in the recovery area was extremely kind and helpful. My son doesn't even remember anything from getting the IV thru the car ride home. Dr. Kern even called to check on him and make sure he was recovering well the next day. The post-procedure prescriptions they used seem to do great for managing his pain, as well. Overall, I just can't recommend Dr. Kern & the good folks at Austin Oral Surgery enough! We will definitely be using them again when my daughter has hers removed, as well as any future oral surgery needs. read more

OH MY GOODNESS! This place was AMAZING! I recently had to have all my wisdom teeth removed due to being impacted and infected. Very professional, and helpful! The front desk, phones, nurses, and Dr. Kern, all top notch service! My consult, pre-op, op, and post-op went very smoothly! They prove how passionate and professional they are through their work! I have no complaints, and 100% recommend! TIP: Unfortunately, I did get dry socket (my fault) they were able to fit me in for an appointment asap, and relieved my pain with dry packing! (Recommend dry packing to anyone if they are experiencing dry socket because pain meds do not help!) read more

If you're going to get some dental/oral surgery work done. The whole staff was wonderful. The building itself is super clean and shiny beautiful. (on the inside) Dr. Travis Kern was the one doing my extraction. A difficult extraction so they had to knock me out. So I don't know much about what happened, just the first and last 20 minutes. The first 20 was a bit nerve wracking with the monitors beeping and being strapped down by my head with the oxygen mask thing, but they eventually turned the nitrous on, put in the intravenous anesthesia, I said "here we go" and I was out. Maybe 45 minutes later I woke up. Felt like nothing happened. Aside from the gauze in my mouth. Not much pain after, but I slept on and off for the rest of day. Good job you guys! I don't want to say I'll be back, but looking at the current condition of my dental needs, I might be. read more

I went to many oral surgeons for a meet and greet, because I have anxiety over dental work. I also needed to compare costs. I sent my x-rays etc, ahead of time. I spent only 10 minutes meeting the Dr. and they charged me $130 for the visit. NO other offices charged me to meet the Dr and get an estimate. They also never made me aware that there would be a charge. I disputed it and did not here back. When I got back from traveling there was a collection agency letter. Additionally, the Dr. questioned me over why I would have anxiety around the procedure, as if this was not normal.(My best friend is a dentist and I know for sure people have anxiety over detal work- nit just me! ) I think this is an unethical and awful business practice and I went elsewhere for my implant treatment. read more

Follow up to my review on 10/11/22. Had to call to schedule a follow-up for lingering pain from surgery. They redeemed themselves from the initial call, being seen quickly, and follow-up plan if the pain didn't go away soon. Both the staff, nurse, and doctor were friendly, helpful, and supportive. They must have read my bad review because they really stepped it up. The doctor took his time and offered helpful tips for pain management though their was a full house in the waiting room. They gave me a clove pack while there to help numb the pain; it really helped. If you have lingering pain, don't hesitate to call and advocate yourself. Get seen to rule out infection or dry socket, and get more support for pain management. I would recommend this place. read more

i had posted this on google as well but i am literally writing this review less than 12 hours after all having four of my wisdom teeth removed. this is one of the best healthcare experiences i've ever had!! every interaction i have had with the staff of this location has been phenomenal. everyone is incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and very clearly have the patient's comfort as their highest priority. the front desk staff is how i knew i would be in good hands from the start! they even made billing easy and enjoyable!! after the tech wheeled me out to the car, apparently i very loudly requested that my boyfriend tell her i love her....yeah it was that great of an experience. dr. kern even called me a few hours ago to check in on how i was doing! i was happily passed out but his voicemail was so kind and informative. i feel great honestly. a little tired and a little bloody but not very much pain at all for someone with 4 new holes in their mouth! they gave very clear instructions on after-care so i fully believe i will have a speedy recovery :) i highly recommend this specific office of AOMS to anyone who is looking to get their wisdom teeth removed and especially to anyone who is anxious about surgery or dental work!!! read more

