Needed to get a Smog Check from a Star Certified location to renew my registration. I visited on a Saturday afternoon, which happened to be a bit busy considering there were three cars in front of me and two individuals working. I did not have an appointment but I decided to go as a walk-in since I had time. I went in thinking I was going to have to wait an hour or so but I believe I was in and out in 30 mins, even with the three cars ahead of me. The process was quick and if you check in on yelp, you get a discount. The overall price was very affordable and cheaper than other locations I had researched. Don't bother if you have an OBD2 accessory. They WILL fail you if you have anything plugged into the OBD2 port under your dash. You would think a professional would be able to tell an illegal tuning accessory from a data connection to display sensor info on the aftermarket stereo head unit but apparently these guys have their heads up their tailpipes. read more

I brought my 1996 Jeep in for its biennial smog check, like I have for years now. The technician, Juan Torres (ID # E0635415) summoned me out to the vehicle. He told me he thought the catalytic converter was altered. I said "Yes, because it was replaced by the dealer 6 or 7 years ago due to a recall." (As it turns out, it was 11 years ago! How did it get past these wannabe mechanics all these years?) He said the "dealer wouldn't have done that" and said it appeared that I took it to a "chop shop". A "chop shop"?!? Hey Chrysler mechanics, Juan Torres from the Anaheim Auto Chek says your work looks like a "chop shop". Then he asked if I had the paperwork on me to prove this. I asked him if he had 7 year old paperwork in HIS pocket! And why should I, since I've passed every 2 years since then. He said something about other shops aren't as reputable as this one. I said "I've been coming HERE for years! Then he says (I kid you not), "Well, we have a lot of turn around here." Wow, this clown should be their spokesman! I asked him if the car passed the numbers. He evaded my question, so I asked again: DID I PASS THE NUMBERS? He reluctantly said "Well, yes, but I'm failing you on the visual inspection." But not just a failed visual. He put into the record the word "TAMPERED". So now my car is registered with the DMV as being "tampered". I had to take time off of work to go to a state sanctioned referee station, where guess what, IT PASSED! I will be filing a formal complaint against Auto Chek, and will take legal action to get the record cleared of this. I will NEVER use the services of this terrible company again! read more

I came here to get the smog taken care of on my 2001 Ford F250. Technician was rude and turned me away due to a "cut" catalytic converter. It was about 45 minutes until they closed so maybe he wanted to go home early?! Told me he did me a "favor" by not running my info through the system. Ridiculous! I bought this from a dealership 3 years ago, never made any alterations, and have never had any problems. Took it to a different place down the street in Orange and passed with no issues at all! This is the absolute worst smog place ever...avoid at all costs. The owner and/or techs have no idea what they are doing. They failed my vehicle and sent me to the referee who then told me everything was done to California compliance. I had my work done by a reputable shop who told me this smog place fails all kinds of people even though their cars are 100% compliant with California laws. Had a smog check done here on a Saturday last month. Smack dab on the corner of Orangethorpe & State College. It's a convenient location. They seem to get a lot of business. A few cars were being serviced before us. The billing associate was really welcoming and courteous. Checked in on Yelp to receive the 20% discount which equalled $10. off of a $59.95 Smog Test Fee + the $8.25 Certificate of Compliance Fee. The smog check techs were pretty fast yet thorough. In total, we probably waited about 15 minutes to complete the process. The inside lobby area was clean and the workers here were very focused considering it was a weekend morning. Juan did my smog check and informed me that he wouldn't pass my car because of my OBD2 sensor. He said, "well since I don't know what it is, I will fail your vehicle." I told him that my car has had that since I purchased it and I've done a smog check on my car in the past and they passed my car no problem. He told me he wouldn't pass it. I called my husband to speak with Juan, since my husband worked for a Cadillac service shop. My husband asked him if they fail cars with OBD2 accessories on it and he said yes because it's not in compliance with CA laws, which is a LIE!!! If you look far enough down in the reviews, you'll see that people who drive a Jeep, Subaru or LEGALLY modified car, will all have 1 star reviews saying that this place would not pass their cars for smog checks. Tech comes into the waiting room and tells me my cat converter has been welded and is illegal. This car, a 2005 Explorer, has never been touched. This Review is in regards to a registration renewal. My registration had been suspend for no proof of insurance. The dmv will then make you pay a $14.00 re-instatement fee on top of your renewal once you show that you have proof of insurance, which I did. Anyways they denied my service because of that and said i would have to go into the dmv personally and then come back but it would also take 3-5 days to clear? Complete LIE!! Can getting a smog check ever be enjoyable? Probably not, but having had many smog checks over the years, I can confidently say AutoChek is as "good as it gets." Today was my 3rd visit to this location, no problems any time. Here's why I like think this place deserves a 5: Ease of use - The place is well laid out. It's like a drive thru, clearly marked where to enter; one way through the 3 check bays, and straight out. Signs tell you to stay in your car until the technician writes your order. The technician starts filling out the paperwork, comes to your window, and asks for your DMV renewal. Service: These guys are here to do the job, take care of your business and get you on your way. My tech was fine, I don't know if anyone expects some energetic greeting at a smog check station as a sign of appreciation, but I believe that in many situations you get what your receive. They work in a place that people don't want to be, and think about the many a-holes you see on the road on a daily basis? So when he came up to my truck, right away i say, Hi, how you doing? - seemed to appreciate being acknowledged as a person. The most pleasant way to get a smog check: Cheap (they have a 20% discount for Yelp check-in) Easy - sit and wait, then when you pass, you can also pay your DMV registration and get the renewal sticker right there (for a nominal fee). Fast - I don't think that I was there longer than 20 min. They also give out free sodas in the waiting room. They are the cheap Shasta variety, but who cares? They're free. People who work here were friendly. I would strongly recommend that you call ahead to make sure that they can smog your car so you don't waste a trip out there. read more

Wow...very quick and pleasant experience. I read Bob T's review and headed over there. Great experience. Pull up, checked in on Yelp, got a check in discount of $10, clerk came to my window, i went inside for about 10 mins. Paid $48 and drove home. I didn't see any free sodas anywhere but who really cares when its not hot outside. Let me tell you that getting a V- 12 Jag to pass an emissions test is not easy. However, this is the second time these guys have done it without trying to gouge me for a bunch of repairs. They just lost a loyal customer since the 80s? Technician failed the vehicle on just the visual even though I have been coming here for almost 3 decades and passing. Apparently he was already judging the vehicle before even doing anything. He made a comment about my vehicle being he lowered. That modification is not relevant since all of the previous technicians have had no issues testing my vehicle. I do have more than one vehicle and I find no reason to return. If there was a law change in 2009 then why am I being told in 2018? I have receipts and documentation to show that I have complied with the Law. I find it hard to believe that I have slipped by 4 times in a row before I'm being told there was an issue. I no longer recommend this establishment since their credibility is questionable. I was at school (CSUF) and decided I should finally get it over with and I found this place about a mile away on yelp.
