I finally had to get a smog check for the first time ever....not because I always buy new cars or drive electric, but because I've had such bad luck with cars that they usually never make it to the DMV smog-check stage. My boyfriend has been bringing his 2003 truck to this shop for years and recommended I come here. I pulled up right after opening on a Saturday morning, and the whole process was incredibly quick and efficient. Even with about three cars ahead of me, I was in and out in less than 30 minutes. By the time I left, there were about six people lined up waiting, so clearly I'm not the only one who knows this place is worth it. The owner was super friendly. We ended up chatting about baseball because I was wearing my red Dodger hat....which people constantly mistake for an Angels hat even though it clearly says LA. I just like red on me! That conversation alone made the experience even better. They also have a small waiting area inside decorated with old-school Yorba Linda photos and pictures, which gives the shop a cool local, family-owned feel. It took around 35 minutes. The actual smog test took 10 minutes but there were maybe 3 people before me. It can get busy but the service is fast. I'd come back again. Love this place. I always go there to get my Toyota smogged. The gentleman who has always worked on my vehicle told me that my windshield wipers were extremely old and damaged and that the line on my window was not dirt, but a deep scratch. I do not notice these things myself. He walked with me for a few yards to NEELS auto and explained the issue. NEELS, the owner put new wipers on immediately and what a difference. Discrimination against older cars. I arrived at 8:30 AM on 10/06/2025. Parking lot was almost empty, (2 cars as I recall). I go into office and I'm told it would be an hour's wait. They finish the cars in the parking lot and then 3 other cars come in & they are serviced. I ask the office, "What's going on, I got here way before these other 3 cars that you just smog checked. They tell me that older cars take much longer to smog check and to keep their parking lot clear they will continue to do the newer cars first ignoring the order in which the cars came in. The tech, (probably owner), tells me to come back later. I come back at 0ne PM, same day. This time woman talks to me. "It's going to be at least an hour wait". I told her I was willing to pay more if my car took longer I just wanted to be treated equally to newer car owners. She says "We Don't do that", & would not schedule me in the order I drove up in. I asked, "Can I make an appointment? She says "We don't make appointments", and quite rudely too! She says, "I'm not changing my business because of you". She says come back Sunday, that's when we are the least busy. I'm 83 years old and not in great health, COPD and extreme abdominal pain due to "Scar tissue from a bad hernia operation" I can't sit for long periods. I tell her, "You put me behind 20 to 40 year olds with better health because my car is older? AT ANY RATE, THIS IS DISCRIMINATION AGAINST OLDER CARS & OLDER FOLKS!!! PS: I found another Test Only" 5 miles away and they made an appointment for me the following morning. read more