I was terrified of getting my wisdom teeth out - so much so that I put this off for 7 years since my first referral at 18. But my dentist told me that they were threatening damage to my second molars, and I finally bit the bullet got them out yesterday. All four full bony impacted. I wanted to wait until after my follow up to write this, but Dr. Kern and the staff have been so incredible since my consultation, that I wanted to share my story for anyone who might be afraid to get this done. I'll include a follow-up after my follow-up if anything changes. At my consultation, I was nervous and had so many questions. They took the time to honestly answer my fears on the risks and I did not once feel ashamed for waiting so long like I have at so many dentist appointments previously. I had impatient, "suck it up" type dentists as a kid who didn't believe in any kind of sedation, so I had a lot of work done under just local and it just gave me a deep fear of any kind of dentistry. AOMS, on the other hand, put my comfort and recovery as a priority. They are calm, capable, and very confident in a way that's not off-putting but rather reassuring. You also can't beat their front desk staff. Whitney helped me through so many of my insurance questions while I went back and forth on if I wanted the deep (recommended by Dr.) or moderate (which was less out of pocket) sedation. I ended up realizing the deep would calm me down more and went with that. The morning of the surgery, I took a pill I believe they gave me for anxiety along with the instructed painkillers and antibiotics. I was still pretty nervous and when I got to the back, the woman who was prepping me noticed (I wish I'd gotten her name so I could thank her too). She offered Nitrous to take the edge off and I did it. What. a. difference. In minutes my blood pressure settled out and I was cracking jokes to my boyfriend, who had some back with me to hold my hand during the IV part. I told Dr. Kern once he came in to put the IV that "man, this is good stuff" after a nurse mentioned that the IV was in and the hard part was over. I think he laughed and said "well, you're about the get the BEST stuff." I might've laughed after that, but I'm not sure. I was out. No feeling drowsy and drifting off (I was nervous about the feeling of losing consciousness). It was lights on, lights off, and next thing I knew, I was being walked to the recovery room with my mouth full of gauze. I didn't even noticed until I sat down that the IV had been taken out. The nurse showed my boyfriend how to replace my gauze and after I started to wake up a little more, they wheeled me out to the car. I've taken the pain meds as prescribed and feel MUCH better than I thought I would. I slept off the anesthesia most of the afternoon yesterday, but got up today feeling pretty good. Dr. Kern even took the time to call last night and make sure I was doing okay. I am so, so blown away at how easy this recovery has been and am very thankful for AOMS and their attention to their patients. There's a reason for all the glowing reviews - I only wish they had a regular dentistry for me to go for cleanings, because they have incredible bedside manner :) If you're nervous about getting those pesky wisdom teeth out, look no further. I was called back, set up on nitrous and just sort of hanging out, getting high until the Dr. came in. The assistant was "monitoring" my blood pressure and well being but was actually scrolling through social media on her phone. --This is my number one pet peeve in a place of business. I don't think cell phones have any place in a medical setting. I called her out for it, she got very defensive and apologized for "offending me". To clarify, I was not offended. I feel this behavior is wildly unprofessional and I felt concerned for my safety and well being as a result. Once I was knocked out though, all was well! I got an appointment within 10 days of calling, received great instructions beforehand, and felt very welcomed in their office. The staff checked that I was comfortable and it was literally painless! I fist-bumped the doctor for a job well done. They even let me keep my tooth as my kids insisted I put it under my pillow for the tooth fairy. I was referred here by my general dentist who I adore, AOMS...not so much. It took me a while to get an appointment. I initially started with e-mail correspondence...then they stopped responding so I finally just called and made the date for a wisdom tooth extraction consult. When I was speaking to the scheduler she assured me that the initial is just 20 mins so I could get this done in my lunch break no problem. So I arrived at 11, 15 mins before my scheduled appt time. Parked, checked in, hang out for about 10 mins and then get taken back for x-ray (didn't need one as they had my ones forwarded from the referring dentist....this bothers me because i don't like having to get excess x-rays even if i don't have to pay for them). Blood pressure taken, general allergy questions answered and all is well. Now to wait for the Doc. 40 mins later Dr. Kern came in apologized for the tardiness. I was preparing to leave as I had to get back to the office. He quickly went over my x-rays and I spoke up when I didn't agree with what teeth he was pointing to. I was told I had three wisdom teeth that needed to be removed. One of the teeth is not a wisdom tooth, it is a second molar.....albeit a crooked one but not a third molar. However you don't argue with a dentist in their home environment with two nurses also in the room. Now the thing that really weirded me out was that I was given pre-op and post-op prescriptions even though I did not agree to any surgery or sign anything. I have NEVER had a doctor give me a narcotic prescription for services yet to be agreed too or even rendered. I then met with the billing department which was normal as usual. Here is an estimate...I need a formal quote I asked for this on the phone. Sorry it'll be 30 days before that comes through..... Personally this is not my kind of place. While everyone was courteous, something about an office just throwing out prescriptions and a doctor brushing over patient questions/concerns aren't my thing. On the plus side I now have a prescription for Valium and hydrocodone. :/ read more

Like the other Yelper, I went to Dr. Robert L. White too for teeth extraction. Dr White has over many years of experience, from consultation to the actual day of surgery he made me feel calm and easy. The staffs are excellent and the billing lady Pauly was very easy to work with. I had to get my teeth pulled prior to my next orthodontist appointment and with Dr White going on vacation soon, they were able to squeeze me in. I had some trouble getting my Ortho office to send them the x-ray but Pauly took care of it. She told me to take a new x-ray and they will make sure not to charge me for it. I've had an excellent experience with AOM over the last few weeks. It took me a few weeks to get in for my initial consultation, and the waiting period for that had me weary. Since then, however, it has been smooth sailing...which is a lot to say for the wisdom teeth removal process! I was, of course, nervous about getting my teeth pulled. At my consultation, the nurse Sheree (more about her later!) was very sweet, and Dr. Kern did a great job explaining why I needed my teeth removed - and what the surgery would be like. It was very reassuring. Fast forward to this past Tuesday. The few days beforehand, I had convinced myself that Tuesday was Doomsday - perhaps a bit dramatic, but this is coming from someone who has never been put under before! Anyway, Dr. Kern prescribed me a pill to take an hour beforehand that was a godsend. I felt so relaxed that I didn't even have time that morning to worry. One of the best parts was that I didn't have to wait at ALL to go back to the room - it's all blurry, but it really felt like within 7-8 minutes of arriving at the office, I was asleep. The next few hours were a blur. Sheree was amazing, yet again...so much so that I apparently asked my boyfriend on the way home if we could adopt her as my new grandmother (although I do love the one I already have). I barely remember seeing Dr. Kern, but at 8PM that night, he was kind enough to call me personally and ask how I was doing. It was really reassuring to hear from him directly, as if I was a real person, and not just another patient who was terrified of getting her teeth yanked out of her mouth. That was 3 days ago, and things seem to be healing fabulously so far. I have my post-op next week, and I was going to wait to write until after that...but I have a feeling that nurse Sheree and Dr. Kern will be just as sweet as they have been so far. So yeah, from $ spent to the receptionists to their bedside manner, AOM has been great. I'm (almost) disappointed that I won't be going to see them on a regular basis. read more

I came to see Dr. Kern after being referred here by my general dentist for a dental implant. I've been here three times, first for the consult, than I had the first part of the procedure done for my implant, and I just recently went back, which was supposed to be to have the implant put in. But, after Dr. Kern took a look, it hadn't healed enough, so I'll be going back in October, to hopefully finish it then. I don't have any complaints, I'm glad that he thoroughly inspected the area, and was okay with making the call to wait another 6 months. Yes, it's annoying for me to drag this procedure out even longer, but if it's not healed it's not healed, I definitely wouldn't want him to just do the procedure anyways, and hope for the best. Dr. Kern and his staff are awesome. The women at the front desk were all great, and his assisting staff were nice too. Dr. Kern also goes out of his way to make sure you don't feel any pain, or as little as possible. I'm not the type to complain during a procedure, I guess I've felt that if someone is cutting your mouth open you're gonna feel some pain at some point, but many times he's asked if I was feeling any pain, and if so he took care of that. And after both of my procedures, Dr. Kern called me later that night to see how everything was feeling, which I really appreciated. I don't give 5 stars often, but there's nothing I can think to change about the place........except the code to get into the restrooms in the building. It has never changed, but I'm pretty sure I have to ask for it every single time I'm there, lol, but that's the building, not the office's fault. read more

Dr. Ding was very descriptive of how the wisdom teeth procedure was going to go. I asked a lot of questions. Jamie and Ding were very excited to answer them and break it down for me to understand. I'm terrified of needles and he got the iv in really quick. I'm healing right now and feel very comfortable. Hopefully I wont need any oral surgery in the future, but I'll definitely come back if I need one :) read more

I was worried I wouldn't be able to get an appointment because it was the Monday before Christmas. Dr. Kearn and his staff were able to work me in to be seen the same day! I didn't know what to expect as I had not had any teeth extracted before. The office staff, dental assistants, and Dr. Kearn were all patient, kind, and thorough in answering my questions. After my proceedure, I woke up and was surprised to have little to no pain. My husband took me home and was well prepared to care for me by Dr. Kearn and his staff. I have had the worst experiences of dentists in the past. I went to two different dentists and it was as bad as it gets. Here, I liked the professionalism of the staff from front desk to Dr Weil. Dr. Weil Is probably the best in the city. He's valedictorian of his dental school class. He's quick, effective, caring, and does very very good work. I had a gum graft done, and it went very smoothly. I'm almost completely healed up eight Asian. I would strongly recommend him to anyone. The office staff was great, but I can't say that they rose to the same level of excellence as the doctor. Still, very good. read more
